McEwen's Oxford

Considering the location of McEwen's, I was expecting more. When I can throw a stone and hit ten 4 or 5 star restaurants, I wouldn't come back here. Our server was lovely but clearly overmatched and it took 25 minutes for our appetizer of a tomato salad to arrive. Not a big deal but we hadn't even ordered yet, 35 minutes in while surrounded by empty tables. I ordered the filet which was good but I can only image that the 5 pieces of a potato and the once green beans were placed under the steak as a decoration and not to be eaten.

Their Old Fashioned is made with liquid bitters and simple syrup. This has been consistent in all of the restaurants I've visited in Oxford though, so it was to be expected, but still disappointing. It was also served with regular ice cubes, which I was also pretty disappointed in.My waiter, after going to check with the bartender on some of my questions, said he liked the Smokehouse Sunset. I said I would take it. It was pretty dang good! There's a lot going on in that cocktail and is pretty sweet, but I understand a lot of people like that. The biscuits served after being seated are wonderfully aromatic. They are light and fluffy on the inside with a wonderful, buttery crispiness on the outside. I'm not ashamed to say I ate two of them before my meal! The hostess was very polite. My waiter was as well. I appreciated his swiftness as he was attentive and checked in on me periodically without hovering. The cedar plank salmon was light, flaky, and buttery - BEAUTIFULLY cooked. I was a little disappointed by the lack of flavor. The green beans were cooked perfectly as well, but were also were lacking in flavor. The cheesecake of the day was cappuccino. Again, lacking in depth of flavor, but it was pretty tasty! I guess what I'm trying to say is, this place is geared towards certain clientele. Their food is cooked well, but has very little flavor. There is a decent range of wines, the ambience is rustic chique (maybe?? depending on where you sit), and the lighting doesn't make you feel like you're eating in a cave. The staff is great. Honestly, the staff may be the best part of this place second only to the biscuits. No, I'm kidding. They're better than the biscuits... which I ended up eating THREE OF.

We sat at bar to celebrate our 51st anniversary. The service was very good, We enjoyed the chicken with Alabama white BBQ sauce.

For a party of 12, we had amazing service. I wish I could remember the name of our waitress, because she was awesome! The servings were a little smaller than I expected, but everything tasted good. The scallops were really good, and I would definitely order again!

Service was great, food was pretty average. Salmon was a little too glazed/greasy. Out of other options on the square, it's not my first choice but is a decent meal.

Nice restaurant, Great food, Good Service. The biscuits are amazing!!Got the Seabass delicious sauce was a little loose but tasty, $44, Filet cook to perfection, $45Beef Braciole-stewed meat in tomato sauce and pasta dish $28 Good but interesting, 2 duck gumbos yummy $6,Crab Cakes very meaty with lemon drizzle delicious $36 and wine. Great Value, Great Quality, Great service. Our server was exceptional there from AZ going to Ole Miss. Really enjoyed our dining. Definitely a hot spot.

Excellent food and service. Our waiter was knowledgeable, professional and friendly. He knew the menu well. Several of us had the salmon, which was perfectly cooked. I had the crab cake dinner portion (2 cakes), which was small but good with an interesting mix of tomatoes, okra and other vegetables around the crab cakes. Banana cream pie for dessert- several layers of smooth, creamy filling. We were in the restaurant on a night when the students were still on winter break so it was quiet and we had a nice, oval table at the front overlooking the Square. Reservations are suggested.

walker was amazing! such great service and food!! i ordered the arancini for an appetizer (a recommendation by our server) and it was so delicious!! for my entree i got the roasted chicken and it was to die for!! highly recommend this place the service was amazing!

Atmosphere was cozy yet somewhat upscale. I got fish and it was fantastic. Great drink and food menu. Service was excellent.

There's a reason why after the football game there was no wait to get into this place and all the surrounding places had minimum 30 minute wait. We ordered the Pork Belly Carbonara it should've been called the Sun Dried Tomato Carbonara instead. There were seriously two pieces of pork belly one was the size of the Lego circled in the picture and the other piece was a thin slice. I told the waitress she told the manager and they said they would bring me some more in which they did but it arrived after we we're completely finished with our meal. We also had the drunken chicken which was very juicy to the point of being mush. Our waitress offered a free dessert which we politely declined I'm confident our cookie from Insomnia cookie was much better than any dessert we could have gotten here. The manager never came to the table.Don't do it there are a multitude of other places to go in the square don't waste your time eating hereOur server was very nice
