Yamato Japenese Steak House

Went here with a friend and there were only three tables. Most Japanese steakhouses and restaurants have tables and even a hibachi grill. This place looks more like a fast food restaurant with cafeteria booth seating. Take a gander at my review!The good - the beef and chicken from the kitchen were not bad. The beef was actually tender so that was surprising! The chicken was decent as well. The dynamite roll wasnt bad and tasted decent. The server was very nice. The bad - the seating is horrible as stated above. The miso soup tasted like it was reheated as well as the salad being watery as if it was washed but not shaken off of excess water. We ordered three rolls: spicy salmon, spicy tuna and dynamite roll. The tuna roll tasted absolutely awful. It tasted spoiled so it was replaced with a salmon roll. Which brings us to that. The salmon rolls were without flavor and were dry. As you can see from the photos there were inconsistencies with those two rolls as one was overly sauced and the other had crunch on top. The ginger and wasabi definitely tasted bad and old. The usage of crunch sprinkle on all rolls was OVERKILL. Overall, not a good place to go if you want an authentic, delicious Japanese cuisine set.

So good, everything I ordered was very good and the steak was so juicy and cooked very well.

The service was amazing! But sadly, the food was horrible! Fish/sushi was all VERY old as well as the oil it was cooked in. VERY disappointing! But wait the salad and miso soup was okay. It was very clean too.

I usually get the yakisoba and it is always good. Small place but usually don't have a problem with seating. Service is usually good and have never had a problem.

We've been a regular at this restaurant for several years and we love the food. However, post-pandemic they have switched to serving all of their food in plastic takeout containers. Even if you eat in the restaurant. So your salad comes in a foam burger box. Your soup comes in a plastic soup bowl. Your sushi comes in a little plastic sushi tray with a snap on top like you get at the grocery store if you buy sushi there. You get plastic silverware. When I go out to eat, I don't want "to go" quality packaging and presentation of my food. I called to express my concern about this, and the young woman that took my call was very understanding and said they've tried to get the owners to change. But that they refuse. I told her to please pass on that my family will not be back until they switch back to actual plates and bowls for in house dining. So until that happens, I can't recommend this restaurant.

Did a pick-up order here recently. Staff was friendly and the prep time given was correct. They were masked but telling patrons they could sit anywhere they wanted-no distancing practices. I complained a couple of years ago that they were not making their sushi as described in the menu. Sadly, that is still the case. I ordered the Yamato roll which is described to include masago-still no masago! I called and the first answer I got was that "the sushi chef said we don't do that anymore." Then it was followed up by the statement that they had limited ingredients due to covid-19. I didn't feel like that was an honest answer, but perhaps it was. To the owners, please update your menu or explain to patrons when something can't be made according to how you advertise.

First I have to say we were planning on eating at Shoguns. The universe said no. We picked this place on a whim and it was WAY better than we could have imagined. Service was incredible. Food came out fast and was absolutely delicious. We got chicken hibachi and some steak hibachi? I can't remember exactly what it was called? It was fantastic. Usually any sort of steak is over cooked. This was juicy and flavorful and my husband was surprised and impressed. Overall. Would absolutely eat here again.

TL;DR - Overall average: 2.4 + 0.1 (as a a buffer hoping this was just an off day for their rice and dressing) = 2.5 so rounding up to 3 to fit yelp Menu: 3 stars When I originally ordered (to-go), I was ordering based off their Facebook menu (which was identical to all the other menus I found online) but that was actually an outdated menu because there have been some price changes and they no longer have masago. I've attached a picture of the new menu for reference but it is now also outdated because of the lack of masago. Annoying because there was about a $6-$7 discrepancy but overall not a big deal. Service: 4 stars The person who took my order was friendly but didn't seem to really know the contents of the rolls I was inquiring about so that was a tad frustrating but not that big of a deal either. Sushi: 3 starsIt was just...decent. I ordered the shrimp tempura roll, the Yamato roll, and the salmon roll. - Shrimp tempura roll (2 pieces of shrimp tempura, avocado, and cucumber): components were good but it was so large (I'm talking at least 2 inches in diameter) there's no way anyone could eat it in a single bite but I could tell the shrimp tempura was fresh - my issue wasn't really even the size but that it was absolutely drenched in eel sauce, so much so that I basically just ate the insides of it and a small nibble of the wrap/rice. - Yamato roll (deep fried with cooked salmon, cream cheese, and avocado with spicy mayo and eel sauce - was supposed to have masago): had the same issue of being so saturated with sauce, it basically tasted like the sauces and cream cheese. Only ate like 3 pieces of it because it was so overwhelmingly saucy- Salmon roll (nori on the outside, rice and salmon only on the inside): At first glance looked great with decent size pieces of fish. It wasn't rolled the best because it was coming apart before I even got it home but that's not a huge deal. When I tasted it, the fish was almost dry-ish with it starting to kind of flake/fall apart (which I've never experienced with raw salmon before) and it didn't taste super fresh but it didn't have an off smell. I also found a piece of bone in one of my pieces. Only ate like 2 pieces and ended up discarded the rest because I didn't want to take a chance.Fried rice: 1 StarAs soon as I smelled it, I could tell it wasn't going to be good but I was hoping I was wrong. I hate to say it but the smell resembled dog food. The taste, I took one bite and immediately spit it out. I tried a bite with the white, yum yum sauce, and it wasn't much better. The yum yum sauce was passable but it was super watery. Ended up throwing both of them away. Ginger dressing: 1 StarI was going to make a salad at home so I got a small condiment cup of their house ginger dressing but it tasted like straight up onions and salt. It looked like there were small carrot pieces in it? But couldn't taste any ginger or other flavors. I like onion but it just wasn't pleasant. I threw it away.

I like this place. I first tried them at the beginning of the pandemic, so every order has bee for take-out. But they have been timely, well packaged, and high quality. We ordered their Yakiniku Bento Dinner, and the Teriyaki Chicken Bento Dinner. Top notch!It's a great change of pace from the typical fast food in Glasgow.

If you like high content of sugar in your food, this is the place to go. I think is expensive for what you get.
