31 South Barbecue

Ummm...this is a bit difficult to write a review. I never had a BBQ like this before. I'd say that it is a new world for my taste buds. The sauces make it different and outstanding from other BBQ joints. If you like your BBQ a little sweeter, you will love 31 South. The Brisket is cooked perfectly. I enjoyed it a lot. Again, I never had brisket with a sweet sauce before. It is different in a good way. Wings are delicious. Sweet potato fries are great. Slaw and baked beans are yummy. The best dessert you've never had is interestingly tasty! Just get ready for a sugar high after the meal :)

What a surprise this place was! In Waco picking up some antiques and the seller who fortuitously lived directly across the street gave me his highest recommendation, especially for the pizza and calzones. The smell of the pit immediately turned my attention to BBQ, and it did not disappoint. Got the pork plate and what I thought were baked beans but turned out to be a big glob of unseasoned white beans, they didn't have any chow chow to fix that so I left them alone... lesson learned. The pork however had a great smoky flavor, slightly dry but delicious still and the house BBQ sauce complemented it perfectly. Now about that potato salad....5*****, get the potato salad, its world class. My driver loved his Waco sandwich, polished off every bite and said he would order that again if he was ever lost in Waco TN again. We both got a banana pudding to go and unfortunately that was a major disappointment. Too bad for 31 South that they are smack in the center of the Banana Pudding Universe, for 3 bucks I wouldn't complain, for $4.50 it was not good, and undersized in those little 8oz, go cups. I asked 3 people going out the door what their favorite menu item was and they all said calzones. Weird for a BBQ joint but thats what I want next trip over. And BTW the drive down here is beautiful, well worth the trip. Read a lot about the service but our server could not have been any sweeter or more attentive, Not her fault she doesn't know what the hell chow chow is.

To start off was traveling thru the area. There were three of us for lunch that day and the food was amazing. Pulled pork sandwiches, not covered in sauce and were moist. That's a tell tale sign right there the food is not over cooked. Any BBQ joint that uses a lot of sauce is covering for dried out meat.The ambiance was casual and the inside is just your down home restaurant. We went during/end of the lunch rush so one young lady was hustling to keep the tables cleared and drinks filled for everyone. She did a great job. Will definitely stop back in when I am back in the area for a good meal.

The pizza was limp and bland. Someone said it was the best pizza ever. I worried for this person. They should stick to bbq.

Excellent pork bbq in Waco (not Lynnville), Tennessee. Waco is a historic crossroads town at US 31 and TN 129. So go west of Lynnville and to US 31 go North at the crossroads. Can't miss it.And you don't want to. I just grabbed a pork bbq sandwich for the road on my first visit--moist, flavorable meat with sauce on the side (so you can do it up your way--love that).While waiting just for a couple of minutes I checked out the menu--LOTS of choices, lots of sides. Clean clean, great service

Tried the brisket plate with baked beans and fried onion tangles. Brisket had a great smoked flavor to it. Nice smoke ring just inside of the crust. Very good. And their special sauce is like liquid crack loaded with brown sugar. The fried onion tangles were very crispy and loved their taste. The beans were ok. To many different beans for my taste but sauce and flavor was good. Also had their fried peach pie. Whoa, this was a surprise. Very good !!!!

Have visited 31south twice now. First visit was great had the pulled pork plate it was delicious. On 2nd visit had their pizza probably the best pizza I've had in Southern Tennessee.

Well I seem to be the first reviewer. New location for great barbecue!!! Had the half rack of St Louis ribs only available on Friday and Saturday. Fell off the bone and right onto my mouth. Fantastic! The menu is a good selection of chicken, BBQ pork, brisket and a smoked sausage sandwich that looked amazing. Sides were excellent, deviled egg potato salad was very yummy.The parking lot is large and perfect for car groups to meet or drive destination. Outside seating area is covered and has plenty of tables for warm weather dinning. Inside is clean with plenty of room. Will be back for sure!!

Picked a bad day to come in on a Saturday - no onion rings in our sandwiches - they were understaffed Not a good first visit
