Liquor and Wine Depot

This is my go-to place for hard to find, allocated Bourbon. Nice staff and good mid shelf/ high end selection of bourbons

Me (total wine idiot): "Ummm is it possible to get a 'nice' bottle of merlot for $30?"Guy working: "Hell yeah. You can get an outstanding bottle of merlot for $30!"And then he hands me a bottle and I go home to one happy surprise. Truth be told, I would have never even noticed this place if my boyfriend and I weren't on a diet and staring down the donut store next door to it. We were craving either sweets or alcohol and decided that red wine was the "healthier" cheat. So in we went. It is a cute little shop, pretty small, and very cramped, but the staff impressed me 100%. They know their stuff and I love that he didn't make me feel stupid when I admitted to not knowing a thing about wine. Instead, he just said here you go and enjoy.

Wine sales in grocery stores became legal in TN last year but because Liquor and Wine Depot is my go-to place for anything alcohol I have yet to buy one bottle of wine in a grocery store. I was concerned at first that wine prices at Kroger would beat their prices but I found out quickly that Liquor and Wine Depot's prices were 25-30% LESS than Kroger and the best prices of liquor store in Memphis. Combine that with great selection and outstanding service you can't beat Liquor and Wine Depot! Oh yeah- did I mention they that right next door to Gibson's Donuts the BEST donuts in Memphis and across the street from Gus' World Famous Fried Chicken? YUM!

It's not much to look at from the outside, but I'd been eyeing the place every time we stopped at Gibson's. Once I heard about the growler filling station, I knew it was for me. We brought our HCB growler from home and headed in on a Saturday night. It was pretty quiet considering the day, which left us with time for some beer tasting and recommendations from the staff. We ended up with a great local brew at an even greater price; cheaper thsn a fill up at most other places in town. I can't say much for the other booze, but it looked like they had a pretty good selection.

Great place. As others have stated this is a diamond in the rough. It looks a little rough on outside but all associates are very helpful and good selection of craft beers for great prices.

If the other liquor and wine stores in Memphis demonstrated 1/10 of the customer service and commitment to "fair and reasonable" pricing that the Liquor and Wine Depot does, day after day . . . guess what? There would not have been a recent referendum in Memphis/Shelby County to sell wine in "big box" and grocery stores. These people are unbelievable! Greg who is the owner (or, his employees) will find what you want on his shelves or those of his Germantown store and bring it to his Mendenhall place of business and if he doesn't have it at his other store . . . he'll order it for you and charge you a fair and reasonable price for it. In fact, they advertise sale prices on their inventory that are actually sale prices!!!!! I live in downtown Memphis, but my shadow will no longer grace the front door of Joe's Wine or Buster's (despite both being well run businesses) . . . I'll make the drive (regardless of how much I hate driving east on Poplar) to do business with these people, and leave their place of business with my favorite bottle of wine, a few extra dollars in my wallet, and feeling like a valued customer. There is absolutely no reason to go elsewhere and that's the God honest truth.

I just went in there and had a comment, "IWonder why liquor stores have completely different prices?"And the female laughs at me, not with me, at me, never go in there again, f-h

Convenient and decent prices. However I've run out of patience with the staff of bratty college kids with attitudes that don't care one bit about customer service. It's pathetic how they can't get off their phones or quit gossiping for ten seconds to even acknowledge a customer, and when they do it's totally apathy and punk attitude. Clearly the owners or managers don't care about it either. I'll pay a dollar or two and drive elsewhere.

Do not shop here. They were so much better under previous ownership. The manager is just an obnoxious guy. Thankfully took all of my business to other stores in the area and look forward to coming to this store's going out of business. Not the place where I want to spend any money

Points for having what I discovered was a difficult bottle of bourbon to find. This was my 7th liquor store to try and surprisingly, I found what I needed here. Had I not been desperate and tried 6 places before it, I wouldn't have even thought to stop in.Having said that, it took me a while to find what I was looking for, it was on a higher shelf, and I was one of 5 people in the store with 3 employees working. I was never asked if I needed help, never asked if I found everything I needed when I approached the register, and never thanked for my purchase. Manners go a long way with me, so for now, I will stick to my old standbys that treat customers well, but keep this place in mind if I need something obscure and can't find it elsewhere.
