We were there last at the end of October and it was cool to see a reminder of the upcoming ancestor remembrance...

Yelp Review Los AztecasDate night...oh yeah! We drove to Selmer to try another Mexican restaurant and this time, they came with the flavors. We ordered chimichanga (chicken) and fiesta fajitas (chicken, steak, shrimp) both served with rice and beans. The horchata was made in house. I would have liked it to be a bit thicker and bolder, but the flavor was mild, however; if I had a hot (picoso) spicy meal it would have helped. The chimichanga had the appearance of crunchy, but it was crispy and soft under the glaze of the cheese sauce. The guacamole was fresh and tasted in house. An offered drink special was tempting, so we had passion fruit and strawberry, frozen margaritas. Good thing the Olympics was on the phone screen, because you will need to set aside time to partake of that top shelf resembling beverage. The flavors were bold and neat and pairs well with this meal. For dessert we ordered the not as popular xango which was a fried cheesecake in flaky pie crust served with ice cream and whipped cream and topped with a cherry. We were told about the chocolate chimichanga, a restaurant favorite, but we shall try it another time. This meal took us back to the first Spanish rice and in comparison to the most recent fajitas we had locally....delicious! We will be returning to try more menu items. Just as all the reviews state, the service was friendly and it is refreshing to experience it in person. Initially, we thought it would be good to be in the live music area, but we decided the music could be enjoyed in the adjacent area as well. Lacking a view we found the decibels more favorable for digestion. All in all this was a good visit and we enjoyed ourselves. We were graced with the chance to have candid conversation with the manager/owner and had few laughs. We will return.

I've been working near Selmer and staying in town for a week, checking out the few restaurants available. This is my preferred Mexican restaurant in town. Many of the typical dishes, but some creativity is going on, too. Also, the salsa is tastier, the chips are superior, and the refried beans are great. (One of my favorite comfort foods, so the quality of the refried beans really sways me.) The staff also seems a little nicer, but maybe that's the refried beans talking.Full bar is a nice thing to find in Tennessee, too.
