Very good and friendly table service. Most consistently good food we've found in the county so far. There is something almost every trip unfortunately but welcome to Ballard County. My French toast a couple weeks back wasn't quite saturated with the eggs so it was more like bread and syrup. The beans with yesterday's lunch were barely warm. They offer margarine but not butter. No non dairy creamer. But again consistent hot fresh food.

Just as I remember from my childhood. Catfish was not greasy, generous portions and service was great! Nice to see some things don't change.

If you find yourself anywhere near Cairo, Illinois, in search of breakfast at a classic American diner, the Blue Grass in La Center, Kentucky, might be your best bet.Uniquely located within the tiny quadrilateral that will experience a total solar eclipse in both 2017 and 2024, the Blue Grass Restaurant serves up tasty dishes, a $7.50 breakfast buffet, and what locals call some really good all-you-can-eat catfish. I was three hours too early to verify the latter.A massive omelet with two sides was a modest $7, quite the bargain. The eggs encompassing the omelet were light, soft, and delightfully thin, as impeccably fresh as the peppers and bacon inside. The major drawback was the mystery cheese. Most omelettes are made with jack or cheddar, but this was more like a bitter liquid goop that one might find in a middle school cafeteria. I guess I should have predicted this when the menu simply stated "cheese" without further specification. Avoid at all costs! The biscuits were very good, nicely fluffy, and the hashbrowns were almost perfect, full of flavor, not too heavy, and a nice crisp edge !in places. The buffet was small but featured all the best sides, so it's probably worth your $7.50 to get stuffed.

Stopped in on a Sunday traveling home to Mississippi. Great restaurant, with excellent service and food. Had a great buffet lunch at a really reasonable price. We stopped because it reminded us home. We were very pleased! Will be back on our next visit.

My wife and I stopped in for the buffet, after a harrowing Friday night drive through Cairo. Their buffet has many golden-brown goodies on it. TGI Fried, right? The catfish that I ate was good, though I was scared of the whole catfish (sans head). The soup was homemade, meaning it was ugly. But still good. Wood paneling, a relic of the '70s, lined the walls, but the place had the hospitality of that golden age too. One of the waitresses gave us the low-down on Cairo, a fascinating and harrowing town. The owner was very friendly and loved talking with us about Chicago and Greektown. He gave us a piece of pie! Now that's friendly. I don't get no free pie in Chicago suburbia, that's for sure.We likely won't be back, as we live so far away. But if we were closer, we'd stop in. It's the kind of place you want to stumble across while driving along the backwater roads of America.

Wonderful, down home restaurant with large portions and small prices. I had a breakfast plate and my husband had the Mexican burger. Both were delicious. Highly recommend!

Typical example of a great small town non-fast food restaurant. Your host and hostess are extremely friendly and accommodating. My friends enjoy the buffet and like the fried catfish and chicken offerings. I can't get past the gyros sandwich which you can order open faced with beef/lamb or chicken. Onion rings and fries are delightful. They are quick to refill your soft drinks and coffee. They have an extensive menu which will take some time to read through. Their desert pies look delicious, however I've always been too stuffed by the quite generously portions gyros.
