This is by far THE BEST sushi spot in East Nashville. It may actually be one of THE BEST in Nashville. Service is always great and prompt. You honestly can't go wrong with anything that you order here. There is usually a wait so plan accordingly. I can't say that I have a favorite roll here, so get multiple at a time. What you don't eat there you can take to go.

During my visit to Nashville in late July, I suggested sushi for dinner. My sister and brother-in-law suggested this place as they had ordered takeout from here numerous times. Arriving here on a Friday around 7ish, we were quickly seated and served. As with most sushi spots, they have the sushi station in the middle so you can see how the sushi is prepped. It's a way to entertain yourself if you're mesmerized by food preparation. As for dishes, we started with the agedashi tofu which is fried tofu with Japanese bonito & scallions. Pretty tasty, especially dipping in the soy sauce. Good texture and comes with 4 pieces. As for entrees, we split a Shrimp Udon noodles, the Pork Katsu, and the Baked sushi (Volcano roll and Shrimp Supreme roll). The noodles were alright; pretty standard with the stir fry and sauce but you know what you're getting with it. The Pork Katsu was a favorite as the pork was tender and breaded nicely. We liked it so much I forgot to snap a photograph since we were busy gorging it. Both baked sushi dishes tasted good. I liked the Volcano roll the most with the fried shrimp and avocado topped with salmon, spicy tuna, and the eel sauce. Textures of the baked sushi is unorthodox for me. It's a popular dish there and people seem to take a liking to it. I prefer my sushi to be classically handrolled. At least I can now say I've tasted it. We were pretty full after our meals so no dessert although the fried oreo and tempura ice cream looked tempting. This is a popular spot and I look forward to coming back and trying other items. No baked sushi for me though, I'll stick with the handrolled types!

Wow what a great sushi spot. I had high expectations because of the high rating & I was not disappointed. Miso soup was fantastic and the dynamic roll was my favorite.

We had no idea Maru was in our neighborhood, but thanks to a quick search on Yelp, and some rave reviews from fellow Yelp Elites, we now have a new go-to sushi spot!We stopped in on a Thursday evening around 6 pm and the restaurant was busy but not packed. A waitress let us know we could sit wherever we wanted, so we snagged a table on the patio next to some beautiful blooming trees. Their menu is expansive, and we opted to share some spicy edamame while deciding what sushi rolls we wanted. Emphasis on "spicy," because the heat is no joke! Thankfully, we'd also ordered some Coconut Lemongrass Sake, which helped balance out the spice. We shared four rolls - and loved each of them for different reasons! All of the fish was fresh and bright, and even the rolls that had something fried inside (shrimp tempura or soft shell crab) weren't super heavy. The Green Roll offered a fun, veggie-centric bite with a creamy finish. My husband's favorite was the "Captain's Secret," which was a little sweet, a little crispy, and super flavorful. The service was fast and attentive - and the prices were pretty spot on for the amount of food we got. I absolutely recommend this hidden gem to anyone looking for a unique sushi experience in East!

Great little restaurant. Very quaint, prices were great for the quality and quantity of the food. Had a Philadelphia roll and a spicy tuna! Had the ginger and seaweed salad, the dumpling and the beef fried rice which was very good and perfect to share. Delicious. Service was great and quick. Highly recommend.

We were super tired and didn't want to go out, so we had Maru delivered to our Airbnb. It was refreshing to eat something light as opposed to all the other heavy food we were eating in Nashville!I got a cup of miso soup, which was all broth with two cubes of tofu, it was good. We split three rolls. I was worried that would be too much food, but their rolls are on the smaller size so it was perfect.Philadelphia - Typical salmon, cream cheese, and avocado roll. I was happy with it.Yum Yum - Yummy for sure! This was "spicy" crab, cucumber, more crab meat, and "spicy" mayo. This did not pack a punch with the spice level, but it was really tasty and our favorite roll. I loved how much crab meat there was!Crunch Shrimp - I was expecting the crunch to be on top, like every other sushi place I have been to, but it was inside the roll? Very odd...it was like eating sand. The shrimp was dry, the crunch was dry...it needed avocado or some sauce or something to compensate for the dryness. We didn't finish this roll.Prices were cheap, each roll was less than $10. Without all the Postmates fees this probably would be been less than $30!

I enjoy visits to Maru with my family for the delicious Japanese and Korean dishes that are fresh and approachable. The kids love the udon dishes, I enjoy the vegetarian ramen, and service is always friendly, helpful, and patient with kids. The nigiri and sashimi are OK, while the vegetable-heavy green roll and veggie roll are always a big hit with my kids. Other enjoyable dishes are squid salad and agedashi tofu. Everything is thoughtfully presented. Pricing is reasonable. The variety of seating makes the restaurant lively yet suitable for conversation or a solo meal. In mild weather, the large patio is fantastic, and the rear garage doors open for even more al fresco dining. While the parking lot is small, there is ample street parking nearby, even on busier weekend nights.

Took a little longer than expected. Especially when we accidentally ended up at The Nations location first. Sushi would probably be better fresh in the restaurant.
