The review that said half the county might be there was spot on. The place was packed and we got the penultimate table. The service was average. After reading the reviews, I was nervous, but the servers were all decently attentive and one was even nice. The food was so mediocre, I didn't know how else to describe it. The fried green tomatoes were mostly breading and I ended up removing half of it just so I could taste the tomato. The fried squash was $3 for about 6 pieces of varying sizes. It was flavorless, as was the mac and cheese. It reminded me of what public school lunches served in my hometown. Even with salt and pepper it was bland. The side salad is $5 for a very small portion. The baked apples were the best thing we ordered. I'd order them again, but wouldn't go out of my way to return to this establishment.

Love the rooster in the front. OK service, OK food, and overall OK place to eat. 3 stars, fun with family and friends.

Waverly needs another Breakfast restaurant! The Rusty Rooster is disgusting and a health hazard. We ordered eggs with bacon and the bacon was bad. I couldn't eat it, the eggs were so greasy it was rolling down my plate. It has always been open seating but today the blond ponytail waitress working the cash register decided to publicly humilate us for walk to one of four dirty tables in the back that another waitress was already about finished cleaning. We overheard her till loudly to everyone in the restaurant that she hates rude customers who decided to not wait to be seated. It has always been open seating, there is not a sign asking customers to wait to be seating and she decided we should be reprimanded! We have struggled with the uncleanliness of this restaurant and had to not eat parts of our meal several times over the years because it was uneatable, yet we are forced to return to this horrible restaurant that hasn't really been cleaned in over 20 years (not joking, it is that bad). No wonder the food is so cheap!

As small-town diners go, the Rooster is a great stop. Rusty or springy, if you enjoy eating like a local, you're probably going to enjoy rubbing elbows with the Rooster. (If you're not, well, Nash Angeles is a piece further to the east. Just motor that way and someone else will enjoy eating your share.) On Saturdays (prolly other days, too), you might even rub a few knees together while sharing a table.It can be a lively visit. The coop is small, but half the county is liable to be there ahead of you.Breakfast and lunch options fit everyone from lighter to roll 'em out the door when they're done eaters. The biscuits are great. The gravy isn't as good as Granny's (whose is?), but it's enough to bury a biscuit. The hash browns... you may want to ask if they can make 'em crispy.My last table mates came just for the Patty Melt.Your mileage may vary, but it's worth waiting your turn.

Fun little restaurant in small town America! Can't beat the service and the food was delicious!

Driving through .. was ok good (fries are not homemade but the home fries are , weird & staff was ok, not too friendly and waitress was chopping ice or something (which drove me crazy) but she did that to everyone (not very professional).The place smelled really greasy.

Food is OK but they will not allow you in with a service animal.

The food is really good. But, the service really stinks. The servers do a good job but not the kitchen. My friend and I have been here a few times. Every time there has been a issue with having to wait for our food while watching people who say down after we did getting served before us. When we complain all we get are excuses for why this happens. Having worked in the food industry for 20 plus years I know that the proper way to prepare orders is to complete and serve orders in the order in which they come. It's obvious that the kitchen can't or doesn't want to do this or maybe doesn't know how. It also seemed like the people who they knew or their regulars got better service.It's really sad that a place that actually has good food actually has a poorly run kitchen...Not sure if I'll ever come back.

Best place to eat in the area. We come here every time we are passing through the area.
