Heart And Soul Catering

This company has catered multiple events at my school. The taco bar they put up is always very reliable and tasty. Food is a bit oily but probably expected with the quantity of food being ordered. The desserts are amazing. Overall, the food quality can vary quite a bit from one day to another but fairly good regardless.

DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. They charged us for service requested and then they never completed it. The staff was rude, they shut down our bar, and the food was terrible and cold. All other vendors were amazing but the biggest mistake of our entire wedding was hiring them!! They are completely dishonest people and the "Chef" lied to us multiple times. He said he would take care of things when he did not.. he didn't even show up. We tried to address the situation after our wedding and they had no sympathy for ruining our wedding day. Absolute embarrassment and waste of money! RUN!! WE SHOULD HAVE PICKED DRAPERS INSTEAD!!

Who doesn't like fresh, eye catching, yummy food? I know I do. My experience with heart and soul was a few years ago. They catered a friend's wedding reception. The food was amazing. The selection of was perfect. The staff was wonderful, polite and professional as well. Everyone was helpful and polite. I can't wait for my next experience with heart and soul catering.

I asked Michael Francis from Heart and Soul to cater for my daughter's wedding, because I had tried their food before on a couple different occasions and loved it. Now, with the wedding behind us, I can tell that I was very satisfied with the level of service and the quality of food that Michael and his staff provided. Michael is a very nice person to work with - he was always prompt to return my calls, helped me select the best combination of appetizers for our guests, worked with us to create the dinner menu and even helped me arrange the rental of everything we needed for the wedding (plates, glasses, etc..). As the mother of the bride, I was organizing the wedding almost singlehandedly, which ended up being quite stressful. Having Michael Francis as our caterer took a lot of the weight off my shoulders. The appetizers at our cocktail hour were excellent - everybody was talking about the absolutely delicious smoked salmon that Michael made for us. The food presentation was attractive and memorable, with flavors that matched the impressive displays. I ordered Prime rib for my main dish and I can say that it was the best prime rib I've ever tasted. I have to admit, there were just a couple minor issues, like the fact that a side dish was changed from smashed potatoes to rice pilaf without our approval, and that the basket for the newlyweds that I asked to be prepared, was not prepared. Other than that we really have no complaints. The catering team at the wedding was wonderful - very friendly and courteous. They did all they could to provide the best service to our guests. I would gladly recommend Michael Francis and his catering service Heart and Soul - they did a terrific job at my daughter's wedding!by Tanya G. (my superwoman mother)

This company caters luncheons for my volunteer group on a quarterly basis. Their food and service is very good. I'd recommend them to anybody.

Called to see if they could cater a work event An answering machine answers the phone and if you need help, you get transferred to a voice mailbox that is full, so you can't leave a message either. There is literally no way of getting in touch with these people. I'm not sure how they get any business.

DON'T USE THIS COMPANY. We were going to use Heart and Soul to cater our wedding and I'm glad we saw all the red flags in enough time to find another company. At the initial tasting, the food was okay but greasy and Michael added items that we didn't request...predominately fried foods. We specifically said "nothing with skewers" because of all the kids and 2 of the 6 items were on skewers. At the end of our consultation, Michael said if we paid him in cash we could get a little discount and avoid paying a food tax. Definitely raised suspicions with my wife and I...red flag. We moved forward and asked for them to send us a quote. This process took well over a month and a half and was only done after many, many unanswered phone calls and emails. Nobody at the company would return any phone calls...we left numerous voicemails and every now and then, someone would answer the phone but she said she would have Michael call us and that never happened. When we would get an email back, it felt like we were just getting the run around and he would simply tell us 'he's working on it.' He always had some excuse as to why he hasn't returned any of our calls...he was on the farm, in the mountains, on a trip etc. Any way for him to use the excuse "I had no cell reception." Apparently he didn't think that my fiancée (at the time) and I spoke to each other or compared notes because he would email me one thing explaining the hold up and her something totally different. His stories didn't match up. Another red flag. His emails were not professional and he actually told my wife to "Chill out. Everything will be fine." Not even making this up. Who speaks to the bride to be this way when we're trying to do business with you?? Our wedding had around 70 people there so it's not like this catering was a huge undertaking for him and his company. When we finally got a quote, it was for quite a bit more than we had initially agreed upon and he added 2 items that we did not even speak about. One being a soup which totally went against the theme of passed hors d'oeuvres and bite sized portions. He also sent a contract with a lot of additions and conditions we never spoke about and said "if you just sign the contract, we can get the ball rolling." As if there would be no push back or dialogue between us. Another red flag. At this point we had one foot out the door and were now scrambling to find another caterer. For whatever reason, and totally our fault, we never checked the Yelp reviews before beginning this process. Heart and Soul catered a lunch function at my work and that's when I initially met Michael. He said all the right things and the food was fine. After reading all the Yelp reviews, we knew we had no choice but to go with another caterer. I told him and his wife that we would not be using them and going in another direction. Any professionalism he had went out the window. He went back to the "if you can pay me in cash, I'll give you an even bigger discount." He seemed desperate. Another red flag. Luckily we were able to avoid a wedding day disaster like many others experienced, but still felt obligated to pass along this information in hopes that it helps someone else down the road. We ended up going with Black Sheep Catering and had a wonderful experience with them beginning to end.

Heart & Soul Catering completely failed me on one of the biggest days of my life!H&S looks good on paper! I had a great tasting, Michael is very personable, and will say all the right things someone wants to hear for their event. My wife and I heard it for 18 months in our back and forth communication with them, but then on our Wedding day they dropped the ball!We had hired H&S to serve our drinks, pass cocktail hour light bites, and most importantly serve our plated dinner to our 100 guests. In addition, they told us they would help flip the space. They dropped the ball on all fronts! It started with the flip, which the staff told us they don't do. This caused a 30 minute delay in the night's timeline, and our poor wedding planner and assistant doing much more manual labor then they ever should. The passed appetizers were cold and hard as a rock. The mini grilled cheeses were barely edible. The seated dinner didn't go much smoother, with cold food, and incorrect meals served. The vegetarian meals we had ordered for guests with dietary restrictions was ignored. Go into the drinks, what could go wrong there? Oh, just their bartenders taking down 1 bar at 7:30. Well prior to the 10:00 event end time.Well, was the service decent? Not at all, the staff was horrible to work with. The wedding planner had multiple instances dealing with them, and I also witnessed guests having issues with them. This all after Michael assured us we would get restaurant quality service. Speaking of Michael, he assured us he'd be there on the big day. He only books one large event a day and wanted it to go very smoothly he said! Well Michael was a no show. There was constant confusion from his staff, much back and forth, and nothing went well.Don't let H&S ruin your big day or even something as small as a catered lunch! They will show no ownership and certainly no remorse for screwing up your event.

This caterer absolutely RUINED a wedding for my best friends. I helped them choose this man, under the interpretation that he was honest, hard-working & a great chef. The tasting was incredible. However, when the wedding day arrived, after he had been paid, ALL OF HIS PROMISES WERE BROKEN! He didn't show up with a FULL staff to setup tables like he was suppose to, the few staff that were there were rude and extremely slow, they delayed the reception start by over an hour because they weren't prepared, the food was freezing COLD when served & where was the owner/chef? No where to be found! A sit down dinner that he was responsible for was absolutely RUINED! He should reimburse my friends and be reported to the Better Business Bureau! DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY, I repeat, DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY! My friends have tried to reach him repeatedly to see about him reimbursing them for services that weren't performed, but he refuses to answer their calls. He's a fraud!

I have since used Heart and Soul catering after they reached out to me as a result of my earlier review in 2011. Apparently, the employee responsible for the issue I dealt with has since left. They asked us to give them another try and they did a wonderful job. They catered a holiday party for 50 of my husband's work associates. The food was yummy and the presentation superb. We are using them to host another holiday party this year!
