Heard this may be the oldest Japanese restaurant in town, so I think it's worth checking out for its history. Food was not fancy, felt very much like home-made meals in Japan. Unlike other fancy Japanese/ fusion restaurants with excessive garnishes and plating, Maneki serves authentic food. Service was nice and I am glad that they are reopening after many months of vacation.

Although unassuming from the outside, Maneki brings all the charm of authentic Japanese cuisine. Food: We had the tuna nigiri and unagi. The tuna is deliciously fresh and graciously portioned. It is served traditionally with the wasabi in between the fish and the rice, but it is a subtle heat. The unagi(eel) was my favorite, both sweet and savory, there is plenty to be shared between two people. The soft rice underneath is marinated and flavorful.Service: attentive, but if you need anything additionally after your food has arrived, you will need to ask. Ambiance: cozy wooden interior. Tip: reservations are made through text, so be mindful ! Sometimes this place is so popular that reservations need to be made well in advanced (up to 1-2 weeks).

An interesting traditional Japanese restaurant in the heart of downtown Seattle. My family was sat in one of its private rooms with a low table where we left our shoes neatly outside and felt like we were in Tokyo! The food was very traditional too. We had the Age Dashi Tofu which was soft and smooth. The Black Cod Collar Miso and Saba Ichiya Boshi were excellent! They were juicy and succulent. We made sure we try their sushi roll items and they didn't disappoint.

Got the private tatami room!!! Just amazing food and service. So delicious. We tried so many dishes- on the specials, bento, udon, the special eel thing that everyone talks about, eggplant, I can't remember the food. I don't think I've anything like I can say that hasn't already been said.

can't go wrong with anything on this menu. that being said, i think my expectations were set too high for this restaurant, or just wasn't ordering the right dishes. the black cod collar was the best dish, but the shabu shabu--while good--was underwhelming in the meat portion.

After a Japanese- American tour at Wing Luke Center, we learned about Maneki with its deep history in Seattle. We wanted to try the food, but we kept getting text messages claiming there aren't any tables left, two nights in row. We have gone ahead with another Japanese restaurant in the area instead.

Super yummy, diverse menu! They have all sorts of Japanese food here, from sushi to curry to teriyaki. I loved the items I tried, which were the spicy creamy scallop roll and the takoyaki. Only thing is that I wish they had more vegetarian items! A lot of their vegetarian menu actually uses dashi, so just something to beware before eating here. If you're vegetarian/vegan, I'd definitely recommend asking about the menu before ordering!

Our visit to Maneki was truly a delightful and authentic experience from start to finish. As a party of seven, we were pleasantly surprised to have our own private room, adding an intimate touch to our dining experience. Before entering, we were kindly asked to take off our shoes, which immediately set a cozy and homely atmosphere. The room was tastefully decorated, adding to the charm of the evening. The service we received was exceptional - the staff was incredibly kind and patient, ensuring that our needs were met promptly throughout the meal. We were even treated to complimentary hot barley tea, a thoughtful touch that added to the overall warmth of the experience.I got the Pork Katsu in Beef Curry, which was part of their specials for the week, and it was so yummy! The chicken was crispy, and paired so well with the curry and rice. The flavors were rich and satisfying, and the portion size was generous enough to enjoy as leftovers the next day. Overall a great experie

Went to our favorite restaurant after being closed for a while. Food was about the same. Good. However, what shocked us was the price. We ordered Sukiyaki Combo, Black Cod collar, Kama Meshi Unagi, Karaage and extra bowl of rice. The price went up between 40% to 50%. That was a bit steep. The worst part was the Host came and asked if we were done (our Son was still eating). He returned with the check within a few minutes. We were only there around 45 minutes. First time for us. That was a disappointment. We are not planning to return anytime soon. :(

Loved the food here! They take reservations by text, which is a little strange, but they are actually very responsive. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. We had the beef sukiyaki, miso cod cheeks and agedashi tofu. We loved the beef sukiyaki and recommend getting an extra bowl of rice to soak up the tasty soup. The miso cod is pretty bony and I probably wouldn't get it again. The tofu was crisp and delicious. I'm already looking forward to my return. We saw some people eating their bento boxes on our way out, and even though I was stuffed from my meal, I was tempted to sit down again and order more food. The ambiance was quiet and nice. Bathrooms were very clean - not always the case in the I-district.
