A Dickson classic, if not an icon. The last of the old skool BBQ joints in Dickson or even Middle TN. Rib day, chicken day are great, but you come here for the PULLED pork BBQ sandwich. No shortcuts of chopping like some places- hand PULLED= less fat, and delicious. With slaw or without. The way Southern BBQ is meant to be. Sauces are vinegar based and solid, though, I wish they would add more heat to the HOT. Now, the other reason to come are Grandma's fried pies. The closest I've ever come to my own Grandma's. Apple, peach, or cherry, they're all good. Downside- for some unknown reason they don't make/serve iced tea. Drinks are a moneymaker, so I don't get that. The commercial drink box outside doesn't cut it.

Five stars.......this is authentic BBQ done right, by friendly, down to earth people. Delicious pulled pork, sides, and desserts.....reasonable pricing. This isn't some chain BBQ joint, don't expect plastic seats and printed cups. I have been here twice and both times I left full, satisfied, and thinking about when I can come back. Everyone has their idea of what BBQ should be..... this place makes a pulled pork sandwich that is very hard to beat.

When I am down at my farm near Dickson, especially on Wednesday (half price day), I often venture to Fossie's for a sandwich. I usually get a regular pork with slaw and a fried peach pie to go and eat it at the farm. There's something about eating a BBQ sandwich that makes me want a peach or strawberry Nehi. I used to stop at Tice's to get that fix, but now that they are more upscale, they don't have 'em, so I get an orange or grape. Now you have the makings of a perfect Dickson lunch. Be sure and try a Fossie's sandwich if you haven't. It's to go only, though they have an outside picnic table or two in case you just can't wait!

Fossies is one of my all time favorite joints. If I happen to be in Dickson on a pleasant day at lunch it's almost a guarantee that I'll make a visit. Fossie's daughter runs the place, a humble storage shed converted to kitchen and advice window. She cooks the whole shoulders over coals for 24 hours. When I asked her what temperate she likes to cook at, she held Heermance hand over the fire for a few seconds and said "about that hot". This is authentic barbecue made by a master. No auto temp cookers here. Just good old fashion experience and craft. I envy Fossie's business model. She makes as much que as she wants to sell today and when it's gone she flips to sign to closed and goes home. So get there early cuz when it's gone, you're out of luck. Make your way out to Dickson some time and experience some old fashioned roadside BBQ.

Been getting BBQ from Fossie's since the 1980s. They pull it fresh when you order and its never dry. Others in town are a bit to smoky tasting for me. Fossies is perfect. Sauce is the best I've ever had. They should market the sauce alone.
