The Fishery

Updating my review since it's been a few years. They are in their 40th year of business and still the best fish you can get in louisville. Congrats on 40 years! Can't wait to keep enjoying for years to come.

The Fishery is a place that had a lot of potential, but did not live up to it for me. I ordered the two piece fish sandwich on the bread with fries and onion rings.The food was fine. The fries and onion rings were good, and the fish sandwich was alright too. The problem for me was how dry the sandwich was. It came separately as fried fish and bread. There were condiments and sauces available, but I wasn't sure which was which, and which was good with the sandwich. I had to assemble the sandwich myself, and even with the sauce, it came out pretty dry. I think that it could've been great had it been assembled with sauce and maybe some other toppings before it came out to me, but alas.The environment was good. It was a small space, but they had ample seating indoors and outdoors. The workers were all very friendly. They helped answer a lot of my questions and helped to direct me to the sauces to put together my sandwich.Good sides and service wasn't enough to overcome my disappointment with the potential sandwich. I love fried fish and seafood and think the Fishery can be something great. But for now, it's 3 stars in my book.

I ordered crabcakes, hush puppies, and vegetable soup. The crabcakes were not good. I brought home 1 1/2 of the crab cake hoping the dog will like it. Hush puppies had very little flavor and cooked till they were dark. Vegetable soup was good a little too spicy for me, but I ate it. The iced tea was good. I should've asked upfront, but my husband when he asked them if the food is fresh, he was told it's not made fresh, it's frozen.

The Fishery is likely as old as I am and yet I've never been! My plan for lunch was completely different today but when my husband and I drove by the tents, we agreed fish and chips sounded great.The menu is big and limited all at the same time. Somewhat more expensive than I'd expected but I spotted a great combo on one of its menu boards - 1 pc fried cod with either 2 sides, or 1 side and a drink for $10. You also get your pick of bread. I opted for fries and slaw as my sides, both great. They were good enough to give me a cup of water. This was a perfect meal and I was more than full. Loved the tarter sauce too.We enjoyed a picnic table for 2 on the patio. They have several tables with umbrellas and tent shade for bigger and smaller groups. Seating is available indoors as well, fairly tight depending on the crowd. Order at the counter and listen for your number. Private lot parking, plenty of spaces in the back. Great for takeout. Kid and senior specials available. Noticed a few canned beers in their refrigerator.

This is a mom and pop kinda place, so not much to look at. But the freshly fried fish cooked to order is on point. Best catfish I have had in a while!

I've probably been to The Fishery 50 + times. In summery -Used to be good food reasonably pricedBased on my most recent visit food is okay, prices have increased substantially And now they have one of stupid credit card machines that guilt you into leaving a tip for carry out serviceProbably my last visit

Prices have increased, while portions have decreased. Not saying that the price is not fair... just saying, don't expect what you used to receive when ordering. Disappointing.

I have begged the owner for over 5 years now, to put a quality check system in place to make sure everything is included in the take out order bag. After all, if you spend that much money for a mediocre meal, the least you can ask is that you get your condiments as requested. Because it's important! Who wants a fish sandwich with no tartar sauce? Fries with no ketchup? A baked potato with no butter or sour cream? Chicken tenders with no honey mustard? Chicken livers or fried oysters with no cocktail sauce? A salad with no salad dressing? Nobody, that's who. It is the ruination of an entire expensive meal, when there are no condiments as requested. All it takes is a system of accountability in the kitchen. Designate who is responsible to add the condiments! The person who stapled it up & hands it out the window? Or someone else? Better yet, a double check. Require the staff responsible to literally check mark the item on the order ticket that gets stapled to the bag, as they place it in the bag. Or turn it over to the front counter staff to do when the order is placed. But do something! This is easily correctable, and yet, they refuse to make any effort to correct it! At these prices, this is ridiculous. The customer should not feel like they must open up their entire order inside before they leave, because they can't trust it to be right. The next time I don't receive simple inexpensive condiments for the enjoyment of my expensive meal, I want a refund for my ENTIRE meal, because it ruins my entire expensive meal. The time after that, will be my last time, ever.

This used to be a great place for quick seafood. The quality has gone downhill. My fish was thin and had no flavor. My meal was $21 and I was very disappointed. If you want good seafood don't go here.
