Scruggs BBQ

Parking lot is a rough place--lots of missing chunks of asphalt. I don't think they are open at dark, so that's good--just be cautious.Inside it is a BBQ joint. The floors are clean, tables are clean, and the fixtures need a little attention/TLC.I walked in and it was a bit confusing. There was a kind lady (customer) who motioned me in mentioning that she had already placed her order. I waited in line to place my order...one to eat here and three to go. When I got to the register they asked me to have the seat at a table--they would be right with me for both orders. They were really slow, but held to their word...in 15 minutes after I walked in I had placed my order. My food was on the table less than 5 minutes after I ordered. The employees were hustling/-they weren't sitting around. They just need a few more good workers like the ones they have is all.The sweet tea is REAL. If you are from the north and want to try it, this is the genuine article. The Caramel Cake is AWESOME. You won't find better... if you do, please message me because I'd like to buy a slice of what you found. Their Sunday Menu is basic...I went against the norm and ordered Chicken and Dressing . Big portions--I couldn't eat it all. The green beans had a unique flavor...not my thing. It was interesting...just not my thing. The Yams were delicious/-near perfect. The Chicken and Dressing was good. I wish it had a little more chicken in it, but it was well done and not over the top with sage or celery like many.This review nearly end it has a three star. It was good--just expected more chicken from a BBQ joint for a $15 plate. Give me less sides and more chicken. I was impressed by two things as I started to leave--1. The friendliness of the staff and genuine caring about the quality of what they have presented. 2. The remarkable cleanliness of the restroom.Four stars for me.

I was passing through Decatur on my way home to lower Alabama for Thanksgiving. I had eaten at Big Bob Gibson's before so I wanted to try what else Decatur had to offer.I looked up BBQ on Yelp and found Scruggs. I was sold when the review said large portions and best brisket ever.Scruggs is west of Decatur and a pretty small place. But it does have a pig with a cowboy hat smilling on the wall and you know what that means? The bigger the smile on the pig, the better the BBQ.There are not many tables but it was busy left and right. I was confused if I had to order at the counter but I was told to sit if I was dining in.First thing, large sweet tea was refreshingly sweet. I've been living up North too long that I mis this kind of sweet tea.I ordered a combo plate and I asked my waitress which 2 Mears should I have. She said the brisket and ribs. The ribs were good but they had a hard outside with the meat inside to be more tender and tastier. The brisket was unique but really good. The best way I can describe it is it looked like brisket but tasted like a grilled steak. I don't know how they prepare it but it is worth another visit.I had potato salad, Mac and cheese, beans and cornbread as my sides. I didn't ask for the beans but the kitchen goofed. I'm sure glad they gave them to me because the beans was better than anything else. They were homemade and had a sweet Smokey taste. The potato salad was chunky and mustard base. Mac and cheese was solid. Cornbread was too dry for me.There are 2 sauces and both are exceptional. There is the sweet and tangy ketchup base and the tangy white sauce.The brisket, beans, sauces, and sweet tea were fantastic! The ribs and other sides were good but not my favorite. This is more like a 4.5.

Driving back to Atlanta, my brother and I were looking for a place to eat lunch in Decatur. I found Scruggs and what I read sounded great. We stopped and had some of the best food we both have ever have! I had pulled chicken and pulled pork with baked beans, green beans and cornbread. My brother had ribs, collards, pinto beans and cornbread. My brother loves collards and he said these were the best he's had.Great service and relaxing place to eat.We were both to full for dessert.We highly recommend Scruggs and we will definitely be back....Outstanding!!!

My fave place to visit when I'm home. I can't get anything that remotely tastes like this in The Ham so I buy extra to bring back. Great flavor meat, not coated in sauce, great sides and amazing service. The brisket baked potato takes me two meals to eat, it's just that good and HUGE! You won't be disappointed!

Stopped in for lunch with 4 other coworkers. Was quickly seated and waitress took our orders rapidly. Everyone commented on the amount of food. I had the ribs and hands down some of the best, fall off the bone ribs I've eaten in a long time! I will go back next time I'm in the area.

Absolutely amazing food and very friendly customer service! Large portions and you won't leave hungry, but Itis induced!

The food is delicious! Had lunch there today. Got the half-chicken plate. It was smoked nicely and fell apart. The greens were tender and good! The baked beans tasted good. The serving of a side of fried okra is huge! The okra were pretty good but didn't taste any pepper in the batter which I am used to..but I'd get these again for sure. I also recommend the cornbread. The white sauce is a tasty complement to the chicken. More sweet than vinegary and peppery. No desserts today though . This place also does pork butt fundraisers which are delicious...and awesome if they pull the meat for you like they did our fundraiser! Oh..and I saw potatoes walk by and they are HUGE!

I travel over 40mi. to get their brisket. It's delicious . Their smoked chicken tends to be dry sometimes and their usually out of their loaded potatoes since it's very popular. I don't eat pork so I can't comment on that.

My absolute favorite place to visit on Sunday! Food is fresh and delicious! My favorite is the fried chicken and the chicken and dressingWait and the turnip greens and the yamsSeriously everything is delicious!

It's OK. No, it is not "great". No, it is not the best. However, it is the MOST EXPENSIVE of any place we've found.First time, Ribs were severely undercooked. They had to replace both meals.Second time, we just got a half BBQ chicken and half rack of BBQ ribs.The chicken had hardly any BBQ flavor at all... and they provided NO sauce at all with them. Apparently, a half-rack of BBQ Ribs at this place is FOUR RIBS. FOUR RIBS for $20!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Uh, we will NEVER BE BACK.
