Mariscos El Abuelo Y Yo Seafood

Thank goodness I found this restaurant on Yelp! I traveled pretty far but it was BEYOND worth it. I am not too familiar with Mexican seafood but this restaurant turned me into a huge fan. I had the seafood served in a pineapple with melted chz on top. It was phenomenal. I am not sure what they do with that crab or lobster salad but I left wanting more! Great sized portions that make you full. Definitely worth the price you pay. I even had a chance to meet the owners, and they are so kind. Great family owned & operated business. Gracias!

Me gusto. Camarones a la diabla y cóctel de camaron y pulpo. Todo muy bien cérvido. Lugar esta limpio. Buen servicio. El estacionamiento es difícil de encontrar y aceptan tarjetas pero cobran fee- así que es mejor llevar cash. Fuimos un sábado 2pm ambiente tranquilo. Nada de música fuerte o cantantes/músicos.

This place wa as so lively!Their menus are only in Spanish so brush up before you go.They have a constant source of Mariachis, other singers, people selling flowers, etc. that come through. They sing then bring their can around to collect money as patrons are eating.It was kind of cute when the first set of singers came through, but by the time the fourth set came through it didn't feel exciting. I didn't like the fact that I was eating and being constantly asked to go into my wallet and pull out money. I was trying to eat! I suppose I was unaware of the culture of the restaurant and relaxed a bit. Just know if you go to this place you'll be paying for more than your meal. They literally will wait for you to opened your wallet and give them money. I don't think I liked that part.Now, to the food. They serve you shrimp soup in Styrofoam cups. It's the whole shrimp so you have eyes, antennae and all. Gulp!It was spicy yet very tasty. I had to move the unfortunate full bodied shrimp from my cup to enjoy the soup.We ordered the shrimp cake as an appetizer. I show a photo of one cut in half. It was very tasty and again spicy. Each table has a basket of thick saltine crackers that went well with the soup.My entree was garlic shrimp with butter rice and a salad with avocado and tomato. Everything was delicious!I will definitely visit this place again because the service was fast. The servers were kind and attentive.The atmosphere was busy, lively and colorful.

Came on a Saturday afternoon, greeted immediately as we walked in. We were seated right away. When you are seated you receive a cup of shrimp soup, which is very flavorful. I ordered shrimp empanada platter. It was amazing! I'd definitely come back for it again The only down side is it was hot ! They have a little ac unit, it got quickly .

Terrible food, terrible service. I only found this place because of a friend Anni who knows the son of the owner (some ignorant tool named Alex) that I hadnt seen in awhile. We tried to have coffee and dinner but this place but it really was a disappointment. You would think a place that had "seafood" in the name would try to have fresh seafood but their fish and shrimp all smell kind of off. Drinks are not well made with no flare put into it at all.Mostly, the staff and owners are really rude and don't care at all if you enjoy yourself or if you come back. You will regret patronizing this place, considering you have so many other options for mexican seafood, if that's what you like. I DO NOT RECOMMEND you waste time or money on this trashy place.

Fishy, smelly seafood, dirty, oily seats and tables, rude and hostile staff, arrogant scamming owners. Don't even think about wasting your time and money on this disgusting hellhole. It had to be one of the worst experiences I've had recently. We tried to give them a chance to just make a few things right because we are not the type to look for trouble or complain unnecessarily but after mentioning a few things we thought weren't done satisfactorily (basically the food smells off, like it has been around for too long) the owner sent his thug son to our table to harass us and basically threaten us just for asking them to take care of the food we ordered. I think his name is Alejandro. We regret ever having come to this place. Disgusting food, disgusting people. AVOID THIS PLACE.

Another hidden treasure. Want a smaller setting with the best fried fish or langostinos estilo Nayarit then this is the place to go to. Have been coming here for years. I prefer it over las Islas Maria's any day.

Visiting from out of state. Was recommended this place. What a nice hidden gem! I was immediately hooked once I tasted the consomé. Great marisco, great service and great food. It's a definitely a must try if your visiting Chicago and craving Mexican Mariscos.
