Driving home from an appointment this AM I had a craving for homemade corned beef hash and eggs. I was close to a "Snooze AM Eatery" and theirs is pretty good so I went there only to find that they were closed. I was planning to stop in San Marcos to do some shopping so I googled Best Corned Beef Hash in San Marcos. There was an article about Mama Kat's and the corned beef hash so I came to check it out. If you appreciate a home made, simple, corned beef hash and eggs, this is the place!!!! Very simple, no peppers or cheese or other ridiculous ingredients. This was an amazing breakfast. I like my poached eggs soft and running so I suggest you specify or they will be closer to medium. Staff is great. Food great. Classic breakfast place. Don't miss it.

LOCATION/ENVIRONMENT: off the 78 highway in San Marcos one of the popular brunch breakfast spots. Parking can be a little difficult as there is a small lot, but we still found some on a busy Sunday afternoon. Great cozy and mom and pop feel breakfast spot with plenty of seating. SERVICE: friendly and hospitable. They checked on us frequently, and even waiting 40 mins they got people in and out quick. Great service overall! FOOD: food is a bit pricier with almost $20 a plate and the skillet was great but small portion than I was expecting. The French toast was great highly recommend! Overall great food but not the best. Still highly recommend!

This has been on my "things to try" list for awhile. Tucked away in San Marcos and close to the 78 freeway.. it's a small nondescript breakfast joint that usually has a solid line out of the door. We have attempted to visit a couple of times in the past.. but had to depart because the wait was too long and we have little hangry children. Definitely come before 9 am on a Saturday to avoid the wait... even with pouring rain, they have "usuals" that will frequent the establishment. We arrived just before 9 am in torrential rain and there was still a solid 20 min wait... by the time we were seated the wait time being quoted was at 1 hr. It's not a big restaurant.. humble... clean... cute bar top breakfast corner and other tables that accommodate bog and small groups. Service is solid. We ordered 3 dishes to share and that ran us about 80 bucks w tip. Portions are not huge (average at best), but it was a good country breakfast that didn't disappoint. Their chef has definitely nailed the country gravy, the hollandaise sauce, and the cinnamon roll french toast. Everything was flavorful, with the perfect amount of sweetness and saltiness. We find ourselves saying yum with each bite. I just wish for the price point the portions were just a bit bigger... but from a business perspective.. demand is there to not have to increase loss on food. Coffee was fantastic too.. strong and bold. All in all... a decent breakfast joint that does not disappoint. I understand the hype and think they live up to it. Next time we come for the pie!!

I really wanted to love this place I never get to dine in. I always do take out. The wait was horrible, we waited for an hour and a half. The service was eh, not sure whether it was because it was close to closing time but had we not waited so long we wouldn't have been there so late. I ordered a bacon burrito and it was so disappointing, the bacon was over cooked and cold like it had been sitting under heat lamp for a while.

Food, service is exceptional. Portions are large, you'll never leave hungry. Minus one star: Only thing is to get a table the wait is 30-60+ minutes and parking lot is limited

Just had breakfast here and although we have been before I forgot just how good this place is. We ordered several items, the chicken fried steak with eggs over medium for me. OMG, epic would be the right word for this one. Everything cooked to perfection and the flavors were just lovely without being overpowering. My lovely wife had the vegetarian omelet and loved every bite.....well, every bite she could eat as the portions are very generous and more than she could eat in one sitting. Afternoon leftover breakfast is always a bonus. Our son had the burrito with bacon and sausage, he did eat every bite and loved every savory one of them. Tyler, our daughter, had the avocado toast and, as with the rest of us, loved it to the point of vanishing it. 10/10 recommend, if you haven't been here,it's a must.

HOLY YUM! I think we found our new favorite breakfast spot! We got there around 9:15 and didn't have to wait too long for a table for two. The inside gives me an updated diner/small town bakery vibe. Very clean and very cute. Our waiter was extremely friendly and helpful as this was our first time here. We started by ordering a cinnamon roll, and it was so good, warm and fresh! The breakfast burrito with sausage was super tasty. Salsa was fresh! The corned beef hash was very flavorful, and the meat was so tender. For the English muffin, they served us fresh jam and it was also very delicious! We would definitely be back to try more items off their menu. Thanks Mama Kats!

Such a great experience coming here. I had the cinnamon roll, purrrfect coffee and breakfast burrito which were delicious (no photos but the photos on here do it justice). The potatoes they put in the burrito are so yummy. Inside is cozy and definitely gives off a classic "grandmas kitchen" feel. Our server, whose name i didnt get was particularly great - i was there with my son who was asleep on my for the majority of the meal, and while this place gets busy and theres a wait, i never felt rushed to order, or to box up our food, or that my son was rushed when he woke up to eat. Thanks so much for the patience and hospitality :)We arrived at 830 and got seated before the wait also, but tables were quickly filling up!
