I love this place! Quality ice cream with A LOT of flavor. Although their Ferrero Rocher ice cream is not my favorite, they knock it out of the park with the Butter Pecan. The Butter Pecan is a 10/10. Service is solid with plenty of seating inside. At this point, I'm a pro ice cream consumer with how much I visit this place!

So clearly, this experience totally depends on who is behind the counter. Here's how today went: I stopped in for a Chamoyada. The place was nearly empty. There were 4 girls & one guy standing around behind the counter. So the girls choose to send the guy, who speaks no English, to take my order. He presented me with a cup of frozen mango with chamoy. When I asked about the mango and tamarind straw were, one of the girls offhandedly said, "you have to ask for it", to which I replied, "I'm asking ". And that was the end of the encounter. The Chamoyada itself is tasty, but the customer service SUCKS! I will not return.

Anyone that knows me, knows that I love Mexican ice cream. This place is located in a slightly sketchy strip mall. They have a ton of parking available in the lot that it shares with the other business in the mall. The workers here spoke English, were friendly and easy to understand, which made no difference to me, because even when I go to a joint where they do not speak English, I am still able to get what I want. They have a few booths out front on the sidewalk that you can sit on and eat. They also have a huge dining area with tables. I will be honest and say that the selection was not as big as I was use to, but there is a lot of hand-scooped flavors to choose from. But I was there for the speciality creations. I opted to go with the Chamoyadas, which was similar to a Mangolata. I must admit, I was not a fan of the treat. I wish I had gotten something else. This place's ice cream is homemade and they have homemade popsicles as well. You will also find elote ands nachos here too. I like this place and hope to make it back here and try something else.

The cream of the crop. The crème de la crème of local ice creameries. Off the beaten path, along Memphis' newly established "International District," is La Michoacana. This authentic Mexican ice cream shop is more than a family-owned business. It's a community hub where families come together to create memories. Like a Broadway theatre, the shop has ropes for long lines during hot Memphis summers. You can choose anything, from sugar cone scoops to milkshakes to fresh fruit or popsicles. But don't sleep on the food at La Michoacana. They also sell tacos, quesadillas, nachos, burgers, hot dogs and more. They even have a wall of snacks, from Doritos to Hot Cheetos to chicharrones chips. I've tried the pine nuts, strawberry & cream and pistachio ice creams. Pine nuts is perfect for me. I don't like overly sugary ice cream, but you definitely know you're in dessert mode. You can taste the real ingredients in the ice cream, as the rich, almost buttery goodness glides down your throat to a very happy tummy. They also have natural flavors like Guava, two different Mangos and Cucumber Chile. There's too much to explore at La Michoacana in just one visit. You have to go a minimum of three times before you see everything that's happening. I just read that London neuroscientists found that ice cream activates our orbitofrontal cortex, the "processing" area at the front of our brain. That translates to ice cream literally making us happy. Now go to Summer Avenue and eat some of the city's best ice cream.

I've tried all of their offerings and non just blow me away. But I love what they do; and as often as I patron this place with my sister or on her behalf I must give it five stars. They have an extensive array of homemade ice-cream flavors that can be scooped out and topped however you like. The flavors are typical, Interesting, appealing, and what I consider a little strange.Their Key lime is tasty .... They have a margarita flavored that tastes more like a sorbet .... Ive had a taste of most of them .... All are good. There is a tasty pecan caramel combo my dad loves. One of the ones I consider as strange ... Cheese and pineapple. My sister says it's 'yummy' .... I say ... 'it's strange'. The one thing they do have there that I do give them extra props for is, to the right of the cash register there is a freezer full of homemade pops of the ice cream and just fruit nature. You can get a huge sack full of them to take home for about twelve bucks ... Which would last a normal person a couple of weeks .... But when it comes to their Coconut ice-cream pop my sister is not a normal person. It's a downright obsession. When we used to live nearby and visit often, the guy behind the counter would feels sorry for her and throw in a few extra coconut ones just for her because I insist a few strawberry or kiwi ones get into our ten pops! She would usually say 'umm ya another coconut' and the guy would say, 'what's the next flavor' and she would say, 'ummm another coconut' ... All the while she's would be eating a styrofoam cup full of ... Yes you guessed it - coconut ice cream.if you can get your pops to last longer than a few days (a rarity iin our house) I recommend you put like flavors in a freezer ziplock bag ... Keeps longer.I also do this to hide my two or three fruit pops from a certain ice-cream fiend that used to live with me (aka my sister). I've found that under the freezer bag of broccoli is an ideal hiding place .... Perhaps you can try that place yourself. The folks at La Michoacana are so super nice. They let you try any that you like in the display case .... In fact I think they would be offended if you didn't.Everyone working the counter is helpful and recommends favorites - this is good because they change out flavors sometimes. There is apparently food served here other than cool treats ... Can't speak to any of that as we have never tried anything other than the ice-cream and fruit bars there. If you haven't discovered this little gem on Summer, I recommend you do so... Post-haste!It's definitely a needed smile on any day but especially a cool relief in this southern heat!

The Paletas (ice pops) here are really tasty! Ones I've tried: Cookies&Cream (creamy, yummy, with full cookies in it), Grape (like a flinstones push pop... yum and nostalgic!), strawberries and cream (OK). However, there's no phone number listed that works anywhere (yelp, google, Instagram, etc.), they don't respond to Instagram messages, so they're essentially unreachable. They also don't offer itemized receipts. Good for a quick drop in and can pick up lots of pops with short notice.

Service was quick, food was very good, and it was cheap! I was sad they didn't have Mangonadas, but the icecream was so creamy.

I was so excited to finally try La Michoacana after years of hearing so many rave reviews. I can now say it was worth the hype!I was overwhelmed by the number of options -- a multitude of flavors in a number of forms -- scoops of ice cream, paletas, shakes and more. And I had no idea they had food options as well. The fresh fruit items in particular looked amazing. After much deliberation, I ordered a medium (two large scoops) ice cream with one scoop of the "egg nog with chocolate" flavor and a scoop of butter pecan. Both were delicious. The egg nog flavor wasn't too strong. And the small bites of chocolate made for an interest combination. The butter pecan was packed with chopped pecans and a sweet, buttery flavor. My one complaint was that the ice cream seemed as though it had partially melted before freezing again -- it was filled with ice crystals. But most of it was still creamy.I will certainly be back soon to try more flavors and some of the other menu items.
