My husband and I had a nice visit during Black Friday. The shop is geared toward women, from jewelry to clothing and home decor. The shop offers several items that you don't need but will want - and is great for picking up a gift. Price points will vary so I believe you have a good chance of keeping within budget.Prickly Pear is locally owned. The team is welcoming and upbeat, and I appreciated my gift was beautifully bagged for Christmas.

Stopped by to pick up my WKU clear bag and beaded strap I'd ordered & pre-paid for! I browsed and found a cute Swig can holder on sale and matching straw set along with some other items I'll gift for Christmas! Great sale items and a nice variety of clothing, jewelry, home items and more. Shop local!

I wanted to update my review since it has been a year since it was written. Many gift stores in historic Middletown have come and gone, some only staying open a few months, but the Prickly Pear remains and is as awesome as ever! I visited again today in search of a birthday gift with a particular theme and found it within minutes! The store is chock full of nice, affordably-priced gift items for any taste. The shop is small and getting around can be tricky as the checkout counter is withing 10 feet of the door and the line to cash out winds through one of the small (but one of the best...jewelry!) display areas, making it difficult to view and appreciate the items for sale. If there was a way to relocate the checkout counter (and perhaps add a second register!) it would make browsing much nicer! The employees try to move the checkout line with as much speed as possible, but it is a slow process as sold items are apparently logged by hand prior to checkout. The employees are super friendly and are quick to offer help and suggestions. Don't forget to check out the Prickly Pear for your holiday, or special occasion gift needs! Shop local everyone!

There are a few Louisville gift shops that I like, and The Prickly Pear is high, on the list. The owner and employees are all friendly and helpful. They have lots of great items, for gifts or yourself. From Derby to baby items to fun beach ideas, they cover a lot. There are Derby items, including hats and decorations. The jewelry selection is large, with some unique items. They baby items are very cute. Their t-shirts are very soft. They even have pajamas. This store is a must, when you need a hostess gift.

It all started with a cup of coffee. Upon meeting a friend to catch up, I immediately noticed her adorable earrings and complimented her on them. "Thanks! I got them at the Prickly Pear," she told me. I had never heard of the place and asked her about it. She started to tell me and then asked, "Actually, would you want to go there now?" And off we went! At the first glimpse, I was in love. Prickly Pear is located on Main Street in Middletown in a yellow building. Immediately when we entered, one of the owners greeted my friend by name as she continued to show some merchandise to another customer in the store. I immediately went to the room with the jewelry (I've never gotten over my childhood love of shiny/sparkly/bright jewelry) and couldn't get enough. There was a huge variety of necklaces in all colors and styles, stretchy rings, and -- like the cute ones my friend was wearing -- tons of earrings. It ranged from clover lavaliers to chunky coral-like necklaces, to earrings made out of bullet casings with a crystal in the middle (trust me, they're extremely cute!) There are two other rooms in the shop with all sorts of whimsical, monogramm-able, and perfect-for-gifting merchandise. Speaking of merchandise, the merchandise presentation is easy-to-browse and attractive. The best part: this place is local and CRAZY affordable! I love supporting local businesses, particularly ones like this one with owners who care about and greet their customers by name. Some places I can't frequent with the budget I'm on, but Prickly Pear is one place I can see myself returning to for gifts for friends (and for me!). Jewelry was mostly under $20 (for necklaces) or even $10 (rings and earrings), and many of the whimsical gifts (wine gift bags) can be bought with nothing larger than the bill that Alexander Hamilton resides on. Put this place on your list for hostess gifts, home gifts, monogrammed items (bags, stationery), and cute new accessories to dress up any outfit!
