My friend and I went to Yen Ching on a whim. It's a very unassuming place, metal tables and some sailor decor. The person at the counter took our orders, I got the seafood boil. The food came out quickly and was delicious.

The whole experience was kind of weird and I had to ask for like extra seasoning.... I mean for the price it was OK. I guess the seafood could've been a little bit better. My potatoes were kind of hard.

Ordering was easy. I did it online for pick up. The food was ready when I got there. There were patrons inside of the restaurant so eating there was probably nice too. I ordered one of the seafood boils with the house sauce at mild spice level. Since it was my first time going there I went with mild first. Mild still had some kick so now I know I could do medium next time. The crab meat was moist and flavorful, boiled egg was delicious in the sauce, sausage was delicious, red potatoes were good, corn on the cob pieces were delicious. They really soaked up the sauce. However, about two hrs later, I had bad stomach pain that did not go away until til I tried Advil, Pepto, Pepcid AC, and a lot of ginger. So, I don't know if it was food poisoning (unlikely) or the richness of the sauce or if it was the spice level of the sauce. Or a combination. Something did not sit well with me for whatever reason. So I knocked two stars off the review for that. If I had been really ill, like for sure food poisoning, I would have given it a one star (since you cannot leave 0 stars on Yelp).

Fast service. Food was good. I ordered house special fried rice. First time I've ever gotten fried rice with large shrimp, pork and chicken.

Kind of strange. The fried rice is more like orzo. It's not normal Chinese fried rice, more like some kind of Thai or Italian rice. General Tsos was tasty, not spicy at all, but at least half of it was very tough to chew. I wasn't sure if that was because it was over cooked, or just not quality meat. Not really worth the price. Maybe I caught them on a bad day.

Our favorite Chinese restaurant in the Louisville area! Their General Tso Shrimp is the best ever! Their egg rolls are delish and their wonton soup is excellent!!! They are so friendly every time we visit. The restaurant is clean and has a relaxing atmosphere. Service is first rate. They refill drinks & quickly remove dishes from the table.

Oh, how the mighty have fallen...I remember when Yen Ching was a veritable gateway to excellent good. Mauve curtains, quiet ambiance, EXCELLENT FOOD! Mauve curtains? Gone.Quiet ambiance? Gone.Excellent Food? Long gone...The Yen Ching I knew died many years ago when the original owners retired and passed it on to new owners. In its first reincarnation, it was still passable. I would never have gone out of my way to go to it, but if I were in the area, I would still visit. I haven't been back in a few years since then and it has, I'm guessing, changed hands again. It's not a change for the best. We ordered the Sesame Chicken dinner which came with chicken fried rice and a toasted pork egg roll. We started with an order of Crab Rangoon, as we usually do at most Chinese places. The Crab Rangoon arrived promptly, quickly even, and was plenty hot, but it was also dripping in deep fryer grease. The filling was basically liquid and was overly sweet (I think they put sweetened cream cheese in these things), lacking in either onion or crab. These were more like greasy, sweet cream cheese puffs. The Sesame chicken was---gross. Thick batter clung to tiny pieces of chicken and was---floating? drowning? in a sea of gelatinous, orangish-brown goo that in no way, shape or form resembled the traditional sauce that accompanies, or is supposed to accompany, Sesame dishes. The ONLY reason it could be called "Sesame chicken" was due to the smattering of raw sesame seeds littered across the top of the chicken. The chicken fried rice that accompanied the dish was also swimming in its own sea; a sea of oil from the cooking vessel. The rice was yellow and flavourless and the "vegetables" in it were either rock hard (peas that were more akin to BBs than to produce and carrots that were as mushy as mashed potatoes. The chicken in it was also lacking; sickly pale and white without any of the flavour derived from cooking in a wok. The final abomination was the egg roll. A great, over fried cylinder filled with something that was masquerading as cabbage and carrots and pork. It was just godawful. The original proprietors of Yen Ching are, if deceased, whirling dervishes in their graves and, if still alive, likely ashamed and saddened by what has become of their "legacy."Once king, Yen Ching is king no more. It's a passing I mourn.

Ordered ahead online. When I got there ten minutes after the food was supposed to be ready, there was a huge line. The guy was clearly only entering your order into the system once you told him you were there for a pickup. Literally ten minutes would go by without anything coming out of the kitchen for anyone. Total failure. Whole operation needs to go.
