Mandarin Kitchen

Came home from a flight too late for our normal dinner and decided to go out at 7:35PM. First place we tried closed in 20 minutes but Mandarin Kitchen was open until 8:30PM. We ordered 2 individual dinners, one with Mongolian Beef and one with Kung Pao chicken. Soup came out almost immediately along with one glass of wine. As always, the glass was full for $7.50. Both dinners arrived quickly and after eating our fill, there was enough left for lunch the next day so we got a box. We were out of there in 40 minutes. The place is a bit dim and sterile but the food and service are always great and very fast. This is a neighborhood gem we continue to return to again and again. Owner seems to be there all the time and is always friendly.

Disappointed. Stellar 6 months ago and then owner retired. Now this is what you get. Both were combination dishes. One lo mien, one fried rice. Both had shrimp. Both had chicken but pieces were different. Only the rice had beef and bbq pork. Not sure what kind of combo this was. Flavors were meh. Now looking again for a decent Chinese place around the airport.

First time eating there last nightFood was SO good, Service was great, got it to go and it was ready on time , ambiance was good, people were having a good time and enjoying the food.Place was very busy, I'm sure it's always busy, it was just that good!!

We knew we could find some good Chinese in Tacoma and this spot was the one many recommended on the site. We got there and were seated right away. We have our dishes put in play and I was happy with all but one of them. It basically came down to flavor and the broccoli beef and veggie fried rice were good, but the chicken chow mein lacked flavor. The veggies in the dish were light and didn't help bring it together, but other than that, I was pleased with the amount of food that my girlfriend and I shared. We were looked after well and the owner was a nice guy.

Solid place. Delicious and I love their wonton soup and fried rice and orange chicken.

We are patrons of The Mandarin Kitchen for many any years. It is sad to see the old owners retire (we wish Mike and his family a very happy and much deserved retirement) but the new owner (Andy) and his family were incredibly friendly and accommodating to our group. There were 20 people on a Saturday evening and everything was fantastic!It was nice to see basically the same menu and there are some new dishes too. AND sushi too.Andy came over and introduced himself to us and was perfectly delightful.I can say for sure we will continue our monthly trips to the The Mandarin Kitchen!

Needs severe course correctionI hate to write a negative review about Mandarin Kitchen. I live a 1/2 mile away, under prior ownership it was the Chinese restaurant south of the International District. Now it's vastly interior to Panda Express (my definition of 3 stars). And the pricing is higher than South Sound establishments.Take out details: I started with my favorite soup, wonton. This was so salty as to be inedible. I'm skeptical the chef tasted it, as it tasted like double strength bouillon cubes in water. It didn't have the amazing ginger & sesame flavor that makes a wonton broth. The serving was 1/2 sized (bizarrely) but I guess I'm happy as I was unable to drink more than a spoonful.I then had the General Tsao's Chicken - not only did it have no heat or ginger it's sweet and sour lacked any tang or much sour. The fry was overly thick and detached from the chicken. Finally, I had fried rice that was edible but lacked in seasoning or chopped vegetables; the pork in the fried rice was over small bits that were hard and tasteless.I hope this restaurant returns to it's former glory. But I'm likely to stay away for at least a year. I'd recommend you do the same.

New owners, not the same food. Saturday night 6 PM, empty restaurant. Lack of flavor and not well cooked. Consistency and flavor were trade marks of the past owner...Ordered three dishes - Pork Fried Rice, Garlic Green Beans, General Tao's Chicken. The fried rice tasted like it was out of a bag. Does not bite like wok cooked. Green beans were missing the wok fried bite, sauce, and flavor with stems and ends.The General Tao's was oily and gloppy, not really better than frozen. We won't be back.

Offered a $10 refund for $50 of completely inedible food. I ordered two individual dinners to go. That comes with almond chicken, a veggie roll, bbq pork, fried rice, soup, and entree of your choice. Almond chicken in both orders didn't come with the gravy so it was just unseasoned cooked chicken. My sweet and sour chicken didn't come with the sauce so also unflavored chicken. They didn't put the veggie roll of the bbq pork in either order. The only sauce I did get was the hot mustard for the bbq pork I didn't receive. They tried to only give me $5 until I mentioned I paid $50, waited 50 minutes and can only eat the rice and soup. Which also were not good. This place used to be amazing but new managements has completely ruined it. I just paid $50 for soggy rice, poor egg flower soup and completely unflavored chicken. Everyone in the waiting room for to-go orders also had been waiting over 30 minutes and all the dine in folks were complaining on their way out :/And as an update, I didn't even receive the refund!
