Last minute reservations as my crew was wanting sushi on Friday night in Seattle. We picked Matsu and it met all our expectations. Started with complimentary edamame, a 3 part sake flight for my husband and an Atari Sunset cocktail for me. The sake flight was clearly explained by our server and we all tried the three very different varieties. Everyone had a different favorite. My cocktail was so delicious that I ordered another. The watermelon flavor was authentic and not too sweet with a bit of lime. We ordered a medium omakase - all nigiri and the fish was so fresh and tasty that it seemed wrong to even dip it in soy sauce. I had the miso soup which was perfect. Mushrooms had a nice bite and plenty of tofu. We also tried the white tiger roll, ordered some hamachi hand rolls (I'm obsessed), unagi roll, and a Seattle roll. Our server was very attentive and friendly. A delicious meal in a beautiful setting. We will be back!

my boyfriend made reservations here for Valentine's Day as he enjoys sushi and I wanted to try some place new. We arrived around 5pm and it took a bit of time to find parking on the street, so I would advise scheduling ahead since you'll likely have to walk over. Once we got there, we checked in with the host and it wasn't very busy, so we were seated immediately in the back. There's many different parts to their MDF with a chefs counter, booth seating inside a wooden frame and window seating around with the bar in a separate area. The ambiance was pretty casual, not too loud and more private. It was really cold inside though, it seemed like the same temperature outside in. The service was okay, not very personable. They have you pull up the menu online and then you order. Food and drinks wise wasn't wowing. edamame: this was a complimentary starter given to us upon being seated. It lacked salt and was hard from being undercooked, so we didn't eat this.ultimate dragon: my boyfriend got this dish as his entree and said that the soy glaze at the bottom overpowered the dish making it very sweet karaage: this was his favorite dish as the breading was well seasoned and the chicken was cooked fresh.inari: nothing special, honestly what you would expect out of inari but it's served individual for $3 each which is a bit steep for the size imoyakiudon w/ tofu: I liked the overall flavoring of this dish was salty and savory esp. with a bunch of shichimi togarashi yum! the noodles however were gummy from being over cooked and the amount of udon seemed scarce passion fruit lemonade: I think I was most disappointed by this drink because I was expecting it to be refreshing and sweet with real passion fruit, but it was super tart. They also told me it was a syrup, so I sent it back and asked for it to be made sweeter. It came back a bit better, but it wasn't like I thought originally ordering overall, the experience and food was lackluster, so it was nice to try but wouldn't come back

Great service, beautiful ambience. I've been here years ago when they first opened, at the time I was more into specialty rolls, and the specialty rolls are good. Ankimo is still delicious, but when it comes to the nigiri, it definitely falls short. Rice is really overcooked. Uni - from Santa Barbara was NOT good, I almost threw up. And I'm an uni lover, it has that lower grade quality and flavor. Scallop tastes fresh and cleanIkura okay, too much rice ratioAmaebi was actually really good, but the head was served to me somewhat lukewarmBlue fin tuna sampler was probably my favorite, but the rice quality kind if ruined it, overcooked and not well portioned for the fish, and also a little too big for one bite. Negihama roll was good, simple, again rice is overcooked and just doesn't taste right California roll and crunchy lizard, my son enjoyed bothSpicy tuna roll, did not like it, the tuna itself was too blended so it had really no fish texture, these kinds of rolls tastes better when the fish its chopped by hand. Was not spicy at all, asked for habanero sauce and they brought me a sweet habanero sauce on a plate. I just hate when there's that much sweetness on something spicy (tearssss)Anywho I was expecting a nice dinner with great sushi, but it's definitely a place with casual quality sushi components. I actually skipped Kura to come here, and I would've probably had the same experience there foodwise. Service from front to dining room, to leaving was excellent. Really great team they have working together. Beautiful ambience, nice intimate setting. I personally do not recommend any nigiri style sushi here, due to the quality of rice. But I can say if you order sashimi, you can get a decent meal sashimi style. Also wish they had better champagne by the glass options, a dry bubble would be nice, I decided on sake, and did not like the sohomare much, it had a bitter aftertaste, dassai 45 nigori was good, a little too sweet but I enjoy dassais.Sons passion fruit lemonade was really great!See photos

I just wanted a chill night before my wedding, so I went with my maid of honor. We were searching for sushi spot, and I'm so grateful there are not a lot of people here on a Saturday. I would even say this place is kind of like hidden gem. We got uni, and the waitress said it's straight from Japan. We tried it, and oh my! It's sweet and melted in my mouth, I didn't even want to finish it in first bite so I took two bites because it's too good and I feel so happy. Their other sushi were also amazing! Definitely going to come back all the time whenever I'm in Seattle!

We were able to get in without a reservation on a Wednesday night and right before the 5:50 pm happy hour cutoff!I mainly come here for happy hour, which they offer in the bar and main dining room. Their HH menu is substantial with a wide variety of offerings. On this visit, we had the yellowtail kama, tempura platter, KFC wings, agadashi tofu, calamari and unagi roll. The kama was $8.00 and cooked to perfection, fish was tender and came with a side salad. The KFC wings is one of their signature appetizers, which is always solid. The agadashi tofu arrived at room temp and my sister didn't seem to mind. Service was prompt and friendly. We were constantly checked on. Side note: HH is not offered when there's an event at Lumen Field.

Beautiful space for a range of occasions. The food was good, but the standard menu for whichever parent company owns Matsu and Momiji -- nothing unique but all well done. We had the gyoza (which was vegan friendly), spicy tuna roll (where the tuna is mashed instead of whole and sliced) and an array of sushi/sashimi. The interior is beautiful, ornate, and bright -- there are fountains and a cool structure in the middle of the restaurant. The bar is more dim and romantic of a setting. Service was quick and staff was very polite. There is generally plenty of parking available, but not on event days as the stadiums are very nearby.

Wanted to try Matsu for sometime so went here during TaylorSwift concert night.I had high hopes on it that they would have good veggie options but i was disappointed.I think its Not a vegetarian-friendly place . There were only few options and we ordered three dishes and I wouldn't says they were appealing or good. Mushroom gyoza- server said that its vegan, but we got the taste of egg in it so we left it half eaten (server didn't even remove it from the bill)Green decadence roll - they were just ok, nothing special about them. Only thing that we could finish.Yakiudon tofu noodles- they were also just ok, nothing special. Somehow they made it little creamy probably due to usage of lot of oil and salt, which we didn't like.Service was not at all good. Host was friendly but our server was not at all. Only when she brought the bill to us (food is expensive), she talked to us to know how we are doing. Before that, no conversation at all. Ambiance was just ok as well, i think we sat outside so we could hear TS songs, but the restaurant was playing their own radio songs, so it seemed like a loud place. Also we could see couple of homeless folks making noises. Inside was still a bit better.

Avid sushi lover here so I was very excited to try this place out in the city. First off walking into the restaurant you're greeted with what looks like a spa entrance with nice reflecting pond and floor to ceiling hardwood accents. The vibe is very homey yet classy. The service was a little lacking due to there being 2 servers on but the food was top notch. As from the photos we ordered quite a bit and all of it was amazing. Highly recommend the house roll and the salmon trio.

Matsu is one of the very few decent restaurants in Seattle that can accommodate large parties and does reservations. It has a very similar menu to Momiji and Umi (sister restaurants) with a bigger, more corporate feeling vibe. Service has always been great, and I end up here when I can't get a reservation at the other two on short notice. They also have a large bar area for happy hour, though you can get the happy hour menu at the regular tables as well. It's right by the stadium, so parking can be impossible if there's an event going on.

Oh my god I LOVE this place. Came here randomly and it exceeded my expectations. It's so nice on the inside and the rolls taste amazing. Even the classic/simple rolls tasted great. We also ordered drinks as it was happy hour and those tasted great too! I would say this is probably one of my favorite sushi spots in Seattle - just wish the location was different.
