Stopped by to try their pupusas. It's about the only game in town apart from 1-2 other options for a sit down restaurant with Salvadoran food, so I appreciate their presence. Their chicharrón con queso and loroco pupusas were spot on. The curtido and salsas were done right, a must when enjoying the perfect pupusa plate. Service was good. The restaurant is very family-like, so don't expect the latest trendy notes inside. Also the Salvadoran horchata was tasty, and the agua de jamaica was on par with most other places. I'll be back.

Located just off Summer Avenue in a strip mall that has definitely seen better days, Papuseria Anita is a hidden gem located on the east side of Memphis.I am infatuated with the Salvadoran culinary delight known as the papusa. Pillowy pockets of meat and cheese hidden in what can best be described as a pancake like package, this is a food that someone should be passionate about.I ordered two papusas, an asada taco and a chorizo taco (total was $9.50). The food arrived rather quickly and I waited in a storefront that they converted into a dining room of sorts. Oh, I think it bears mentioning that the food truck is in a converted Winnebago (it just adds to the "cool" factor).I have had better papusas, but these were solid. They should be proud of their papusas. I am just a papusa snob. The tacos, particularly the chorizo one, were very good. All in all a very good dining experience.

This is a very traditional Salvadoran location. It is a very humble restaurant and the people are very kind and the food is amazing. We consistently order pupusa's from here and the parking lot is packed out every time we come in. We have been able to introduce our friends to the tradition of Salvadoran culture through this restaurant, and everybody has loved it, and we just keep coming back for more.I highly recommend this restaurant, but they only take cash so do not come with a credit card and they don't speak very great English but that's OK because you're coming there for their food . But you definitely need to order the pupusa's and the Horchata..

As an El Salvador-born person, the pupusas were not good. They were basically just flour with just a hint of cheese. There are better places to get much better pupusas in Memphis. I have no idea how this restaurant has "Best pupusas in the city" reviews or "awards" when you look them up on Google. The service was awful. The lady who took our order has a bad attitude. They also did not inform me that they only accepted cash. I think that's important to mention in this day and age when everything can be paid wirelessly through Apple Pay or even with a debit or credit card. I informed them that I was not told this over the phone and received no apology. I had to go to an ATM nearby for cash. The ONLY reason I returned for the food was because half of it was for my coworker.

My wife and I ate lunch here yesterday. The food was fine. The pupusas seemed a little greasier than others I've had, but the flavor was good. My only objection was that we both felt like they were giving us the cold shoulder. They seemed annoyed with questions. When we paid, there was no "thank you for coming" or "please come back". I eat along Summer Ave quite often and enjoy the opportunity to meet people and try different cuisines. Anita's made us feel like outsiders.
