Taste of Belgium - Rookwood

Taste of Belgium has a couple locations, but I can only speak for this one as I was only in town for a weekend for a wedding. First - parking is plenty as it's located in a shopping plaza. You might have to walk a bit, but certainly not hard to find a spot. Second - even on a Saturday at 11am, it didn't take us (a party of 5) more than 10 minutes to get seated. The place is lively, but not overcrowded, and the staff was both friendly and attentive. Onto the most important part: the food! You can't go to a place with Belgium in the name and not order Belgian waffles. The waffles are pretty small in size, they aren't American-sized for sure. We had the Strawberries and Cream waffle (with additional Nutella), Goetta Hash, Breakfast Plate, Omelette, and Chicken and Waffle. All was delicious! Things to point out: the sweet waffle was about palm-sized, and 70% whip-cream with a light drizzle of whip cream and thin layer of strawberries, haha. I was fine with it because I love cream, but your mileage may vary. For the chicken and waffle, this is their most popular dish and I understand why. I do recommend having the sauces on the side so you can portion as you like - I found the hot sauce much more overpowering than the syrup. Overall, a great brunch spot!

Deviated from the old faithful classic waffle and chicken and tried their take on the Nashville hot chicken. It was so disappointing, no flavor and the waffle was soggy from a pickle. On if the people at our table ordered a burger that was practically bleeding still they had to send it back. Service started off good but then our server disappeared. The place was a ghost town so it wasn't like he was slammed. I had to chase him down to get our check, and it still took ten minutes for him to bring it out. Quite simply the most disappointing $80 I have spent on food in a long time.

Parking can be sometimes hard to find here. They do have a garage in the back, but you have to walk all the way around to the front.We sat outside on their patio which is nice and roomy. A little breezy. The food is really good, but it's a little pricey . See pictures for examples.

So we used to absolutely love taste of Belgium, but I don't know what's happened. We ordered a burger (was medium rare instead of medium well), kids chicken plates (all three orders the chicken was overcooked and nearly burned), the Nashville hot chicken waffle (terrible - lacking flavor, chicken wasn't crispy, waffle was soggy from the pickles) and the classic waffle chicken (which the only good dish). Service started out great but then our server disappeared on us / forgot to bring the desserts (all mediocre). Women's restroom was filthy. There were cobwebs off the saxophone above where we were eating (couple feet above our heads). Highly unlikely we'll be going back.

Been to a couple of their other locations which unfortunately I think some of them are closing. But here is a review of this location. It's very cute inside and very well thought out! Great ambience in that way. Jordan was our server and he was very helpful and making sure that we were taking care of. Overall I always just enjoy their burgers. They just make great burgers! My friend had the breakfast plate which he said was pretty good. He feels like he got enough food for what he wanted.Parking can be a little bit tough to find as there's only so much right out in front of the restaurant but there is a parking garage also behind that I'm not quite sure how to get to. But I know it's there. There's a lot of food options to choose from in this area but this is definitely a good one and I hope they stay open for a while. It sounds like the chain is having some problems these days. But I'm always happy with the food!

We met a friend from out-of-town at Taste of Belgium for their Unlimited Mussels & Frites and 50% off Wine deal on Thursday. We each ordered the special and were happy to see a giant bowl of mussels and a big cone of fries come out. We ended up each ordering four servings of mussels, but you could tell each serving became smaller with fewer and fewer mussels. My friends tried ordering more frites but were told that the special didn't come with unlimited frites - this was pretty disappointing considering the special says "unlimited mussels & frites". I talked to another friend who had the same special a few months ago and said they got unlimited frites no problem, hmmm.... Over the course of the meal, I got to try the Mariniere (light clear broth), Pesto, and Chorizo - Pesto was my favorite because I was craving a cream sauce.While the serving sizes got smaller and we didn't get unlimited frites, it was still a pretty good deal. The special is $23 and just ordering mussels off the menu is $19 - definitely came out positive! Highly recommend heading to Taste of Belgium for this special if you love mussels!

The espresso martini was cool. Otherwise, nothing really impressed breakfast wise, unfortunately. The rest of the menu didn't excite enough to return for lunch/dinner. Pro: Several locations... if you just need a good enough restaurant to grab a decent meal with no wait.

We visited Taste of Belgium for the all-you-can-eat mussels and frites, excited for a hearty meal. The first serving of mussels came in a large bowl, offering a generous portion. The service was solid, and our waitress was attentive. However, after that first bowl, the portions started shrinking, served on shallow plates instead of bowls. By the fourth round, the servings were noticeably smaller, and we were then informed they had run out of mussels.Despite the menu's claim of unlimited mussels and frites, it turned out that only the mussels were "unlimited," and even that had its limits. When we asked for more frites, we were told they weren't included in the "unlimited" offer, which felt misleading.On a positive note, the wine by the bottle is half price, and the sauces for the mussels were quite tasty. The Provençale sauce was garlicky with a nice kick, the Chorizo sauce was hearty and packed with chorizo pieces, and the Pesto Cream sauce was rich and creamy with a hint of herbs.Overall, while the meal started strong, the experience was dampened by the dwindling portions and unclear menu descriptions.

Tried this place again after a disappointing meal last year and was glad I did! The food was excellent and the server was super helpful when we asked about different options. Highly recommend the chicken and waffles. We went at a slow time (3PM - 4PM) which I also recommend. The server has more time for you and it's a better experience. Multiple employees stopped by the table and we were able to speak with them. Definitely will return in the future!

We were so happy Taste of Belgium was open today that we wolfed down brunch as soon as we arrived. The veggie omelet for me and classic chicken and waffles for Steve: so satisfying washed down with the mimosa flight. Great spot to spend a damp Fourth of July. Open until 4. Busy, but turning pretty quickly. YUM
