Lou's Deli... that seems to be a fairly popular business name as I know of other locations around the country, none of which are related. The one here in SD is a sandwich shop window next door to the recently opened Happy Medium. They share the same kitchen and ownership on a busy corner of 30th St in North Park. The current operating hours are limited to weekdays between 11 am and 3 pm.Ten regular sandwiches and two specials were at the core of the menu. Three salads and three sides were the other food offerings. The drinks featured beer, wine, cocktails, slushees, and some non-alcoholic beverages. I pulled up within their last half hour of business and ordered one of the two specials, a Pork Belly Sando. Crispy pork belly slices were served with pickled red onion and chimichurri on ciabatti bread. The sandwich was cut in half and wrapped in wax paper. A bag of Lou's Pickle Popcorn was provided as a complimentary snack. It wasn't the thickest sandwich by any means, but the fatty pork belly was so decadent. The red onion helped cut through the richness of the meat. I took my order to go, however you can sit on the covered sidewalk patio of Happy Medium to enjoy your food as they are not busy during the time in which Lou's Deli is in business.

When I saw that Lou's had a "Japanese Egg Salad Sando" on the menu, I was really excited to try it and so happy that a good one might be in my neighborhood. Not so. We finally tried Lou's today and it was disappointing. We had the Japanese Egg Salad Sando ($10) and the Italian Sub ($15, which is not "Chopped" anymore). It took ages for our food to come out - far too long for simple, cold sandwiches.Let's start with the Egg Sando: the egg salad was not only boring, but I got two crunchy bites of tiny egg shell. It was a bit of a watery egg salad and had too much mayo. I think I tasted a bit of mustard, but I could be wrong. It was basically chopped egg and mayo. The boiled egg was PERFECTLY cooked, but it still had bits of the rubbery membrane on it, which made a few bites unappealing. Last, the bread. It was dry, which made me wonder how old it was or if it had been sitting out for too long. The Italian Sub had slices of salami that were so thick that you couldn't bite through them. When you're finally able to knaw off a bit, then you had to chew and chew and chew. We got through a half of the first half of the sandwich. We removed all the thick cuts of meat and what was left of the second half was a very soggy hoagie roll that disintegrated. It became a mustard/mayo mess.We also tried the pickle-popcorn. It's standard popcorn and there's nothing special about the flavoring. Maybe it's better when it's fresh and warm. The potato salad was decent and the item that had the least mayo (in a good way). At $7 for a small container, it's not worth it.The two stars are because of the service. There was a nice, young woman that took our order and brought it out to us. No dings on her at all. She seemed like she was on her own, manning the register and bringing everyone their orders.Next time, we'll go to our old standby, Fatboy's Deli & Spirits instead.

I am so upset that I just spent over $20 ($17 plus tip) on this crappy sandwich. The bread is dry and crumbly and falling apart and won't stay together. The paper is torn and doesn't hold the sandwich. The taste is the most meh thing I've ever experienced. The service was good but it does not make up for the food. Disappointed is an understatement. This is a crime

The food at Lou's is bomb! Chopped cheese, Italian and the chicken parm are the ones I've had so far! Service was amazing and suuuuper friendly! The owner and his wife are incredible people and their bar nextdoor is just as rad! Great drinks, great food and great employees 5 stars all day everyday! The sandwiches are not skimpy one bit and full of flavor. Super glad this spot is open and so close to my place!

I came here today and it's maybe my 8th time. I usually get the prosciutto burrata sandwhich. Today I ordered it and it came in focaccia bread. Usually it comes in a baguette. I wish the lady I ordered with told me they changed the menu bc this focaccia bread was so dry. For a $18 sandwhich after tip+tax the bread should be good quality and tasty. This bread was dry and falling apart. This made me really sad today. The tomatoes were yellow and non ripe. And when I was waiting for my order a guy from the back stepped out to smoke and he had the worst BO. I got worried that he was making my sandwhich while he smelled so bad. I'm sorry to mention this but this was my experience.

Wife and I were excited to try this new sando place in North Park and it didn't disappoint. We split their chicken parkmsando and were very pleasantly surprised. A fun take on the classic chicken parm, their version uses a vodka sauce and a layer of olive tapenade. The chicken was fried to perfection with a crispy breading covering the juicy chicken within. The baguette was the perfect level of crunchy and chewy and all the ingredients melded together to make a freaking delicious sandwich. We are excited to come back and try more of their offerings soon. Great new lunch spot overall. Service was great as well and the pickle popcorn is a fun complimentary addition while waiting for food to come out.

I'm a big fan of Lou's Deli! We've gone twice so far and both times the sandwiches have been amazing. We've enjoyed our sandwiches with a bottle of chilled red wine on the patio of their sister restaurant Happy Medium which is adjacent to Lou's. The sandwiches are super flavorful - I tried the turkey club, the chopped cheese (like a cheeseburger sandwich), and the Italian. All have been delightful! The service has also been great, very friendly and attentive. We'd only been once before and they remembered us and gave us recommendations the second time based on what they remembered we ordered the first time! The wine was also great, not grocery store wine but smaller boutique wines, our fave. They give you a complimentary bag of popcorn with your food and they also gave our dog a pupachino which she loved! Can't wait to return, there are like 5 more sandwiches on the menu I want to try next!

Awesome deli addition to North Park. Had the french dip sammie and it was delicious! They provide pickle popcorn with all sandwiches and while not a pickle fan, I actually liked the popcorn! Glad to have another deli option to choose from in the neighborhood. Hope they expand their hour to include weekends and hopefully early evenings.

For a 16 dollar sandwich it's like 90% lettuce. They must have put one slice of meat in this thing. Really disappointing for how expensive it is. I get that inflations a thing but geez. Cannot recommend. 2 stars because the clerk was nice. But really, captured the essence of overpriced underwhelming gentrified bs
