Walking on Beale Street, the gumbo on the menu caught our eyes. So we went for it. It was maybe earlier than ushe for dinner so there were not many people. We ordered a the shrimp po boy and gumbo. Both were very good. The gumbo was a little salty for me but da hubs liked it fine and with the crackers. As we were finishing up, the band was setting up. I went over to check them out, and they were great. Live music is the best! This is what I was looking for. Good eats & live music. Even though it was post New Year's Eve celebrations, I was happy I got to experience some live music on Beale street!

You're absolutely paying for location when choosing this Beale street restaurant for dinner. Service was slow to arrive and lagging in follow up. The food was terrible--greasy, not fresh and hubby's catfish was so undercooked he didn't eat it. We would have asked for it to be corrected--alas, we couldn't seem to find our waitress. We did enjoy the live music and people watching; but it didn't compensate for the hefty price tag given all the disappointment.

The service was great - our waitress was really funny. The pulled pork was good and they have a good selection of drinks. We went for dinner on a Friday before a Grizzlies game and it wasn't busy, but we were also there at an earlier time, so it might be packed later on.

We went here for a couple drinks before heading out to a concert at the FedExForum. It was a Saturday night and very busy, but there was somehow only one bartender/server for the entire place which made service quite slow. After reading the story of the gumbo, we decided we had to try it. I was incredibly disappointed and honestly wasn't able to eat it because of how fishy it was, my husband thought it tasted very strongly of crawfish, but was able to at least eat it. Thank goodness because it was $20/bowl, which is really steep in my opinion. The drinks on the other hand were dirt cheap though!

The gumbo is truly the best. The trophies and awards don't lie. Great bread as well. Even if you just stop in for a bite, get the gumbo!

Out of all the Beale Street restaurants, I heard over and over that King's Palace Cafe was the place to go for gumbo. I don't know enough to say if it's the "best" gumbo, but it's pretty incredible! A big bowl cost about $20 and I got a side of hush puppies, because of course I did. The gumbo was delicious, with tons of seafood and sausage in it. The hush puppies were perfect, with a great crispy crunch but a soft inside. It's likely not the cheapest meal on Beale Street but it was great! The service was fast and the people were nice, and the historic building has such a cool feel. I would love to come back and listen to some live music!

Had the gumbo and smoked wings. Some of the best wings I've ever had. Gumbo was excellent too. Had a trumpet player performing that was great.

Ok...I hate writing bad reviews, I really do... but if people depend on real reviews as much as I do, then bad reviews are just as important as good ones. So we went to the spot on Beale street because we wanted some good food and the Beale street blues music experience. We struck out with this place. When we walked up there was nobody in the restaurant! (121 rule! See my other reviews) We decided to try it anyway. The band was just setting up. A nice young lady took our order. This should have been my warning. We order some crab cakes as an appetizer. I asked her how are the crab cakes, her response, "Oh they nasty!"...what? Ok whatever...she give me the "Special shrimp" which is just shrimp wrapped in very salty bacon. We both ordered the rib plate which was like eating a cowboy boot with poorly made sauce on it. Ugh! Just fyi don't believe anything you see in the pictures on Yelp! Something must have happened to this spot since those pics were taken. The only thing I can really say is the Coke was excellent! Sorry folks. Oh by the way that band was decent. They were called Cashmere, a little campy and had an early 80's feel but the singer was entertaining.

Buyer beware!!I came to this place to eat during the International Blues Challenge (my favorite Blues artist was performing at this location). I looked at their online menu ahead of time to see what kind of food this place serves. On the menu online, it mentions a cajun Sampler which consists of chicken wings, gator bites, and fried crawfish for $18.95. That sounded good, so I had that on my mind when I ordered it. When we got there service was S L O W!!! They only had one server, and after waiting for more than 20 minutes, my husband tracked her down so that I could order. I told the server I wanted ranch for the chicken wings. Well ranch was the only dipping sauce I got. My Sampler came with 2 whole chicken wings, a handful of gator bites and a handful of crawfish. My husband asked, " how much is this? $18.95?? That's a lot for what you get." I agreed. I ate my most of my food dry because they were stingy with the dipping sauce. It was just okay. I listened to the Blues performers and then went to pay for my food. The lady told me $34.15. "$34.15???' I had the cajun Sampler." She told yes with the 2 waters totals $34.15. I asked her how that could be when the cajun Sampler is $18.95 and showed her the online menu. She said, "Oh yeah. We need to update that." "What??? How much is the cajun Sampler?" $29.95 and shows me the house menu. I promise you that plate wasn't worth $18.95, let alone $29.95. I went on and paid my bill, but I will never go back. Absolutely ridiculous!!!
