Good old fashioned soul food home style cooking. Fried cornbread is excellent. Hamburgers and fries are also good.

Food and Service always good! Every time I'm in the Oxford area I try and go. It's like a real home cooked meal.

I truly love Mama Joe's! On one trip to Oxford they were closed for vacation and it ruined my whole trip. I once triple parked there just to get my fried chicken and caramel cake!

This a restaurant dedicated to true southern style soul food. It is served cafeteria style and the items they serve change day to day although fried chicken (a wonderful choice) is served daily. The food is all made ahead from scratch and you can typically call ahead to see what they are that serving that day. Sides are all top notch. The desserts are all really good and normally consist of pecan pie or key lime pie and sometimes banana pudding. The staff is extremely friendly and Mama Jo is normally behind the counter making sure everyone is pleased. She used to work in a fraternity house kitchen but has since opened this restaurant and had it open for many years now.Tip: call ahead for a burger cooked to order and don't miss out on the cornbread dressing if she has it!

This is a great hole-in-the-wall restaurant for southern home cooking. The dishes are consistent and change everyday.

Mama Jo has very good food. My favorite was the blackberry cobbler. Just like my grandma used to make.

Wow. I came across this place while searching for a place to eat in Oxford, and what a hidden gem it is. The outside is very unassuming, so much so that I was driving in circles until someone pointed me to a white building with a tiny sign that read "Mama Joe's". I was greeted by friendly faces, and I ordered the fried chicken and it came with cornbread (I chose fried) and I chose sides of mashed potatoes and peach cobbler. The taste of everything on my plate just exploded in my mouth, the chicken, the fried cornbread, the mashed potatoes with gravy, and the peach cobbler were out of this world. Just incredible. I don't understand why it doesn't have more reviews, but don't pass up any opportunity you have to eat here, it was a delicious and memorable meal.

I would give this place 10 stars if I could. Fine soul food prepared by fine folks. Do yourself a favor and visit Mama Jo's. And ask if they have friend cracklin cornbread! It is the best. I could eat there everyday!
