Tldr:Disrespectful, homophobic, and discriminatory staff (my experience)Context:This store closes at 10:00pm and I came about 9:40pm. I try not to be that person who comes at the end before closing, but they were still full and taking customers, and almost every seat was full- inside and out.Experience:Someone just finished purchasing ice cream at the counter when I came up and asked if I could order there to sit down. The staff who came up replied that sitting inside was fine, pointed to an open table, and asked how many would be eating in. I was with my partner (we are a queer couple) when I responded and said just the two of us. Right after I said that, he looked at us, paused, and said they were closing the inside and we would have to leave and order ours to go outside the shop. Mind you I saw them scooping out ice cream as I was at the counter and people were still coming in behind us. I was very confused because he just finished saying I could eat inside, but when I said it was for both of us, that was when he changed his mind and said we would have to leave. This staff walked away and another one was nearby, so I asked her what happened and after she looked at us, said they would not be serving us inside. At this point both my partner and I looked at each other dumb-founded because this place was packed, we came up right after someone else ordered and another couple came in behind us, but none of them had not been asked to leave.Honestly I would never come back to this place again. I will be transparent that it is a popular location and might have good ice cream, but I will not support a shop that discriminates against queer people. I don't want to just assume that all staff/the owner are homophobic, but based on my entire experience, I'm left without other options.We ended up walking down the road a bit to another place (that also closed at 10:00pm), and made it before closing. They said they were fine serving us despite the close timing and treated us very nicely. This isn't a sponsored post for the other place, but think through all of the options you have before settling on Margie's Candies for a sub-par experience.

My favorite thing about Margie's is its retro charm. When I entered the shop, I felt like I traveled back in time. A classic summer hangout spot, Margie's always deliveries a great time. Splitting a sundae with friends is one of my favorite summer traditions. The menu can be overwhelming with the massive spread of sundaes, banana splits, and flavors so I recommend reviewing the menu ahead of time. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu though, the fudge and syrups are homemade and taste legit. Like many have said, the wafers are an underrated but really does add to the experience. Finding seating can be rough, especially if you're part of a large group. I have seen this spot packed even in the winter!

Holy crap what a find. This place has a vintage ice cream shop field. We ordered a jumbo sundae with hot fudge. I shared this with my boyfriend and there was more than enough food. The ice cream was really good but not the best I've ever had. Go for the vibes and order a crazy sundae.

Absolute madness - the ice creams are huge and delicious. I've never had French vanilla so tasty and their whipped cream was the perfect level of sweetness to complement the ice cream. They have full service seating and a window for takeaway orders. The service is quick, they answer all questions you have, and everything is efficient. The prices are also absurdly good. Could feed 2-3 people easily - the bowls were bigger than my head!

I love this neighborhood ice cream shop. The store looks old fashioned, but in a nostalgic way. It is always bustling with customers. They have a vast selection of ice cream and chocolates. I got a chocolate chip cookie dough sundae and it was melt in your mouth delicious. The ice cream was so creamy and I was even given a free vanilla wafer with my order.

Lovely dessert spot - there's a huge menu to select your dessert from. Great service & you pay at the counter afterwards. Extensive ice cream flavors - would stay away from the strawberry sadly - but the cookies and cream, fudge, and bananas were tasty! Decent amount of seating and there's a private space in the back, so can imagine it's good for parties!

Margie's is a place my husband and I would go to when we first started dating and had now become a little tradition to go there at a spur of the moment when we're craving something sweet. We prefer the Montrose location due to finding parking easily compared to Western. The workers are amazing and always get our order correct and are very sweet no matter the time of the day. Definitely recommend this location and the ice cream is always delicious!

Jimi got shamed for not being aware of what a Chicago staple this place is. And earlier in the day, Jimi got shamed by some twerps for not being as good at wiffle ball as he once was. So Jimi drowned his sorrows in two scoops of the Mackinac Island Fudge on waffle cone. Wiffle and waffle in same day LoL. Once Jimi embraced his sticky, messy hand, he was able to enjoy the fudgy goodness. Almost makes up for being a loser. Almost. 5 stars

This is one of two Margies Candies locations in the Chicago area ... this one on Montrose being the second to open. That said, if you are looking for good ice cream this is a great place. They presciently opened here, right next to the Montrose station on the Brown Line ... you can get off the "L" and grab some ice cream as you exit ... very smart. This is an old-fashioned kind of place, and they offer all the usuals: ice creams, shakes, sundaes, banana splits, and malts ... if it is ice cream related, they probably have it. Inside the store there are only a few tables for sit down eating ... either the ice cream delights or a few sandwiches and salads they also offer. If you want it to go, don't even bother coming in to the store as they have a take out window on the outside to handle that business. Great service, great product, neat ambiance. Try it...

Asked for extra carmel and hot fudge. Did not get. Daughter asked for a specific candy with her order did not get and had to go back in for. 2 errors same day visit. It was our first visit.Not really interested in going back. There is better out there. Did not live up to the hype.
