The food was deli's and it was so comfy and delicious. But now it has been closed and it's sad. But the food and the Owener were both wonderful so sad to see this place go.

SAVE this to your list of places to try. When you think of Shelbyville, Kentucky do you think of fine dining? You can get it at the Red Lion at Science Hill!NewSpring menu just rolled out. My friend had the Jun cocktail and absolutely loved it.I had the Duck & Dumplings and it was so savory and delicious I would definitely want to get it again. However, now I want to go back and try everything on their menu!I gave it 4 stars only because it's not very accessible for people who are unsteady on their feet. The historic venue is paved with bricks that can be uneven and there are several surprising steps down.

Delicious food and drink, and utterly lovely staff! And depressingly, another newly discovered fave is closing....it's fine, I'm not crying, it's just my tummy is sad and it's making my eyes leak...Our visit here was delightful. We were staying in Shelbyville for a long weekend and were looking for things to do and places to eat or drink without having to come all the way back to Louisville. That was when I remembered that Red Lion was in downtown Shelbyville! We started by dropping in late in the evening for a cocktail. We sat at the bar and enjoyed a few very well-crafted drinks and had a nice time sitting in the foyer/hallway area, enjoying the art on display and chatting with the staff. We made the decision then to return the next day for lunch! A very good decision, let me tell you!We made reservations, but they weren't needed for the start of lunch time. But it never hurts. My guy and I share the pimento cheese fritters which were so good...I just wanted there to be MORE. I also settled on the wagyu sloppy joe for my meal because the additional toppings intrigued me and I liked the idea of mixing high and low ingredients and presentation styles. It was super tasty, and def more of a fork and spoon dish than a sandwich. It was delicious! My guy got beef stroganoff, I believe, and he devoured his meal.I do know the owners, but independent of that, every single other thing about our visits were so great. The food and drink, the friendly and outgoing staff, the atmosphere...all fantastic!I am terribly sad that I didn't get myself here sooner, that we haven't had a chance to return, and that now they are closing. Utterly devastated. But I am glad that I got to give it a try at least once!

Great little spot if you're looking for a quant evening with good food and cocktails! During Christmas everything is decorated wonderfully. Service was excellent, food was good. Recommend the Ahi tuna and brussels sprouts appetizer. Although is was a little on the expensive side, Shelbyville needs a place like this. Res Lion bar was perfect for before or after cocktails with friends!

During our recent visit, I had the Hot & Sweet Sticky Wings with the Ginger Soy Marinated Beef Tenderloin Lettuce Wraps. They are just a sample of the absolutely delicious and outstanding options in this place! as this place. The bourbon selection is out of this world and has a option that will satisfy anyone's taste. The lettuce is grown onsite, which is amazing to find. They have several vegetarian but the real deal is Black Angus Rib Eye. Also for the sushi lovers that have a wide range of eats. The decor and atmosphere is classy and very comfortable. If you are in Shelby (KY) area this is a must stop place!.

First time going to this restaurant for lunch and it was delicious!! I always appreciate history or knowledge on menu items. The bartender took some time to explain to us what inspired the drink. The broccoli soup, I haven't tasted another broccoli soup better! I got the salad to not feel guilty about dessert and it was fulfilling!I had the salted caramel cheesecake for dessert and there's no pic because I smashed it as soon as it hit the table.

Blown away. Love it.The best reason to come is the atmosphere. It's called "Science Hill" because this was a 19th century girls school, later converted to serve other purposes. It's been a restaurant for a long time, and as I understand it, the sort you'd take Grandma for brunch and eat steak and aspic. The building is historic and super-cool, but the setting is well-lit and casual. The courtyard is gorgeous. Linger in the main hall and look at all the old photos. This is the sort of vibe that strip-mall Applebees won't ever be able to dream of offering. If you're the sort of person who likes dining as an experience and to feel like a special occasion, you'll be delighted. But I also sense that it's come-for-the-building, stay-for-the-food. An evolving menu includes some classic dishes to satisfy the traditionalists, but new ownership seems to be making an effort to keeping things interesting. My latest meal here was a solidly executed fish & chips, but I really dug my cocktail, a basil gimlet. The bourbon list is a little overwhelming, in a good way.Special place. Come here, special person.

One of my absolute favorite places to eat. Perfect spot for lunch or dinner while you are on the Bourbon Trail. Beautiful building with an interesting history. Comfortable dining room whether you are in jeans and a hoodie or dressed to the nines for a special occasion. The food is top notch and you won't go wrong with anything on the menu. The staff from host to bar keep to wait staff are all personable and very attentive but not overbearing.Take time for before or after dinner drinks in the grand hall or in their pub as well.

What a great patio. I'm glad to have found this place in Shelbyville. Very nice selection of southern fare. I had the bacon jam burger with goat cheese. Pretty well executed. The bacon jam could have used a little more sweetness. Fries were done well. They have a nice selection of cocktails and a pretty good bourbon selection I will definitely be back.
