Amazing food, service & ambiance!! This was a last minute Sunday Dutch Treat gathering and they were able to accommodate us-yes, we were gratefully in awe!! I was unfamiliar with the history of the location and of the restaurant itself, but decided to take a plunge & everything was perfect! The waitress was bubbly remembered our faces and was completely dedicated to making our first visit not our last! She was well knowledgeable in regard to the menu-aided in narrowing down those who could not choose between two plates and was just generally a friendly person whose smile put us at ease! We were working on a kind of stressful project and the atmosphere was just perfect. The semi-private meeting dining area could accommodate 20 or perhaps more, but we expected 14. The area was nicely decorated. They obliged by turning the music down and off we went!! The waitress was not flustered by single tabs and was very helpful. She and the servers & the chef and his staff were very efficient and made the process seem magical! We ordered 13 different items on the menu with 2 to-go orders and every one complimented their choice! The crab claws were to die for!! I requested extra Italian toast as I wanted to enjoy every buttery claw! Their salads were fresh-salmon cooked perfectly. Catfish was a delicacy as well! I look forward to returning to or visiting one of their other SouthOfBeal's(SOB) establishments. This is not their first rodeo and it shows-I am a fan of their other restaurants and now I am a fan of SOB!

My son's and I had a late lunch here. We walked from the Doubletree where we were staying for the night, so convenient, short, walk from this hotel. The waitress was attentive and helpful with recommendations. She brought a savory popcorn to the table but unfortunately, no one really cared for it.We shared two apps, the ahi tuna stack and the Philly cheesesteak egg rolls. Both were really good. The egg rolls were hot and had nice steak flavor. The chips with the tuna stack were crispy and paired beautifully with the tuna and mango salsa. 4*Our mains:Fried Grouper sandwich with fries, solid sandwich and the fries were average - 3*Wild mushroom pasta, my oldest son said it was good - 4*Salmon with Brussels , my youngest son said the salmon was not overcooked and was ok but the brussel sprouts were too crunchy, like a quick saute instead of braise, in his words, almost raw - not what he was expecting- 2.5*Overall, I would say 3.5 on the food. The apps outshined the mains.

I've been here multiple times during my visits in Memphis and gotta love the menu variations, drink specials, fantastic service and attention to allergens in food for the patrons. The ambience is very chic suitable for date nights or reserve the room for business dinners. Parking is easy and the menu changes often making you want to return often!

Great service! The food was good. Everyone in my party seemed to enjoy their individual meals. The general tso's cauliflower is a MUST!! The bowls were also a good option - I got the shawarma bowl and it was great. The gouda mac and cheese is also another favorite by the table! Would definitely come again.

Very Friendly staff especially Julie, our server. They have nice modern decor, turkey burger was fantastic. I normally get the SOB burger but the turkey burger is my new fav. If you want a great cocktail try the Lucid Dream, it's fantastic. The popcorn is fantastic snack til your food comes out also.

We had a wonderful time at SOB East. We returned again with our red envelope and cards to see if we won any great prizes. The ambiance is very classic and sophisticated. I enjoy the decor inside. The lighting is not too bright but just right for lunch. The parking lot has many spaces at lunch time. There were many patrons eating here.Service was great. We had Julie. She is always a very attentive server and nice. She helped us even with the challenging water boil alert. She is patient and has a commanding voice which is helpful with a large party. My food was tasty. The Filipino bbq skewer was small but flavorful. The noodles were cooked perfectly and the seasonings and sauce were on point. I did eat all of the egg roll. It was crunchy and very delicious. I didn't eat all of my meal. I plan to eat the rest for dinner. When I return, I don't think I will order this again. May try the burger or another sandwich. This place is consistently a great place to dine. I will return.

SOB (South of Beale) restaurant in Memphis is an establishment that I absolutely love every time I visit. The consistent quality of their food and the exceptional service make it a standout dining experience for me.During my early visits, I was delighted by their soul food bowl, which included a succulent fried chicken thigh, sweet potatoes or yams, and collard greens. Unfortunately, it seems they have removed this dish from their menu, perhaps due to concerns about its richness. Nonetheless, it was a truly delicious option that I miss.On another occasion, I indulged in their seafood soup, a delightful medley of mussels, shrimp, and fish. The flavors were incredible, and I thoroughly enjoyed every spoonful. SOB's ability to adapt and change their menu keeps things exciting and ensures that there is always something new and enticing to try.Currently, my favorite dish on their menu is the catfish succotash. The combination of perfectly cooked catfish and the flavors of the succotash is simply mouthwatering. I am eagerly planning my next visit to indulge in this delectable dish. One unique touch at SOB is that they serve popcorn on the table instead of bread. The popcorn has an interesting flavor that adds a fun twist to the dining experience. Make sure not to forget to ask for it while you wait for your appetizers and main course.SOB's bar is fully stocked and offers a fantastic selection of drinks. The bartenders are skilled and attentive, ensuring that you have a great experience with your beverage of choice. In addition to their downtown location on Main Street, SOB also has a branch in East Memphis. I believe their sister restaurant is a liquor store, although I haven't had the chance to visit it yet. I am excited to explore this option in the future and share a separate review. In conclusion, I highly recommend SOB restaurant in Memphis. The versatility of their menu, combined with their consistent service and delightful dishes, make it a must-visit establishment. Whether you choose the downtown or East Memphis location, you are in for a treat. Make sure to try the catfish succotash and enjoy the unique popcorn on the table.

This was my first time going to this location. I must say that they food and service is pretty consistent. I love the casual ambiance as well. They were also able to accommodate our large party. I had my regular order. The blackened fish with okra and corn succotash with andouille sausage, spicy crawfish cream sauce. We had a great experience. I am glad that I had a chance to visit. Now I will stop through if I'm in the area.

Service was great! Our server Julie was super attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. The fried chicken bao bun was delicious! That def set the tone. We got this as our appetizer. The chicken fried pork chop was MEH. Kinda of disappointing. The pork chop was super dry, lack flavor. As well as the Mac n cheese. Although I kinda like the collard greens. Probably will not get the next time. The collard greens were pretty interesting. It had kimchi fused in. The jerk short ribs were better, but also meh. It is tender, but wasn't my fav. The rice underneath seem too mushy. Again, prob won't get next time.Bread pudding was a tab bit too sweet for my liking. It was still kind of cold inside. My over experience was good, service wise. Food? Idk yet. I do want to come back next time to try other things on the menu.

I've been here 3 or 4 times, and the original location once, and have never been disappointed. This visits was a late lunch on the Saturday before Christmas (Dec 23) and there were only a couple of other tables seated. As you'd expect we were brought right in to a nice large booth with no wait at all after a friendly greeting from the hostess. They have recently started doing brunch at this location and I ordered off of the brunch menu, I got a Loco Moco - which is a Hawaiian fave. It was very good and had great texture with the crispy onions. Also ordered by us was a cheeseburger, chicken shawarma bowl, and catfish. I taxed everyone's plates and can say without a doubt, all were very good!! Once again I've never ever been disappointed with anything at all (service, food, ambiance, cleanliness...) of any of the SOB locations.
