I recently visited Matsunori Handroll Bar, and the food was incredibly fresh and delicious!- Akami Jelly: Lean tuna with ponzu jelly- Miso Butter Cod: Black cod marinated for 72 hours, served with homemade miso butter cream- Spicy Scallop: Scallops topped with spicy mayo and masago tobiko- Scallop: Scallops with cucumber, sea salt, and lime zestPlenty of street parking options outside and around the block -- best to go when there's no Red Sox games!

Matsunori is a clean modern but chic sushi/handroll bar in Brookline. We loved its minimalist wood aesthetic which made this place feel relaxing and cozy. We got here at opening and were seating almost immediately. The service was fast and efficient. Server/staff were all so friendly and attentive without being too overbearing with our party of 4. She was super sweet and even offered up mochi ice cream after our dining experience. As for food, they by far serve the best hand rolls I've had in Boston! The quality of fish is so fresh and buttery. The Toro was beyond my expectations, very meaty (a nice thick cut) and extremely buttery that melted in your mouth. It was my absolute favorite. The fishes are so fresh that you don't even need soy sauce! It's already so tasty. You can tell they took their time to thoughtfully craft their menu and rolls which were incredible in flavor. We also got the wagyu and uni hand rolls which was a unique combo rich and creamy in flavor. The botan ebi Ikura was nice and sweet with the perfect tender but chewy shrimp texture. This place does an amazing job at bringing out the natural flavors of the seafood and not overpowering it with anything else. It was an absolutely delightful experience to dine here.

Lobster -wish it was warm, flavor was good but temp threw me off (personal preference) Fois gras - BEST bite of the night, would come back again just for this. Steepest price tho, but not awful ($15? Check me on that) Miso cod -so yummy Mentaiko crab -ok, as expected Ebi, salmon handroll -not memorable Eel-great, hard to mess up in general Rolls r a good size, I actually start feeling full around 3-4. No res, walk in only but wait has always been okay or non existent :)

Finally more approachable sushi options in Boston! Have been here a few times now and have been pretty satisfied overall.Food: overall the bill can add up, considering you'd want at least 3-4 rolls to start feeling full, but there are rolls under $8 which is great pricing for Boston. their classics (tuna, salmon, yellowtail) were solid with interesting additions that didnt take away from the fish (rice puffs, scallion, etc). the signatures/specials were also quite good as well - especially the miso butter cod, which has become my girlfriend's favorite. FYI these have more intense additions so expect less fish-forward and more interesting flavors.*would highly recommend the chawanmushi (savory egg custard) as a starter. warm, savory, and the perfect way to get hungry for sushi.Ambiance: small, low-key spot. can sit at tables or counter-top to see the chefs doing their magic.Service/logistics: usually a bit of a wait. would recommend putting your name down as early as you can and walking around H-mart or japonaise to spend time. service was smooth overall.Overall a very solid handroll place and a welcomed addition to the Boston sushi scene.

Food was absolutely amazing everything is so fresh and the service great! The rolls came out quick after placing the order. We ordered 6 rolls each and it was so filling. Honestly 4 rolls is enough to be full but we wanted to try more since there's so many delicious options on the menu. The decor is simple and clean :) and the desert is very subtly sweet which is great.

The ambiance was very welcoming and friendly. Our server Jess was very helpful. She went through the menu with us and gave us a handful of recommendations. The food was extremely fresh and wonderful. It wasn't too much or too little. I was full after about 6 rolls and that's pretty good. I have a heavy appetite. I was most definitely come here again. My favorite roll was spicy salmon as it was simple but well executed. Blue crab is also a must they give you a lot and it's nice and delicate. The miso cod was amazing as well. They fill ur tastebuds with flavors. Those are the 3 I recommend to try for sure. 5/5, (wonderful gimme 14 of them)

As a sushi enthusiast, I was quite pleased with my first hand roll experience! Matsunori was featured on the Boston Eater blog, which is how I stumbled upon it amongst the other dining options in the area. Limited hours and no reservations means this place fills up fast - we arrived at 4:45pm and there were at least 4 other parties waiting as well. This is definitely not a place you will want to sit and catch up with friends. Service is extremely fast and the servers were very attentive in getting orders out, filling up waters, and moving away used dishes. Handrolls come out one at a time, and once you finish one, the next one comes right out. As for food, price did not seem to be indicative of which was our favorite. Overall, the best rolls seemed to be in the signature category with the spicy tempura shrimp and miso cod being our favorites. The wagyu and toro mushroom were good - but could have been elevated by being seared. Sadly, they did not have the matcha tiramisu either. Overall, it is worth a visit for the unique menu and good food. For those who are looking to solely appreciate the fish, ordering sashimi or nigiri at another place may be a better option.
