This was a great place! I wish I had taken some pictures of my food. It was delicious. I don't eat steak but my husband's steak (the two bites I had) were delicious! The bar wasn't bug but the food on it was perfectly seasoned and good! I was cold in there though so take a sweater if you run cold. If you get a chance give them a call and order you some food. Oh we ordered my son a burger and he said it was really good. They put the toppings on the side nothing was soggy when we got home!!

This place looks like a shed. You literally have to walk through the kitchen to get to the seating area. You get stared at like a stranger.... but the food! Oh my goodness. I ordered the ribeye, medium rare (of course), and my wife ordered the chicken (half a chicken). My ribeye was almost perfect. It was cooked a little shy of medium rare, but it was tender, juicy, and delicious. One of the best steaks I've ever devoured in a carnivorous fury. My wife enjoyed her chicken, but she only eats the white meat which makes a half a chicken a little overkill (but lunch for me tomorrow!!). They were a little short on sides. Pretty basic selection: corn, salad, potato, etc...Overall, if you're up for a little redneck rendezvous in a shed in the country then drop by Mel's. You will not regret it! Fantastic food! Oh, and the service is great too. They're always asking if you need anything. Great place to visit!

This was an experience. The other reviews were correct - you walk through the kitchen and it's like in the back of a shed. The salad bar was shredded lettuce - good 1000 Island. The buffet was good, enjoyed the rice - my son had 2 plates. Good vegetables and beans. Wasn't too crazy about the rib eye. Ours had lots of fat and wasn't my favorites. Wasn't bad just not great. It was set up weird and my chair kept getting bumped as people would go by for the buffet. My son got the shrimp and loved it. The rib eye was huge so we did have the option of an extra plate which worked well since we were traveling. Service was ok, not great. They weren't terribly busy and just got a vibe from the server we frustrated her when we weren't sure what to order. We'd never visited and took us a second to figure out what we wanted. Had to go ask for the check. It was ok.

Very good steak. We both ordered the kids steak, or junior steak they may call it, and that was enough. Had been there before and did the larger steak that is fine if you are a big meat eater. The larger steak may have been a little more flavorful but both are delicious. It is a different environment but I prefer local places that have good food over chains anytime. Go if you get close.

You cannot get a better steak for the money. A little over $20 will get you a massive steak, a baked potato, rice, corn, salad, and a piece of toast. One of our favorite places to eat as out of town duck hunters.

From the moment you walk in, you're face to face with the kitchen. You walk directly through the kitchen. It is highly unsanitary to have god-knows how many people walking where the food is prepared. After you pass through the kitchen, you get to the "dining room" which appears to just be a renovated garage. It even still has the garage door on it. In the dining room is a few booths and several long tables shoved together in such a way that you're practically sitting in your neighbor's lap. There isn't much as far as decor. It looks as though a high school gym was transformed into a restaurant with a budget of approximately $10. It doesn't even have a proper ceiling. You can see all of the ventilation. You wait for a menu to be brought to you and it never arrives, because there isn't one. The menu is plastered on the napkin dispensers, and if you're too far away to read it, well I guess you're simply out of luck. You don't get a proper waitress. All of your drinks are done buffet style, as are the sides. If you want a baked potato you have to assemble it yourself on the salad bar. While that would be fine for a low class restaurant, I expect much more when the steaks cost $16 each. Next you wait approximately an hour for your steak to arrive. It's brought out cold, completely flavorless, not the way you cooked it, and wrapped in tin foil like a gas station hot dog. They leave bottles of steak sauce on the tables for a reason, it's the only way to choke down your $16 steak and convince yourself it's acceptable. All around the environment, the dining style, and the food were beyond terrible. I've had a better steak at Olive Garden and their head chef is the microwave.

This probably the best rib eye steak I have ever had!! The salad buffet is pretty average but good. The home made cookies were excellent. If order a steak get Mel's steak. This is an old family steak house where the father cut beef and then started cooking for guests. This is hidden gem that everyone in the area should try.

This was a pretty darn good meal in a small town. I was in town duck hunting and a friend took us for steak, chicken, and ribs. The choice of entree is small. The sides are set and the salad bard was small, cheap, but good. Overall, the food was great but very casual.
