What a fun event! I had no expectations for our visit on Friday September 25, 2015 and am happy to say that I was delighted w/ this well organized event. It's Thursday- Saturday 11 am- 11 pm, free, friendly people esp. those running the Beer Garden and Tommy Q's bbq stand. I liked that I could buy drink tickets for $5 each for Schlafly Beer (St. Louis) and Purple Toad Wine (Paducah). They also offer other options- check out my pic. There is something for everyone. It's a great walking opportunity to explore a cool town as you can walk down by the water and through downtown. Bathrooms were clean and the lines moved quickly. We had a nice conversation w/ the guy in charge of the Fishes of the Ohio River display. Don't miss this event and go hungry!!http://www.bbqontheriver.org

This was our 2nd year and plan to go next year, if we can get a hotel room. This year we scored VIP seating through Family Services of Paducah. The event is a major fundraiser for local charities. Food booths raise money from your purchase of great bbq. We have been to Memphis in May, but we couldn't get bbq since that was only for the judges and private groups associated with the contestants. This is by far better as you work your way through the streets visiting various booths and tasting bbq ribs, brisket, chicken, turkey legs, pulled pork...and my fave the smoked bologna sandwich. Come for food, music and give to charity.

Some of the food is excellent! It's a yearly event in which people from ALL over come to Paducah, KY to eat bbq and stuff together. If you aren't a fan on humongous crouds, this isn't the place for you. It's nothing to get all excited about but it's okay if you make a trip there.

Went to G's to get ribs because a friend of my girlfriend says there the best this year. But was very disappointed by tough chewy $27 ribs.I was asked if I wanted them cut up so I asked if they were tender enough to not need them cut and they said yes.I struggled to even pill them apart.I made better ribs in the oven.I guess that's why there was no line when I got there. So yeah G's ribs are well below what you would expect at a great BBQ event.
