I don't give 5 star reviews very often, but this restaurant deserved every star. First off--this location is for to-go food only. No tables for eating here. The location in Bordeaux is more like their commissary to make the food for their food truck. They do sell their full menu here and you can also get some things to go from their cooler like salsas and tortillas. The staff was very friendly. The man who greeted us and took our order was most likely the owner or chef? He showed me their tortilla machine and explained how they ground the corn for their homemade tortillas. Very cool to learn.I ordered chicken tacos and my husband ordered the burrito stuffed with the beef birria. I also grabbed a pint of salsa and a package of tortillas from the cooler. The drive home drove me nuts because the food smelled sooooo good. As soon as we got home, we tore into our food. The tacos were some of the best I have ever had. That chicken--so flavorful and juicy. The tacos come with beans, so they were very filling. My husband loved his burrito and he is usually very picky about his burritos. He said that we had to go right back for more. I HIGHLY recommend Maiz de la Vida Tortilla Shop. What a gem in the North Nashville area! If you don't live close by, it's definitely worth the trip.

Big fan of this place! High level authentic cooking in a chill/unassuming environment. To me you are getting more upscale/elevated style Mexican (more Oaxacan ) like you would find in Chicago at a heralded Rick Bayless spot. So, taking this into consideration the prices are fair, IMO. I've also purchased some of their salsas and chips to take home. Menu changes often with unique short lived specials so it's good to follow them on IG or wherever.

This place is a gem! It's a small restaurant, but the staff are amazing and its hours are mainly conducive to lunch. The experience is great and the food is top notch! My friend brought me here and I fell in love. In his words, the sourcing of the food is "Bear Creek farms level". It's probably the most authentic experience I've had to traditional Mexican food. I had the 1 liter MexiCola & steak Chilaquiles. My starter was a chocolate coco type of warm beverage mixed with corn.

I've lived in New York and California and I can say this is by far the best Mexican food I've had. The menu is simple and everything is seasoned to perfection. The staff are so welcoming and food comes quickly. The beef birria and lengua tacos are to die for, and we got a special watermelon and tomato salad that was light and refreshing. Definitely worth the drive out of the city and we'll be back!! Can't say enough good things about Mail De La Vida!

Review for vegan option-My daughter had just gotten home from an extended stay in Mexico City so wanted to find an authentic place in Nashville to show us the cuisine she experienced. She looked up this restaurant and we drove over for lunch. The location is on the end of an unassuming strip mall, parking was available right in front. Inside one wall is stacked high with bags of Maiz and there's a stack of Mexican cookbooks to peruse on top of a large piece of machinery (most likely used to make the tortillas). It's a small dining area with two long picnic type tables and three small dining tables. The menu is on a board on the wall for to-go items which believe me, you're going to want to grab something to bring home with you! The menu offers cauliflower as a vegan option on many of their dishes. Unfortunately the molé Negro isn't vegan, so we couldn't try that dish but they do have a red molé we could have and it was delicious. I had cauliflower tacos, two to an order. They were quite filling and so incredibly flavorful. The tortillas were thick and had a rich deep corn flavor. The cauliflower had a flavorful red sauce on it and there was ample corn on top of the tacos. My husband had the cauliflower molé and it was a generous portion served with potatoes and a basket of tortillas. They even had hibiscus Agua Fresca. I caught my daughter more than once with her eyes closed savoring every morsel. The prices at first glance seem a bit high for a casual place, but once you taste their food you understand the quality of their ingredients. A great place for an authentic taste of Mexico.

I got a $18 Birria Ramen to go and before I go into detail, the 2 stars I've given is being extremely generous! The 6oz noodles were not Ramen noodles but bland Lo mein noodles. In a separate 16oz container there was broth and Birria meat. Now the meat is probably what they use in a taco with taco seasoning etc and prob would have been great but not the consomme was not flavorful enough to go with bland noodles that totally destroyed the dish. I can even see this being maybe like a Menudo, since all the Mexican condiments are there. But as an Asian, the term Ramen means something specific and nothing about this dish makes it a Ramen so it's more offensive calling it a Ramen. But what's more ridiculous is the price of the Jarrito. $4 for a Jarrito is just inconceivable. That's just daylight robbery. Another factor is the credit card charge which is a normal business expense. What's next? Customers being charged for their business license? Or for paper to print the receipt? Or their electricity charge? A business can choose to arbitrarily inflate prices or tack on junk fees like this restaurant has decided to do. But as a customer, I can also make a firm stand of NEVER patronizing such an establishment and instead taking my friends to the other multitude restaurants that are reasonable.

I'm so happy Maiz de la Vida opened their tortilla shop. We first starting visiting their truck at Richland Farmers Market and I was sad when they moved the truck across the river. Having their shop be on the west side is definitely nice! It's quaint but they have a few tables and you can easily get things to-go. Their food is brilliant and some of the best tacos I've ever had. Go see them at this location and at their taco truck parked outside Chopper. You won't be disappointed.

Tried Maiz last night. Taco truck located right outside a tiki bar. So you get good food and a great drink. The tortillas was amazing! Great flavor and chew to them. I thought everything had great flavor. A bit on the greasy side. The Queso Birria tacos are damn good but really greasy. Unlike most Birria place the consommé doesn't come with the tacos. You have to add it. The carne asada tacos were amazing. The elote was nice that you could have it take off the Cobb. Will be back for sure.

Went for a special multi course meal. It was amazing. My favorite was the wild red fish with mole and Tlayuda. I could eat the tlayuda weekly if it was available. I can't wait for their new restaurant to open and hopefully feature some of these dishes. I loved being introduced to some flavors and ingredients I've never had before. Mexican food is so much more than tacos and I want to explore it all. You must give his taco truck, tortilla shop and his soon to open restaurant a try. Thanks for an amazing meal.
