Chef Chen’s

Really wanted to try their food. Went to place a takeout/doordash order, pint of vegetable noodles, shrimp fried rice, two egg rolls and beef with broccoli was almost $80 before delivery, tax and tip. Not going to pay that much for Chinese food.

We were reluctant to try because their overall reviews we went on a limb and were glad we did. It is the best classic Chinese food we have found in Shelbyville. We got our meal to go and it was ready promptly when expected and was still hot when we got home. It was very tasty and an appropriate portion for the price. Their overall review rating does not speak justly in my opinion of how tasty the food was, if you're looking for good classic Chinese food I would definitely recommend.

I had the sesame chicken. This was my first time here, so when I go to a new Chinese place, I always order a sesame chicken to see how it is. It was good! The chicken wasn't soft or squishy; it was crispy, which is so nice. The rice was good as was the spring roll. Okay, the decor in the restaurant is really, really bad, but the food is good. I had almost written off good Chinese food, but now I found a place I can enjoy.

Always fresh and delicious. Great prices too. This is my go to spot for Chinese food in Shelbyville.

Surprised by the low reviews. Now, this isn't a top notch fancy Chinese restaurant by any means but it meets the criteria for Chinese take out! We got the family meal deal & have plenty left over for more meals. Everything tasted great!

First time visiting Chef Chen's. I only ordered the egg drop soup and I was surprised (not in a good way) when she handed it to me literally a minute after I ordered it so that told me it was premade. I still wanted high hopes for it. But the fried wanton that comes with it tasted of fish, the soup was edible, yet not hot or as tasty as other Chinese places around. I won't be returning and considering calling the health department due to being so incredibly sick after eating.

Ordered General Tso chicken. Nothing complicated. The chicken was hard and chewy. I thought it may just be one or two pieces but no such luck. Definitely need to remove the Chef portion of the name. No chef works here. Disappointing.

prices I was told was different then what I was charged! owner told me the real price that matched the menu then changed it after I order! They should be ashamed of themselves, stealing from people!!!! I'm highly upset with them! NO ONE SHOULD EVER EAT THERE AND IF U DO well I'm sorry but I told u the truth about that place. I didn't even wanna give them one star but that's the least yelp makes u do!

The person answering the phone here speaks little English. I asked for low salt and she said sauce is extra. I tried again and asked for little salt and she replied that red sauce is $1.50 extra. I gave up and drove over there to order in person so the order would be correct. First, you have to stand outside to order in the cold and a funky little window. Ring the bell and she eventually came. The first thing out of her mouth was "what you want?" I started to order and she didn't have a clue. Then she gets rude. First and last time visit. Not worth the effort. Plenty other food around.

THIS PLACE WAS HORRIBLE. At every Chinese restaurant I have EVER ordered at, Chow mein has noodles. Us... ordering online... assuming that Chow mein is the same as every other place we have been to in America... in no way to be offensive... just what we know as Chowmein, did not get Chow Mein. We received what we know as a cabbage soup. We then drove back to the restaurant.. mind you.. we drove 45 minutes from Murfreesboro to get to the restaurant.. and we asked the OWNER if we could switch the food, and she then proceeds to tell us that it's not her problem, and literally called my husband STUPID for not knowing that Chow Mein does not have noodles. We literally sat there for 45 minutes.. talking to her, trying to understand why we could not get our food switched to what we thought we ordered. She said repeatedly that it's not her problem and she would give us the right food if we gave $10 more, after we already paid the $35 with a tip. She was so SO RUDE. DO NOT EVER GO HERE.
