Rio Colorado was a bit of a disappointment when it came to the food. The service was great, but the food was just too Americanized and didn't taste like anything special, but that is probably because of the elderly predominantly white population here in Hohenwald? Maybe they prefer it that way. I did visit with a friend who loves this place. But out of the two Mexican restaurants in town, unfortunately my choice would be for The other one.

Really didn't experience much of the menu just stopped after our riding the bike with friends to get a snack, some A/C and something cold to drink. The nachos were good and the staff super nice.

Interesting place.Let me just say you are in Hohenwald, Tennessee... and this is a Mexican buffet restaurant... so set your expectations accordingly.Hubby and I visit this little town from time to time with several family members buried here. We used to be limited to Sonic or Hardee's if we were hungry during a visit, then then surprise that is Lewis & Clark's Restaurant opened and it's very nice.On a recent visit during an off time, Lewis & Clark's wasn't open other than the bar that offers exclusively bar stools... so we opted to try Rio Colorado that we had driven by many times. It's a typical Mexican joint when you walk in... not fancy, not plush, very basic. It's not the cleanest place ever, but not so offensive that we walked back out.We figured if we're venturing into this unknown, we'll go all in and opt for the buffet which is very much not our norm.We liked the fact that the chafing dishes had servings set up for you in smaller portions so you can sample many things. We didn't like the fact that nothing was labeled, and a lot of things appeared very similar.Again, our expectations knew that, so it was fine. The quesadilla bites were tried were surprisingly good to be sitting out, and they had fried corn bites that were a bit sweet that were again surprising. I ate about half of what I later learned was a bell pepper portion stuffed with beef, and had a chicken cheesy something on a tortilla base or two with I suppose some variation. There were chips and tortillas if you wanted to make your own fajitas or nachos, and a cold bar area with fruit and some add ons as well. The server was a bit slow getting to us initially, later learned that's because there was a line in the two stall ladies' restroom that was very primitive. Once she arrived, she brought warm chips and we each got our own salsa bowl... very nice.If the situation were right, we'd visit again, just make sure that like us you realize you are in a Mexican buffet restaurant in Hohenwald, TN. Should be enough said.

I was in hohenwald and wanted to try the Junkyard dog as it was recommended via word of mouth. Unfortunately for me, the junkyard dog was closed (closed Monday's and Tuesday's). So I walked across the street to this Mexican restaurant. You can't go wrong with Mexican, no matter how small a town right?Wrong. The food was ok but I was completely dissatisfied with the rice. It tasted like chemicals and was really awful. The enchilada was all cheese and the taco and beans were the best thing about the dish. For the price, I would say it's fine. But the food I was not too pleased. The staff person was nice.

We were staying at a campground and had family come in so we decided to cruise around Hohenwald to find a place to eat. We had heard this place was good from a fellow camper so we decided to give it a try. On first look, it looked like a typical little mexican place. Nicely laid out, booths and tables aren't super close together, mexican style decor.I noticed there were many signs posted about kids needing to be monitored, no roughhousing, if kids aren't closely watched they had the right to ask you to leave. This made me feel it wasn't a super family friendly restaurant. While I do think kids should be watched, they should also not be expected to sit still in a booth or a chair through dinner and this place didn't give me the feeling that they were very lenient on this. The waitress was nice, but she was new. My Mom asked her the specials and she just said she didn't know. She didn't go find out or ask anyone else. She was efficient, refilled drinks and was fast and very polite. The food was worth going. Authentic, tasty, affordable. Fresh beans and rice. I would go back again, but if I had to bring children to dinner, I would choose a different place. We also asked the workers what there was to do in town, the first lady didn't seem super happy to answer our questions.Overall, it's great food.

Menu not reflective of what was delivered. I eat lunch at the Rio Colorado this afternoon and ordered a shrimp fajita (you know a sizzling skillet with shrimp peppers, onions and condiments on the side with tacos). What was delivered was shrimp, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots onions as the main dish. This is not reflected on the menu. Only the California fajita has these vegetables. I do not care for broccoli or cauliflower and I was totally shocked my what was delivered. When I asked the waitress what was going on; she stated ... "that is the way the kitchen makes it"!I decided this was not her fault and said that i would take this order home to my wife and then ordered a chicken fajita. When I paid my bill at the front counter I was told by the lady that they always make the shrimp fajita that way regardless what the menu states. No one offered to discount my bill and no one offered an apology for the error on the menu.I guess this will be the last time I will eat there. I understand that the Mexican restaurant near Walmart is much better.

Turn away. I mean it. Say you wake up one day and you want to try your first attempt at cooking mexican food and everything that could go wrong does. This is what their food tasted like. The chicken tasted and looked like it came from the can. The salsa was good but only because it tasted like straight up pace picante....can neither confirm or deny this. I will say the service was pleasant and our waitress was friendly. Thankfully we were not charged for our food, but luckily able to be charged for the chips and salsa.

Damn good Mexican carne asada is on point. Avocado with the tacos is a good street taco even the tortillas tasted good. Definitely coming here regularly!

I've had better at Taco Bell. The only thing Mexican about this pace is the guy behind the counter at checkout.
