Made a late reservation for New Years Eve dinner. They had no problem fitting us in and when we arrived the parking lot was packed. We only waited about 5 minutes to be seated near the large fireplace. The restaurant has a country log cabin feel and we were seated near the large fireplace in the main room which was nice on this cold, rainy evening. We were waited on quickly getting drinks and then placing our orders. We both visited the salad bar which was nicely stocked and I ordered the filet medium and my wife had the twin lobster tails.Dinner came fairly quickly for the full house and my steak was cooked perfectly. Warm but pink inside and it had an open flame grilled taste. The lobster tails were large for the price, cooked so they were tender and not at all chewy. The sugar snap peas with my steak were crisp and nicely seasoned and we also received a warm loaf of brown bread with our meal. Our waitress was helped by both the hostess and another server as it seemed she had too many tables to give us too much attention but we never had to wait too long. It was funny how out of breath she was running from table to table when she did stop by. Very good meal for the price. Dinner with four beers and tip came to $80.

Any time you add even amounts such as these on your dinner charges at "The Lantern " near Land Between the Lakes 26.00 10.00 5.0010.00 $51.50 subtotal 3.09 sales tax10.92 20% gratuity 65.51 total billNaturally your eye catches a mistake in the Subtotal amount as did mine as I looked over the bill I immediately and saw the error. I first asked the male server, he was completely oblivious to my question over the $.50 extra charge on an the total of $51.00. Then the female server that worked my order comes to me acting equally oblivious to my question over the 50 cent extra charge. The female server takes my cash payment of $65.00 (I a bit angry at this point hand the female server the ticket wallet and the $65.00 not keeping the cash register tape showing the figures above) telling her that was all I was paying and disappears.Shortly the older female manager (door greeter/seater) comes up to me in the area near our table; not sure if she is coming to explain the 50 cent mysterious over charge... I confront her about the extra 50 cent mysterious overcharge. She leaves me in the dining area I go to the front door "station" 5 minutes later she appears with an iPhone looking Device showing me some skewed line charge under the last $10.00 charge for the 50 cents that she says she could not understand why it did not print out on my cash register ticket for the meal.I advised her that the cash register tape did not show that 50 cents. And that having run my own business for 40 years and 5 months I was held to FTC Pricing rules and her cash register mis-added my bill and that error carried over into the total Tax of $3.09 and also the gratuity of $10.92 After leaving and promising not to return I drove 75 miles to Nashville to spend the night boiling over 50 cents only to find that not only charging me 50 cents too much; I was charged 20% gratuity on the $3.09 tax amount to figure the gratuity that now I have ultimately been over charged $0.72 more in Gratuity.ALL THIS TO INSULT TO MY INTELLIGENCE You can be assured that I won't be back to this kind of cash hungry overcharging. The very idea charging me 20% gratuity on Kentucky State sales tax. Are you keeping up that is now a $1.22 overcharge!!!My warning to you is to check your figures of this restaurant. In addition to the overpriced food charge anywhere else an order of Salmon would be $16.00 and these scalpers peddle this dish at $26.00I am ashamed to say that these people operate in the very community of my late Fathers birthplace that we routinely visit annually every Father'sDay!

I am only giving this place two stars because we had the greatest waitress, her name was Alicia. Let me start off by saying we were exhausted and desperately in search of a decent steak. We came across the Brass Lantern on Yelp. The recent reviews were great but the older ones were terrible. Figured it was worth a try. Neither of us are Yelp Snobs. We were greeted warmly by a woman in very casual clothing. The decor is quirky and dated but we didn't care. Ordered appetizers, cocktails, and steaks. While we were waiting we said what the heck let's take a shot. Our vacation has begun we might as well!! After ordering our shots we were approached by the manager/owner. She was incredibly uncomfortable and borderline offended that we ordered shots. She informed us that this was a classy establishment and asked us how many drinks we have had. We proceeded to defend our character and our thought process. Then we informed her that every "classy establishment" (she was wearing flip flops, not the fancy kind) where we are from serves shots (Flemings, Mortons, etc.). She said she would allow us to have them this once...lucky us! Our steaks arrive and mine is great, his was terrible. The waitress asked if we wanted it to go seeing as he had three bites of his steak, I explained it wasn't good. We both ordered $40.00 steaks and tipped our waitress well. Couple of things from someone in the service industry. Train your employees to not vacuum around people while they are eating, train them to question why the food is left on the plate and address appropriately, train them so you don't have to micro manage them. This is a direct reflection of the owner/manager.

Great food from a real resteraunt. Very friendly staff as well as a wonderful old building. The Sal is bar was well stocked and the bison steak was very good. Their beef steak was also tender and delicious. Will definitely go back when in the area.

Very good value for a nice meal. I had the grilled salmon with grilled shrimp and scallops. It was cooked perfectly, moist and delicious. My husband enjoyed the special of a perfectly cooked steak and grilled shrimp. The salad bar had blue cheese crumbles, which was a treat. We finished with creme brulee and derby pie, which were both quite good. Overall, we had a lovely meal and will definitely be back.

On Memorial Day Weekend we called for a reservation and the lady on the phone said that they may close early due to business being slow, but if we were there before 8:PM they would happily serve us. Making it in the door just before 8:PM to be seated was most likely not a good idea, we took our chances and were seated in the main dinning room, a lovely place. We placed our appetizer order while looking over the menu. Due to the fact that my sweetheart has an allergy to Gluten and most of the appetizers were fried we chose the Seared Scallops, now as not to waste time and knowing they wanted to close early we made our dinner choices, the 14oz Sirloin cooked Medium and the Seared Ahi Tuna with the the marinade on the side as these marinade usually have soy sauce in them and most soy sauces have gluten. Now our appetizer came to the table Fried Scallops ?We looked at the plate and looked at each other, then we asked to see the menu again, we were sure that we ordered the Seared Scallops, the owner came over and asked if there was a problem and we asked about the Scallops and told her about my Sweetie's gluten allergy, she stated that you can have the scallops Seared or Fried, she never offered to take them back and prepare them seared as we were sure that we ordered or to prepare something else for us. Now comes the dinner, my Steak was cooked perfectly medium, but, the Ahi Tuna was over cooked. Needless to say my sweetheart did not have a good dinner or experience at the Brass Lantern however, we will give them another chance as we all know that anyone can have a bad day and it was not all bad, their place is a charming spot just off of the lake. I did read on their website that the owners moved to Kentucky to open this restaurant, the husband has many years of experience in restaurant management and the wife has a bookeeping background, this must have been the bookeeper we encountered as her hospitality and customer service was not her strong suit.

This is an amazing restaurant. My boyfriend and I were the only ones dining in the restaurant when we got there which made us a little nervous about it. We stuck it out and got great service, I can't remember our waitresses name but it was 7/5 at about 7:30. She was very nice and friendly. We ordered the mushroom burger and one of the pork dishes to pair with a bottle of wine. The food and wine were delicious! The burger and the pork came out cooked perfectly! The steak fries that came with the burger were different because they were literally a potato cut into four pieces, seasoned and cooked perfectly though! This was a very nice restaurant and it would be perfect for a date night as they do serve excellent food. The bill was about $52 but it was well worth the money. I'm sure that it is busier on the weekends but I hope it picks up at all times because it was amazing and deserves to do well.If we have time, we will definitely stop here again while on this trip!

Stale decor includes ripped tablecloths and a very musty smell, very slow service, food ok but presentation lacking. We're writing this off our places to go. Gave it 2 stars only because the food was fair. Expensive for what you get!!
