I love the BBQ combo, the chicken combo, and the chicken katsu plates from here. You can't go wrong with any of the selections from their menu, really. We have ordered to-go here on multiple occasions, as well as dining in. Both experiences were fantastic and the food were consistently good every time. There are more than ample portions of protein, rice, and their pasta sides. The sauces are delicious, but the food is just as good without them. I highly recommend this place! They are my go-to place for Hawaiian-style BBQ.

4.5 stars edging to 4.Nice little shop tucked into a strip center with several other Asian restaurants. The restaurant was not very large and was not busy during lunch on a Friday. BBQ & Katsu Mix, $12: a good portion of food in this mixed plate. White Rice was good, Steamed Cabbage was good. Macaroni Salad was very good. The BBQ beef had several thin strips with a good flavor, they were a little dry and lean, but not chewy. The BBQ chicken was tender and also had a great flavor. The star was the chicken Katsu. It was a very nice sized portion that was very crispy and perfectly cooked. Spam Musubi, $6: spam sushi. I wanted to try this because I am a fan of Spam in general and never had anything like this. The dish was not bad, but honestly it was just spam and rice, so it was nothing mind blowing here. You either like it or you dont. It is a good sized portion. My only real complete with it was the spam could have been a bit more crispy. The Katsu sauce and the Teriyaki sauce are top notch and really took the meal to the next level. In general I enjoyed my meal and felt it was a good value for the price. This would be a great place to hit up for lunch or take out.I would recommend and return.

"its hard pressed to find this kind of authenticity without having to traverse the pacific to go to Hawaii."MaiKa'i is definitely my go to spot for Hawaiian food around here. Visiting Hawaii in recent years, I've definitely tried some true, authentic cuisines and while Maika'i isn't exactly up to par over in the pacific, its really damn close to it. We got the H3 BBQ beef and chicken and its always a great treat to the eyes when your entire foam box is filled with food. Other reviewers say its "fatty" or "tough" but every time I get the H3, its always consistent and correctly cooked. I also get the spam masubi's which are perfect for a smaller meal, or some snack in between. There are also other well priced meals that I always want to try out, will have to come back for them. The ambiance is a simple faculty that mimics the casual in and outs of the Hawaiian culture. There are also drinks in the near cooler that are from the homeland. Not gonna lie, its hard pressed to find this kind of authenticity without having to traverse the pacific to go to Hawaii.

I recently moved from Hawai'i to Houston. While Texas bbq and Tex mex are very yummy delicacies, I'm still an island girl at heart who misses my plate lunches and most importantly...RICE! SO imagine my happy squeal when I realized that I was only minutes away from a Hawaiian food place like Maikai'i Hawaiian BBQ.Katy Asiatown seems relatively new and all the other establishments in the plaza are all indicators of a warm feeling of being home to me since I've moved. I have all sorts of Asian foods to choose from and then I have this Hawaiian joint in the mix. I drove happily to the spot and when I entered the venue, the vibes were definitely laid back and color toned to match an L&L from Hawai'i.There weren't any people when I went but my server was nice and attentive. He took my order and I waited a good while for my food. I ordered the Mixed plate of kalbi beef, grilled chicken and chicken katsu. I also got two musubis because again, it's been a while since I've had rice! When I went home to eat the food, I was shocked at how much it did taste like home. The rice was short grain and the spam was marinated and fried to perfection. The katsu was so crunchy and it paired well with the teriyaki sauce it came with. The mac salad was so flavorful and 'ono! I HAVE FOUND A PIECE OF HAWAII IN TEXAS! :) and I definitely plan on coming back again and again whenever I need to be reminded of home.

Maika'i is my favorite spot to get Hawaiian food in the area! I love that they cook made to order, keeping everything fresh. Their Chicken Katsu is always tasty and perfectly breaded and crisp. Get a combo platter with the Mac Salad, and you've got a yummy lunch with generous portions for a great price...even the kids combos are a good enough portion. The employees are always nice and the restaurant is clean. The closest thing we have here to satisfying your Hawaiian food cravings, as we are still on a Hawaiian high from our recent trip this summer. Friendly tip: if you follow them on Instagram, you can get a free order of Spam Musubi!

Coming in not knowing what it entails, the menu on the top does not really give a good explanation of what you're actually getting, so I was bug eyed confused as to what I should order. Prices went up from what I could tell based on previous photos on Yelp; so the old menu is inaccurate.SO I will tell you... since I actually forgot to take a photo of the menu. The Chicken Katsu with curry is a chicken filet with green curry all on the top. It comes in a to-go container with white rice and a macaroni salad. It does not come with any other sauce. The portion is enormous, so the price for it is fair. Out of personal preference I don't love when sauce comes directly on a deep fried something because it get soggy.. so if you plan to eat it later I would request the curry on the side. Oh! It was delicious by the way. I would definitely order the exact same thing again. The BBQ beef has the same set up, thinly sliced beef with white rice and macaroni salad, with a teriyaki flavored sauce that comes with it. It was also a very large portion and delicious.I would definitely come here again!

The beef doesn't smell like beef. It smells like discount meat from a foreign country. Threw away my plate and very sad to see so many 5 stars from ppl with low standards
