I'm a huge theater fan (still trying to put together a Memphis Yelp Theater-goer group so if you are interested, shout out) and when I knew there was a local production of the Pulitzer Prize winner play "Disgraced" showing in town, I persuaded a co-worker to come and check it out with me at the Playhouse on a Friday night. So first of all, I'm super grateful there is $3 flat rate parking garage located just a street behind the theater as that made parking easy - but OMG the pavements are all torn up which meant walking that short street was a mine field in strapped heels! The theater is fairly intimate but walks big. Soon as you open the doors, the ticket box office is right in front of you and then you go into a foyer with doors leading off to the different theaters. For "Disgraced" I was at the Circuit Theater which I would guess is about a 100-seater. The acoustics were great and even though I had front row seats, the stage height was level with my eyes so there was no neck strain. Disgraced was a straight-up 1 act play which meant no breaks for 1 hr 15 mins and am glad the seats were comfortable!! The production values were superb and I just throughly enjoyed myself and had a smashing evening out. The cherry on the top was the talk-back session with the actors as "Disgraced" is such a challenging play. I'm definitely going back - the rest of the season for 2016-17 has some brilliant stuff coming up, so can't wait! Note: #291 of Yelp 100 challenge for 2016

I love coming here. They offer great discounts for students and coupons in the Entertainment book as well if you're not one anymore. They always have some play running and while I don't go to all of them I do like to go a few times a year. I've always found it to be an enjoyable experience. They often have a wide variety of plays showing that can suit anyone's interests. I went to one this month and plan to check out a few more in the fall.Favorite Plays I've Seen Here: - Avenue Q- Debbie Does Dallas- Seminar

Circuit Playhouse is directly across the street from Playhouse on the Square. The theater itself is not quite as nice as Playhouse on the Square but it's still a pretty good deal to take in a show because any seat in the house is a good seat. We recently went there to watch Reefer Madness, which was funny and entertaining at times but I personally wasn't awestruck by this play and I don't think the audience was really impressed either because of the lack luster applause the actors and actresses received at the end of the play.I'd highly recommend the Circuit Playhouse.

Circuit isn't fancy, compared to the renovated Playhouse on the Square, and it doesn't have the budget. What it does have is a gritty in-it-for-the-art-of-acting essence, and a devotion to serving Memphians and the community within its walls. Local artists are on display (currently two gouache artists, one who rides her bike and takes photos of the downtrodden parts of midtown), sets may be minimalistic, but there is usually a bar and it has a very cozy feeling. Support your local theater!

The theater is a little run-down looking, but what great theater isn't worn in? I have never seen a play here that I didn't love. They do some of the usual suspects in drama, but also I love that they'll do strange and unusual plays as well (somewhat recently, plays like "Hand to God," and my most recent check-in as I write this review, "Heathers: The Musical"). I'm always happy to support the Circuit, and I encourage y'all to as well!

We saw Junie B Jones the musical last Sunday and it was fun. Very kid friendly and humorous. I definitely recommend seeing the show.

This is another place that I have spent a lot of time in for the Indie Memphis Film Festival the past four years. Circuit is a great little local playhouse space that is famous in its own right. Not a lot of people know that Elvis spent time at this very playhouse watching movies and eating popcorn!I digress. This playhouse is now two separate buildings made into one...one side housing the theatre itself and the other side housing a small event space. Sadly, the building is quite dated, but it has a cozy, old-school feel. As a lover of all things Memphis, I love the historic appeal of this place and honestly am not sure that many Memphians are aware of its neat history. It is now a smaller branch of the larger Playhouse on the Square across the street, but it has character and theatre and history loving staff that love to share with you the stories the walls of this building witnessed! Check it out!
