I've been eating here for over 20 years. Obviously the food is great. Ate here again today and it dawned on me that I've never posted a review. This is authentic Mexico City type Mexican food. The food is delicious ... it's not inexpensive, fairly pricey for what it is but great quality , great ingredients. The Germantown location is run by Jonathan, Pepe's son. Jonathan and the team are outstanding, and Jonathan is almost always here at the Germantown location taking orders and interacting with customers who he often knows by name.Try some of these things below and you won't be disappointed :/milanesa steak tacos /Elote street corn / king crab torta sandwich is outstanding but about $35... you gotta try it / the juice drinks are utterly amazing. Try the cantaloupe drink (6.95) , again simply amazing This place was just featured on Diners , Drive Ins and Dives and it led me to go there once again and post a review with pics .... It's a small place , you order up front and then wait for your number to be called and then you pick up at the counter. Give this a try

This place is not too far from me so I pop in from time to time for the Chicken Tortilla Soup. I don't care if it's 100 degrees outside this soup hits every time!! The man that works here is always friendly and makes suggestions I think he maybe the owner. This visit I tried something new. I got the steak tacos and that green sauce had a little kick to it. I love that use a slice of avocado instead of chopped up pieces. Very good place for lunch!

Absolutely amazing authentic Mexican food. Texas is my home and this please is right up with the best joints in south Texas and across the border. Will be back over and over again when in Memphis! Ordered the De Oreja de Elefante tacos. With the chile torreado peppers and pickled jalapeños----- amazing combination. Definitely recommend. The founders son greeted us and explained everything in detail. Very helpful.

We don't live in the Memphis area anymore but when we did, this was one of our favorite spots! And it was just as good this time as it always was!The service is always welcoming, the food served hot and delish, and the ambiance comfortable as always! We had two different taco orders and their corn. Oh, the corn! Served fresh and hot and full of flavor! We also had complimentary chips and homemade guacamole! Amazing!

Food was delicious. Authentic food with a personal touch. Tortilla soup had perfect spice and crunchy tortilla pieces perfect. A little pricier than I would have thought. Elote was tasty too!

I've been to a lot of Mexican restaurants; but never a Mexican deli. Las Tortugas Deli Mexicana is in a strip mall in Germantown, a suburb of Memphis where my brother and sister-in-law live. This is run by a guy named Pepe, who's met celebrities like football legend Walter Payton and the greatest boxer in history, Muhammad Ali, among others, and was featured recently on the hit Food Network program, "Diners, Drive Ins and Dives." She told me his story; but I don't remember it to save my life. But, anyway...We all had chips with guacamole dip, which is different from all of the Mexican restaurants, who usually serve chips with salsa. Really good, though, to be honest, I was hoping they would have salsa as I'm having a bout with a cough that seemingly won't go away. I had the chicken tacos, which were phenomenal; I also had the fish tacos, which were good (my SIL recommended them), but not as good as the chicken tacos. And I washed it down with Coca Cola made with real sugar cane in Mexico, which was a real treat. The only real downer was the watermelon drink that I had, which was a little bitter for my blood.5 out of 5 for service, 5 out of 5 for atmosphere, 4 out of 5 for food. Overall, 4 out of 5. Oh, and don't look for a sign that says "Las Tortugas " It's a simple block sign that says "Deli Mexicana." And it's in a strip mall.
