As someone from Jersey, I can testify they have a great and authentic New Jersey Italian sandwich. Their fries have a great selection of sauces. The people working here are nice and chill.

The DAM burger cured my hangover. There's a fun list of sauces to choose from and the service is really good especially for being an order at the counter type spot. But, there are definitely better burgers in Seattle especially for $23.

Dan is the man, and he and his team make a MEAN sandwich. If this joint were closer to me, I'd come here VERY often, if not for the delicious sandwiches then definitely for the outstanding service and vibe. You walk into that beautiful yellow door and feel like you're at home instantly. If you're particular, there are pics of the sandwiches at the register but we knew we wanted the Mean sandwich (thiccc brisket) & the WTK (fried chicken po boy) -- both came with salt and pepp potato skins and they did NOT disappoint. Dan recommended the white sauce and ketchup, so I got the white sauce and ketchup and dipped each crispy potato skin to my hearts content. The brisket sandwich was tender and not too fatty, a rarity in the brisket world -- and the way they cut the richness with different elements like mustard & mint is ingenious. My partners chicken sandwich was soooo delicious too, especially adding the cheese Dan recommended (when in doubt, listen to Dan). The slight kick from the sauce and crunchy lettuce & decadence of the fried chicken made this one of the best poboys I've ever tasted. He asked how everything was at the perfect time: mouth full, happy feelings, eating my last potato skin while the cool music in the back persisted. I have nothing but great things to say about this place and I look forward to every Ballard trip because if this place is open, that's where I'll be.

Been to a few Seattle sandwich shops and thought I'd found the best. That was until I tried Mean Sandwich today and all my expectations were blown away. Cute little corner shop that is plenty busy so don't mind the wait. Phenomenal flavors and already planning my next trip. Steak tartare was my favorite!

Wow this place was great. We got the Italian sub and split it, perfect amount of food with the tasty potato wedges. Paired it with a glass of rose and it was the perfect afternoon lunch. Service was friendly and fast.

Arrived for lunch and all the seating was already taken. Luckily I had two options: 1) sit outside - it's covered, but on a windy and stormy day, still not a pleasant place to enjoy a meal. 2) Drink beer next door at Bickersons Brewhouse and eat my meal. I opted for the second option as I came with a group of 8, including 4 kids. It was easy to order online from their website and food pickup was easy. I ordered the mean sandwich and the double cheeseburger. They were also very accommodating for special requests for kids. Sandwich and skins, including the loaded option were all really good. I'd love to come here during the warmer months and sit outside!

The owner/manager was nice but the staff was not. The fries were homemade but burnt skins unfortunately.

The customer service here was absolutely fantastic! Gave us great guidance on the menu and recommended some of his own personal favorite ways to enjoy the choices we made. Bathroom was clean and fully stocked with tp and paper towel. We ordered a Jersey sub to share and some extra sauces for our skins, spicy remoulade and white sauce. He said the white sauce would cool down the spice on the sandwich. The sandwich was delicious and I loved dipping it into the remoulade!

Mean Sandwich is the type of place I hesitate to review. The selfish part of me wants to keep it just for myself. But they deserve the props. The first time I entered the place, someone was coming out with a big bag of sandwiches, looked at me and said "SO GOOD" before trotting off. They were so right.I've had the Italian and the DAM burger. Stellar. The Italian was the best Italian sub I'd had in decades. The burger should be called the DAM FINE burger, juicy, fresh, cooked to perfection. Omg and the potatoes. The finishing touch to all of this is the staff. It's like being in the R.E.M. "Shiny Happy People " video. Friendly, helpful, and they all seemed to really like working there.Okay. I've said my piece. But keep it to yourself, ok?

It took awhile for our order to get ready (I overheard that it was mixed up with the previous table) but otherwise the diner had an old timey vibe with cute car with flags as the table number placeholder. It's a casual place to grab a bite with nice courtyard seating and their servers are friendly without being intrusive. We went out of our way to go here and I'll give it a shout and say that the salt-n-pepa potatoes were pretty good! I ordered the midnight at the oasis and was pleasantly surprised that the falafel came out as a full patty since usually falafel is just smushed in between the buns for these dishes. The harissa beets also paired well with the persian pickles. I'm not sure if I would go out of my way to come here in the future if I were to return to Ballard though for the sandwich, but that could be a bit colored because I'm vegetarian and don't see the need to explore more of the menu beyond.
