We visited Tekka for lunch during the week. First impression - this restaurant is gorgeous. Upscale and modern, a perfect date night spot. The bar looks very inviting as well. We were there for Sushi, but the restaurant also offers Hibachi tables. Our service was excellent but things were pretty slow while we were there for lunch. We were served complimentary miso soup while waiting for our sushi. These are the rolls we ordered. Spicy Tuna - goodSpicy Crab- very goodWhite Tuna Sashimi - not goodSmoked Salmon Roll - OKMan on Fire Roll - goodDaily Special - New York Roll - very goodThe Tuna sashimi was disappointing. White tuna should have a smooth, buttery texture and this was quite grainy. I didn't do any DNA testing but this probably was not what we thought we were ordering. We appreciated the very thin layer of rice on the rolls. There is so much sushi in their rolls. Well beyond anything I've experienced at a sushi restaurant. I'm talking chunks of sushi. While this might be a plus for most people, for me it was off putting. But that's just my personal preference. My husband said he enjoyed it. We felt roll pricing was high, especially for lunch. Even the lowest tier rolls that are normally between $4 and $6 were priced between $8 and $10. There was a special for Bento boxes, but no other lunch options. Our lunch total for tea, soda, 3 regular sushi rolls, one 3 piece order of sashimi, 1 special roll, and the Daily Special Roll was just shy of $90.

I have been in the mood for sushi and usually never disappoints. This time was completely different. I placed a pick up order for a derby roll. I have ordered this several times and the experience was good, but this time was different. The amount of sauce was excessive. The taste just wasn't the same. Not what was happening this night, but quality has to be maintained for my business.

Meh. I'm not a sushi snob, but I've had enough good sushi to know I'm hardly ever a fan of sushi prepared at a combo sushi hibachi restaurant. So to be fair, my bad. My favorite sushi in Lexington is only a few miles from here but probably 30-40 minutes worth of traffic. Again, my bad. Go with what you know. The food. Hmm. Calamari appetizer. Decent for what I imagine is frozen and prepared upon ordering. Glad I had it because the sushi didn't make the cut for me. I know that is all personal preference, but when you list 30-40 rolls to choose from and everyone of them has cream cheese... pass. The structural integrity of the roll did not stand up to chop sticks. Just not my cup of tea.I was so confused at Tekka's decor. Not bad, just weird. Modern, nice bar. Beautiful light fixtures, tile and stonework on the bar. And then these weird fake window wooden frames hanging on the wall, kind of country like. I didn't take a picture because I would have had to climb on top of the hibachi grill. Some things aren't worth it. Regardless of weird, the restaurant was extremely clean. 10/10 on cleanliness.Service was top notch. If you know me, food can be OK and service can make up for it. It's why I gave an overall 3 stars or it would have been a 2. They hit it out of the park with service.Would I go back? Probably not. Maybe for hibachi. Definitely not for sushi.

This is all my 16 year old son talks about! We love this place. We come here often to get the hibachi The service is good and the show is fun no matter how many times you have seen it.We also get a large container of their ginger dressing to go. I think that it costs around $13 but man is it worth it!

After an unsatisfying experience at another (highly rated) sushi place, I needed more, so I popped into Tekka for one more bite. The bartender was attentive and fetched my hot sake quickly. It was indeed hot, and the "small" size was generous enough. Topping off the evening with a California roll was just the ticket. The place can get a little noisy. There are teppan yaki tables where the chefs' knives click and clack..and because it's family friendly, there can be a squawking kid or two, but all in all, I was impressed enough that I'll probably be back.

Hostess told us that there would be a 20 minute wait when we came in at 7 pm on a Thursday. There were six table areas completely empty and the waiters and waitresses were standing around doing nothing. A group that had a reservation and their group was not all there and the man even told the hostess that however they sat them anyways. Even though every time we have came we were told we had to wait for our whole party to be there. They said the reason for the wait was do to a chef shortage but the could have sat us and had the wait staff get the drinks, soup, salad, and other items. But no we had to wait more than 30 minute.

The food we got was amazing, fast, and effective service, with a nice ambiance. My only problem was the menu was incredibly confusing, however, it was great we got the amazing soups and the California roll which was prepared well, and the firecracker appetizer which was original and so good, we also got the carb Rangoon roll which was my favorite this we got it was amazing, all in all would recommend it.

My daughter and I had a excellent lunch of chicken, fried rice paired with veggies. Absolutely the best hibachi I've had. Saki was spot on and the other family with us great company. I highly recommend lunch/dinner here. Come out to Tekka and ask to be seated at the grill. Don't forget to tip your chef as they put on a delightful show as they prepare your meal. Our server was also hands down.... Fantastic. Will go back on our next trip to Lexington
