Mama's Yawd

This business has been closed since 11/2023 but never considered shutting down their yelp page that is still actively accepting orders.

I was craving some JA food. Found Mama's Yawd on Google it was pretty close to my house. I typically get brown stew chicken and decided to get that from Mama's as well. The restaurant was standard size for a Caribbean spot. The stew looked a bit different then what I was use to seeing but I decided to get it anyway. I typically don't like large drums. Overall the food wasn't as good as I'm use to but I'll def check it for curry or the oxtail. Customer service was excellent. The staff was young but they were very polite and helpful.

Ordered some Oxtail and a Spicy Beef Patty from here on UberEats. The packaging was perfect and the plate was wrapped in plastic wrap to ensure no spillage during transit. The food was still hot when it arrived.The oxtail wasn't super seasoned or spicy, it also wasn't super tender and the gravy was way too thin. It tasted more like Southern Oxtail and not Caribbean. The rice and peas were hard. The cabbage was pretty good tho. The beef patty was really good and actually spicy. Oxtail 2/10Spicy Beef Patty 8/10Overall, I wouldn't reorder but maybe their other plates are good.

Great customer service and great food. I was told about other places in the array and they treated me as if I was one of their own.

Tiny place but big portions and solid food. We enjoyed our meals! I liked the callaloo & saltfish - since I got it with rice & peas with spicy spinach on the side, my plate looked like a heap of greens! The oxtails are fall off the bone soft, the chicken in brown sauce with cabbage on the side was perfect for my elderly roommate who loves cabbage and doesn't like very spicy food. The pies are made elsewhere but they are good. I didn't take a photo of the chicken curry pie, but that was by far the best - flaky and great curry flavor. There were a bunch of Jamaica aunties that showed up as we were leaving so this place has loyal customers even without a Yelp presence. It is closed in Saturday but open on Sunday when they also have Mac and cheese in addition to menu items listed on the website. Give it a try! Nice young people's working there; mama has been out for a while but hopefully will be back soon.

Great chicken and rice !!!! But the plantains are terrible. Plantains make my meal so really I didn't enjoy it! They were fried too hard, I didn't taste the sweetness at all.

Random stop to pick up something quick for lunch. Food was delicious, fresh and authentic. I will be back!!

The jerk chicken, rice and peas, and even the gravy was excellent ; however nearly $15.00 for 2.5 drumsticks is extremely over priced and I eat out a lot

This restaurant is located in a shopping center area and is a bit hidden. After finding it, I walked in to find a cashier who looked a bit surprised that someone even walked in. I greeted her and she greeted back. I proceeded to give my order. The cashier packed it on, so I was pleased to see that. I paid for my food and left. Surprisingly, the food was not as flavorful as I've had before. There was a definite lack of seasoning. I'll stick to what I know and will not visit here again.

I'm glad there's finally an authentic Jamaican spot in North Decatur. Very affordable. Located in the plaza with goodwill.
