Mastiff Kitchen - La Mesa

Just WOW. So wow that my husband and I ate here two days in a row! We first heard of their smash burger from a friend. We got there right when they opened for lunch. Chris who helped us was very nice and personable. We each got a smash burger and a slice of pizza because it looked so dang good! The smash burger was one of my favorite smash burgers in San Diego. Perfect crispy patty, delish aioli or whatever the sauce was and I did appreciate the additional toppings, lettuce, tomato, onions, cheese. The pizza was also INCREDIBLE. Our favorite pizza is TNT pizza in downtown and this gives TNT a run for their money. I am so excited to have found this gem in La Mesa. We just moved to the neighborhood. The pizza was so good that we got it for dinner the next day! We had the sausage pepper and then the meat one. Everything was 5 stars and beyond. If you like really great smash burgers and really great Detroit style pizza come here!! PS they have a TON of beers on tap that seemed really good. Will be back in 9 months for some adult beverages ;) in the meantime, this may be a weekly frequent!

Came here because of a suggestion from a DuKe's Burger's customer on Yelp. We wanted a good smash burger that didn't cost an arm and a leg. We made a good choice by coming here instead. Casual dining place, you order at the counter but a server comes around still checking on you. The burgers were hearty and delicious just a bit too much of the mayo which was supposed to be aioli, maybe next time no spread for us. The maple Brussel sprouts were my favorite, a perfect crunch and sweet combo, we also got the Pepperoni pizza, it was cheesy and had tons of pepperoni. There's a large selection of beer and also non alcoholic beverages. Definitely will be a place we will come back to.

Usually I take photos of the menu and add them to my review. But this day I was very hungry and just forgot. We went here around the July 4th holiday; I know it was a weekday, but I just remember craving a good hamburger and pizza. I love to support local as much as I can and I found this while searching online. And it's in the neighborhood for me! So even better! My fiancé and I were first timers and considering it's also a bar, we weren't sure what to expect esp around a holiday. We were greeted almost immediately by the cashier. She answered all our questions, was super patient with us, told us all the specials and promos they currently had, and gave some recommendations too. Including pairings with the food we got. The place wasn't super packed, but there is limited seating. The place was a lot smaller than I expected. It seems like it's more for groups of people or those who prefer bar seating. My fiancé and I sat at a table for 4-6 because they didn't have any 2 seaters and the bar was full at the time. The food was really good. I was super surprised by the burger. It was really good and juicy. I think next time though I'd go with the plain fries. The sauce they used on the fries just wasn't for me. I could see why people would like it and I respect it. The pizza was really good though they do add a ton of marinara on top. It was a little too much for me and next time I'd order with less or none at all. Pricing for everything was not bad and you definitely get the bang for buck. Which is what always draws me to places. Quality of food and quantity of food for a reasonable price. Def would recommend next time someone asks me for a sports bar or place to watch sports with friends. I'd just come back for the burger

We were looking for a chill spot to catch the SDSU game and this place had everything we could ask for. Huge beer selection and all week happy hour already make this spot worth it, but the service and food put it over any others.The smash burgers and pizza are top notch here! Get either and you will not be disappointed. We have gotten the pork nugs, sliders and they are OK. Imo the best app would be the wings. I definitely would come back for the happy hour and pizza as they are a can't miss!

My gf and I decided to go out for dinner and we enjoyed going here the first time so we didn't hesitate to go back. We sat at the bar and grabbed some beers. I ordered the meet meat pizza and some wings while my gf had the sliders. I underestimated the size of the pizza and only ate half. The pizza crust was a little burnt, but not too bad. The wings were amazing. As for the sliders. I really wish that I would have other those instead. Can't go wrong with the food, but the pizza is deep dish vice regular crust.

Ok, guys, it's the first time here, and let me just say I really liked this place. Walking in The tables and chairs are really cool and the parking is pretty good. I got the pork nugs, pepperoni pizza,chicken wings & smashburger sliders, which were all great!!!!Joe was very helpful and didn't mind me taking pictures of the place... Sorry, I didn't take any picks of the food. Because I got it to go doesn't look as good in the box to be posted online.

Came here during their happy hour and they offer some pretty good deals. Got their mastiff fries, Brussels sprouts, and smash burger slider. Each of these were $5. They also offer $5 off all their whole pizzas. Took advantage of this and ordered their That's My Boy pizza. Suuuuuper good. Comes with pepperoni, ricotta cheese, jalapeño, honey, and red sauce. The balance of spiciness and sweetness is perfect. I noticed they had a bunch of beers on draft so it would be a great place to chill and have some drinks, too.

Came here during happy hour with a group of friends, loved all our food! Came all the way from LA looking for a bite! The food was so fresh and good! Very tasteful! Happy hour was great! They had a fully stocked bar too!! The service was great, the waiters there are so friendly. Definitely cooking back! Small little corner resto/bar but definitely a great place for a quick bite!

Delicious pizza conveniently located in La Mesa. I've only ever ordered takeout, but the ambience inside the place looks chill and laid back, a place to hangout with friends to enjoy a beer and some bites.First of all, the crust on these pan pizzas are sooooo delicious, it's a crispy cheese crust. I've tried other pan pizzas/Detroit style pizzas in SD but have found the cheese crust flavor in other places to be way too overpowering. Not at Mastiff though, flavor is just right. I have tried their Choke n Chiken and That's My Boy - both highly savory and delicious pan pizzas. They're soooo good, I wish the pizzas were bigger!! That being said though, 2 slices fill me up plenty, and for my husband he can do 2.5-3 slices in one sitting (but 3 is pushing it). I really enjoy that when you go pick them up, they take some extra steps to pack your order to make sure it's as enjoyable as possible. I've noticed that the team will spread some hot/fresh tomato sauce on top of the pizza and grate fresh (Parmesan?) cheese on top. It's such a nice touch!! The box the pizzas come in are very sturdy, which is important since these pizzas are pretty thick.I also appreciate that Mastiff has a parking lot, makes picking up much easier. This will easily become my go to for pan pizza.

5 Stars based on the Mush Love pizza!!! Would def come back for more (and to try the burgers) are you kidding...My friend and I were seated at the bar and our server was so nice! No wait time for water refills and was checked on :) When the pizza came out, we were questioning if it was a deep dish but it's just thick crispy dough! You can hear the crunch biting into it, just need to eat it at a good pace or the bottom will get soggy. Flavorful tomato sauce, toppings falling off the bone. Chill and casual place to dine!
