Masa's Sushi

I went here on a trip to Chicago, which is where I am originally from. This little hidden spot. Does not deserve to be hidden when it has very good sushi at a very reasonable price. We found this place while we were looking for some sushi one night and found that our regular spot was closed. My family and I were so happy with the sushi that we had food excellent and the mother, father and son Trio that worked was great super nice and super friendly. The only thing I have to say about this place is that chicken teriyaki was a bit overcooked but i'm not removing a star because of that since they did take it off or refunded the money because we said it wasn't that good if you want some sushi come here.

We just ordered out for lunch. I got three shrimp rolls1) Spicy Shrimp - was not spicy and we think, not even shrimp. We had no idea what it was. However, what it was was inedible.2) Shrimp Tempura - if there was tempura, it was mashed and mixed with the mayo which made it look like it had been sitting in the fridge for a couple days. No crunch whatsoever and made it look like multiple day old guacamole (icky brownish color).3) Just plain shrimp roll which was very fresh with huge hunks of shrimp. I wish all my rolls were this way. My wife got a poke bowl with tuna, rice, avocado, cucumber and cilantro. However, they left out the avocado most likely because she told them no avocado in the rolls. Learn how to listen maybe? It was a large bowl, so we could have shared (had I liked tuna, avocado, or cilantro), but now knowing the size of this portion lets us know that (if there is a next time) we could easily share the bowl. Moral or the story: Go somewhere else for sushi. This place has gone downhill.

Carry out order was perfect. Fish was fresh. A nice surprise from a smaller restaurant. Wish they had a website to see current menu/prices.

I can't believe I haven't been here till now! Small spot but the maki was so tasty. I ordered the Gina roll and the unagi. Really nicely presented too. The list is long for maki so I'll return.

Dinner tonight: Masa's Special 1, Omelette Sashimi, Striped Bass Sashimi, White Tuna Sashimi, Rainbow Roll, and a Buffalo Grove Roll. So much sushi and sashimi, so fresh and so delicious! My favorite is the white tuna and their salmon. It's always so cold and fresh, I can hear the delicious "crunch/snap" of the fish. Hubs loves the tuna rolls because they're mostly tuna and the clam sashimi aren't chewy one bit. Masa Sushi is a small, unassuming, and unpretentious sushi restaurant with very limited seating AND the most friendliest owner couple you will ever meet! This does not mean the quality of the sushi or the intricacies of the artistry to the rolls are poor. THE FRESHEST SUSHI EVER! The portions are generous and yet still delicate to be a couple of bites. It's not mostly rice like many of the sushi places nearby. Masa Sushi uses the rice just as vessel to hold the fresh fish, not as the filler to make the portion look bigger. The couple who owns the restaurant are so sweet. They're passionate about their business and treat their customers like they've known you forever! My husband and I don't order too often from here, but they still greet us like we were just there last week and ask us about our sons (not just how are the kids, but how are your 2 boys).

Fantastic, fresh sushi and I believe it's family owned. I believe it's the best sushi place in BG and their prices are very reasonable.

We ordered a sushi tray and yaki soba for pick up. Everything was delicious, fresh and wallet friendly, especially for sushi! The people are so nice and accommodating. Not sure what they put in their spicy mayo but it's so good! Different than any I've had. Will be our go-to for takeout for sure.

Not sure how I never found this place before but better late than never! I love the genuine and authentic care and quality Masa's Sushi offers! The sushi and rolls are great and priced appropriately. The owners are kind and deliver the type of service I found in Tokyo when traveling. What a gem!

Great value for sushi, always great tasting creations and the owners are the nicest people.. would suggest this place for take out anytime.

Only a few tables and most patrons do take out but the service is friendly and welcoming. You will find All the traditional sushi offerings. Nothing out of the extraordinary but solid, consistent, fresh Japanese food. It just hits the spot for me.
