While I can't speak to the experience of renting the KCD Theatre, I can share my recent visit as a guest to a friend's event. After 6 years, my friend released her documentary and chose this venue to debut it to family, friends and donors. Sitting on the KCD school site, this venue is used for school events and local shows and plenty of parking is available. The website doesn't provide very much information but a contact name, email and number is listed for rental information. The lobby was nice - tall ceilings, large windows for natural light, restrooms and doors on both side to open into the theatre. My friend had a small cart in the lobby to provide guests with drinks - in our case, non-alcoholic. Signs ask for food and drinks to be discarded before entering the theater. There's an impressive amount of seats inside! Very professional and upscale look to the stage, seating, etc. I've been to local theatre shows and their venues don't come close to the size and quality. The seats are roomy and the rows give ample leg room. As a guest, I had no issues with sound or visual quality, although my friend noted the screen wasn't quite formatted for her film (my untrained eye still has no idea what she's talking about!).The KCD Theatre is definitely a venue to check out if you're hosting an event that requires staging and theatre seating.

I didn't want to give this venue one star, but you must on Yelp! I've been a pro musician in this city for over 40 years and have produced many successful shows and events. I produced an all female revue a couple years ago called Chix Mix.The talent was amazing, and I was begged to reproduce it in Louisville. Our first venue made a double booking, so we made many calls and on Dec 1 procured this venue. I worked with the director, Rudy Keel on getting the staging and production going. He requested charity papers from me and I requested quotes and contracts from him. After that, I called, emailed and could not get him to answer me. I brought in our charity Rep who called management at KCD to demand that he call us. We went out there, toured with him, told him exactly what we needed. He promised to send us a quote and contract that evening. It never appeared. We could not present our quote to the board for funding without any contract. At this point, he had stalled us for over three months. We were four weeks from production without contracts, quotes, tickets and web advertising which he had promised. I had 30 musicians and singers booked for this event which would have showcased some of the best local talent we have! If I had more time and energy, I would have sued them. All they care about is booking famous artists and doing their own shows. Shame on KCD for keeping this incompetent man in charge of this theatre. Shame on you for promising us a venue and then not answering phones, emails, etc. I've since heard from other local artists who were treated the same way. Warning...do not book here or patronize this venue until they replace this person and step up to their promises!
