I really dug this hotel a lot. I was able to park right at the entrance each time I arrived. That is a huge plus for me. Valets tend to look at me funny when they step into the equivalent of Cheech Marin's low rider when I valet my vehicles. JK.. maybeAnyway.... I struggled to find fault here, and so I feel 5 stars is deserving. My lovely bride said "it could use a little refresher". While I will agree with that, I found it charming in every way. Piano bar and all!The view of the river and the greenway puts it over the top for me. It's a stunning view at sunset. We had a king deluxe room and it was really spacious. Much more than most hotels I've been in. It's split into two different buildings. One has a bar called Tugs in it (that is the one we stayed in) and the other has Paulette's in it. Those are stories for another day. There are other restaurants just around the corner as well as Cordeila's Market, love that place. You also have cleaners, optometrist, health clinic, etc. Basically, everything you need is right here!So I guess if you have a little over $10k a month, you can just move in here!Seriously, I liked this stay quite a bit. Late check out too.... What??!!??

Was lucky enough to stay here on a quick overnight trip to Memphis. In a world of chain hotels, this one remains true to its independence. That being said, if you are looking for the latest modern amenities and luxuries, this might not be the place for you. The wiring is old, the bathrooms are small and you have to use an actual key. But if you appreciate history, southern charm, cozy romance and unique spaces, you will be pleased. We had a view of the Mississippi River from our room, which I just loved. The bed linens are pressed and crisp. The beds are very comfortable. They left a carafe of Madeira wine and truffles for us, which was a nice touch. We also dined at Paulette's for breakfast. It is located in the hotel. Amazing strawberry popovers! ;) While the condition of the rest of the city made me downright sad, the hotel stood out as a little jewel.

I was staying here for work and due to a communication issue my reservation was short by one day. I had to pay out of pocket for an extra night. I was charged a much higher rate than what was listed online. I spoke to the manager and she refused to price match. They also subscribed me to their spam list and I never signed up.

Decent hotel; rooms are very nice. Only one person can use the gym at a time so if someone took the key you are SOL. The whole town smells like dirty river mainly because it's on one. Restaurants are not good

July 2023: I wanted to like this hotel, but my overall impression was the hotel was past its prime. The decor is traditional, which is timeless. But, service levels, uncomfortable design and maintenance made it feel like a neglected cash cow being milked. Service was lackadaisical. Upon arrival we were greeted by a sign at the front desk advising someone would be back soon. It was only a 5 minute (or so) wait, but after a long day of travel, it was a cold welcome. What wasn't cold was the glass of champagne offered at check in. The bottle was in a cooler behind the desk, but I'm guessing there was no ice. The cooler and other clutter behind and around the desk gave the impression of a 2 or 3-star hotel. Maybe a Drury Inn. Regarding comfort, we reserved the least expensive option, a standard room (which was a very small box and looked nothing like the photo online). Setting aside the tightness of the space, it was substandard, comfort wise. My main gripe relates to seating. The only seating options were three straight-back chairs (think dining table chairs), leaving no place to rest comfortably except the bed. Maintenance wise, the hotel had a key card system at some point. The mechanics on the guestroom doors were still there. But we were given metal keys (not exactly the best security) at check in. To get the key, we had to sign a form stating we'd be obligated to pay $100, if we lost it. Another 3-star touch. Here's the thing... The hotel room door did not automatically close, which is another security issue, and to close the door securely, one must pull it closed, hold it, and latch the deadbolt. Otherwise, the door is pretty much open. Dining wise, Tug's Casual Grill served notably bland food. It was edible, but "meh" is the word I'd use. The Terrace Rooftop Lounge was dated, dark and felt like a country club lounge from the 1990s. Paulette's did serve a nice breakfast with good service in a nice environment. If only the rest of our stay matched. Bottom line, any hotel charging three hundred+ dollars nightly should not be past its prime.

I had some gift cards from River Inn given to my brother and I from the owners for some freelance work we did for them a few years back. We were told we could use the gift cards for the hotel or the 3 restaurants around there. Fast forward to me planning my birthday weekend this year and I figured it would be a good idea to use some of the gift cards to do a staycation and stay overnight at River Inn as the total amount between them would force us to eat at the restaurants a good 20+ times. I called to make the reservation and let them know that I had about 8-10 gift cards and would be using a couple of them for the room but could give my credit card for incidentals and was immediately told that they did not do gift cards, only paper certificates for the hotel portion, and the cards would only be good for the restaurants. I really hated to even bring this up but I did let them know that the cards were part of a payment for some freelance work and one of the owners told us the cards could be used for the hotel so was there any way to verify that with a manager. At that point I believe I was speaking to Amy, who throughout the entire process was pretty rude for someone who I believe is in a leadership role for an upscale boutique hotel. I was on hold for around 7 minutes and then the phone line hung up. I assumed the call just cut out and called them back and the phone picked up after ringing for about 30-45 seconds and then went straight back to hold without anyone saying anything. I was then on hold for about another 10 minutes and when the phone was finally picked up again I was told that while I was originally on hold some other people needed help and so they had to take care of them. Then I was told that the manager just left for the day a few minutes before (crazy coincidence...) and that they would let me know next steps on if I could use the cards for the room the next morning with a call from the manager. The next day around 11am I still hadn't heard anything so I called back and was told that the owner they needed to talk to hadn't come in yet but once they did they would call and let me know. About an hour later I received a call and was told that gift cards cannot be used for the hotel but they would let me use them (which why a place that is all about being a connected hotel with multiple restaurants would use different gift card / paper certificates for the different areas is beyond me and seems like a really poor oversight) so I was able to book the room. I will say the room was very nice, it had a nice view of the river and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom light did flicker and looked as though the ceiling light in the bathroom had been damaged with an opening sticking into the ceiling with something which did cause my fiancé to not feel comfortable taking a shower in there as she said it almost looked like a camera piece. The morning of checkout, I went to the front desk so they could let me know what was on the cards in case I needed to pay with other ones as the two I provided for them to keep at the front desk may not have covered the room (We previously used some portions of the cards for dinners so they no longer all had the same amounts on them) and as soon as I came up to the front desk and said my name was Eric and started to explain the situation, Amy came up from the back and said something along the lines of "Oh you have the gift cards from 2019..." which yes the reason we hadn't used them since around that time is because of the pandemic but I guess maybe she forgot about that happening. She then told me what the two cards I had provided had on them and it was not enough to cover the room so I told her I had other cards to pay with and she said she could go run the balance at Tug's, which is the bar and grill of theirs' next door, so I said ok and she ran and did that. She came back and then we cleared up the tab while she was just extremely rude and as we were walking out she didn't even want to wait to talk about how "ridiculous" we were. I am not sure why she works in hospitality when she was anything but hospitable. If we could have gotten the cards' credits transferred over to a paper certificate then by all means we would have, but that was not presented as an option. I really just wanted to try and have a nice staycation for my birthday using a payment I was given by the owners and it just felt like every step of the way Amy wanted to make me feel like I did something wrong. I tried to make sure I stayed nice and professional throughout every interaction with the hotel staff as well. I really wouldn't normally complain but this whole situation has just not sat well with me the last few weeks since it happened and knowing River Inn and the connected restaurants, I think its safe to say I expect better from them.

I don't even know where to begin.. our whole experience has been wonderful! We spent our wedding night here and were blown away by the treatment we received. Our room was upgraded because they knew it was our wedding night-- and let me tell you, our suite was amazing. I couldn't have asked for more. The room, the staff, the food.. literally everything. We will definitely be staying here again next time we are in town!

My review is based on my experience during the downtown storm. I can't express enough how the River Inn staff were extremely accommodating. I really enjoyed the swift check in and offering of a beverage. I'm big on food so it was a pleasant surprise to enjoy complimentary breakfast at Paulette's. Breakfast was so tasty it really put a smile on my face! I'd like to add that the hospitality at River Inn is nothing short of amazing!!

We stayed here as a special night for my husband's birthday. It is listed as the 83rd best hotel in the country. I beg to differ. While the room was clean, and the bed was okay, the room did NOT have a view of the Mississippi as promised. The hotel states every room has a view of the river. We had a view of 2 parking lots. The AC didn't work, and we are in the middle of a heat wave in muggy MEMPHIS. There was also black mold all in the AC vent. The water in the shower was way over the allowed limit and nearly scalded us. The service in the restaurant for breakfast was slow. Don't order the smoked salmon Benedict. You won't get smoked salmon. You'll get raw lox
