We got married on June 26, 2015 and we were SO pleased with Marshall Yancey as our DJ in the wedding. He is BEST OF THE BEST! He is so easy to work with from Day 1 and he was the last thing for us to worry about in our wedding. I'm not exaggerating; he is so perfect that we did not have to direct him to do anything on the wedding day. He just did it, perfectly! He kindly met us on site and checked out the location months ahead of time and left us a binder of popular song selections to work with, FOR EVERY PART of the wedding ceremony you can think of (and he helped us to set our wedding timeline!) I requested a special Chinese song to dance with my mom. It's not even on YouTube and Marshall somehow found it!!! He was the first vendor who contacted us and reminded us of the day, and we had a conference call for 2 hours (on Fathers' Day weekend!) to finalize the music details! We planned to have an outdoor ceremony but then it rained and stormed so we had to move everything indoor. Marshall had it set up both ways professionally and directed the whole wedding smoothly. The whole city of Frankfort, KY blacked out for a few minutes RIGHT BEFORE I walked down the aisle and Marshall picked up what we'd left off and recovered everything as soon as the electricity went back on! He played so many great songs during the reception that our guests were amazed by what a fun-filled wedding we had!Marshall Yancey is a true friend, and the best DJ you can ever ask for on your special days. He offers the DJ service you can rely on; he is experienced, professional, patient, well-equipped, thorough, punctual ... Our family and friends can't thank him enough for being a big part of our wedding day, and he is and will be our only DJ for any of our events to come!

Unfortunately, the owner, Marshall Yancey, may come to this field with years of experience, however, he lacks the ability to adjust to his clients' needs. My fiance and I met with Marshal several times for 3 hours+, already a warning sign! 1. He has an inability to be succinct and to the point. His strength lies in relaying countless anecdotes that may or may not pertain to his clients.2. We came to our meeting requesting a specific era in music, and he said he needed exact songs. After we did so, he proceeded to spend over and hour, along with his close colleague, ridiculing our music choice, and requesting that we dance in front of him to prove that in fact our music is danceable. We had no choice to switch our companies at that point, as our wedding was 2 days away! Needless to say, after we gave up and just requested 7 of our 20 songs as "must plays," our wedding guests spent the night requesting almost verbatim the songs that we had originally put on our list (without prompting from us).3. If you are not a traditional couple, I highly suggest not using Yancey Entertainment. After we referred to our wedding as a wedding (since we do come from a state that recognizes gay marriage), Yancey on numerous occasions referred to it as a commitment ceremony. The kicker was when at the end of the night, we were given cds of our playlists labeled with our names and commitment ceremony on the cover.Marshall's company is best suited for straight couples, trying to entertain conservative multi-generational crowds, with a preference for top 40s hits! If you don't fit into these categories, don't bother.

We went with this company for a DJ for our wedding because we were hoping to save some money here. But the savings are not worth it. For example, we explicitly said no colored lights; they went ahead and used lots of them, and never issued a partial refund or apology to us. The pre-wedding meetings were quite long and often laced with condescension, arrogance, and no guarantee they would adhere to our song list (the vast majority of which came from their recommendations!). Yancey told us explicitly that when our wedding gets rave reviews, they'll get rave reviews; that seems to be the underlying premise driving their unmistakable focus on what they think our guests will most enjoy, instead of what the bride and groom want for ourselves and our guests. Mr. Yancey told us about a time he went out of his way to make an example out of a bride -- AT HER WEDDING on the mic -- who asked him to play songs that he didn't like and that not many guests danced to. They are the opposite of customer-centered in our experience.

I began looking for DJ's last fall to prepare for our wedding which took place May 11, 2014. I called and met with several Dj's and was surprised with the lack of personality and prices I was seeing. I was told I had to play certain hit songs in order to keep my guests happy. After several frustrating interviews I called Marshall Yancey. I thought I had called Morgan Freeman! His voice was deep and profound. I was in awe over the telephone! We discussed prices and I found him to be very reasonable. After our first meeting I was very impressed with his professionalism and attention to detail. My fiancée and I wanted a very intimate and family oriented wedding reception. The day of the wedding he put everyone at ease-he not only played the music we requested but he guided the wedding and ran everything smoothly. I was so impressed! From the toasts, cake cutting and special dances he made everything memorable and special. He even edited my first dance and father daughter dance so the dance wasn't so long! All of our guests raved about the music that was played. I was afraid some of our requests wouldn't be played due to the variety but he played the majority we requested and it all flowed beautifully. I would recommend him to all my friends. He is wonderful to work with and you are in great hands with Marshall Yancey.
