August Moon Chinese Restaurant

Upon the recommendation of a local resident, I dropped by here for my very first time during lunch. (The exterior of the restaurant doesn't look like much, but don't let that deter you.)The curry chicken (menu item SPC 12) was really nicely prepared to my specifications. I asked for extra onions, low sodium, and a spice level of 3 out of 10. The other side food items that came with my "All Day Special" were just meh/mediocre (unimpressive fried rice and tough, reheated sweet & sour chicken).Given that there was only one lone waitress on duty, the service was surprisingly efficient and personable.It was pretty amazing how this establishment completely filled up with patrons during a Friday lunch hour. Thus, their free-for-all parking lot can get packed with a jumble of cars. You may end up blocked in, or have to park along the side street.My recommendation would be to order food that will be made to order. A solid three star for the food that was fresh and the friendly service. I'll probably return, since Helena - West Helena doesn't have a very wide selection of restaurants.

Soul food dine in or carry out. There is also a taste for Chinese food. Excellent service.

Food is always excellent and fast. No dine in or buffet since Covid but great for takeout.

Inconsistent. No atmosphere. Owners might or might not be friendly. I've had Chinese here, meh. Plate lunches are usually the safest option except on Pot Roast day and that's a "no"...

We didn't come for the Chinese food - we came for the fried chicken plate lunch! It's surprising, but August Moon is more well known for their "American" food than they are for their Asian dishes, even though they are owned and run by a Chinese family.We went on a Saturday with the plan of ordering the plate lunch, but found when we arrived that they only serve plate lunches during the week. Never fear, they have a friend chicken dinner on their menu. It comes with a salad, mashed potatoes and gravy, a roll, and you can pick white or dark meat for the chicken. Mine was apparently really, really good, because my plate was empty before I realized what had happened. The salad is essentially iceberg lettuce with diced tomatoes on top, but everything else was really good. I sort of needed a nap afterwards though.The ambiance score here is zero, so bring some friends to give you something nice to look at.

Food is good but owner is NOT FRIENDLY when I infact received a BURNT egg roll. It was literally black on one end. "It's not burnt, it's soft" no ma'am if it's black in color, it's burnt. Won't be coming back anytime soon!

We ordered take out from here recently and we were all disappointed. The beef used in two of the plates tasted leftover or precooked, I don't know it just tasted old. The sauce on the beef tasted like packaged brown gravy. The shrimp on another plate was mushy and served with a clear looking garlic sauce. Not good at all. Egg rolls were pretty good but have to be ordered separately off of the appetizer menu. The rice included with the meals was hard and crunchy. We will not be ordering from here again.

My husband had the pot roast plate and I had the chicken fried steak... both were good but the sides are where it's at! The sweet potatoes were superb, my husband said they were the best he'd ever had. The cabbage and pinto were delicious.
