The best fish and fries in the city. Be sure to go for lunch because they sell out. The little bake sales inside provide yummy desserts too.

Fish was super crispy but pretty dry inside. This place had been recommend Omani time so I'll for sure be giving it another spot for the hours they operate on they were super busy so that tells me a lot. It looks like a concession stand inside a school so I actually love that vibe for a little secret fish spot.

Saturdays at Suburban Fish Fry are the best of hometown Louisville community. Complete old school lines, please and thank you. Neighbors, kin and just good people gathering to tell stories, smile and order delicious fresh fish. By the heavy pound on both the fish and the fries. Four slices of rye bread, side order of onions. Handed up in piping warm in a paper sack. Folks it don't get no better than this place on an Elite 8 game night. Just hope your lucky enough to grab the pineapple upside down cake and turtle brownies. Full meal and desert for $28 I will be back

This was a surprise for me. With all of these fancy and well-known restaurants we're blessed to have in Louisville, you think you've had the best of everything. I can now add Suburban Fish Fry as my favorite fried fish in (or around) Louisville. The people in love told me they preferred this over Mike Linnig's, so it was game on. I only got fried fish, with no sides, but I've heard positive feedback about their fries and onions as well. The fish is a plentiful portion, with easily enough to split with someone else. I split mine with my dad, who hits up all the fish places during Lent (so this lends credibility to his opinion). We were both highly impressed with this. The batter had a pleasant crunch on the outside and provided just the right amount of flavor, so it avoided dominating the fish. The fish itself was fresh, with a flaky texture and cooked perfectly. I would absolutely recommend this to fried fish lovers! They're located very close to Churchill Downs- go check them out.

I was glad to try this popular fish fry. It's true that they draw a crowd - a constant flow incoming and outgoing customers. The senior citizens are the majority and they fill every available table.I made the mistake of getting in the line specifically for those ordering fish by the pound. But, no biggie, the man in charge directed me to the one other line that's for individual sized orders. I ordered the dinner that came with three pieces of fish, fries, 2 slices of white or wheat bread, and a side of cole slaw. Drinks are separate. The total cost was $8 and some change - super cheap. CASH ONLY.The fries were slammin. They were extra crispy / crunchy and tasted very good without being greasy. The cole slaw was OK. Nothing exciting or unique about it, but edible. The fish was a bit disappointing for my expectation. Each piece was a decent size and not greasy - good points. My disappointment was that it seems the fillets were sitting around for a while. I did notice that my ticket # was called before I even made it to my seat (I ate there). So clearly there was no cooking the fish to order. As I took my bites I did notice that the meat didn't look as if freshly cooked - it looked dry and boring.I prefer my fish to be freshly cooked so that it's piping hot, the batter is nice and crunchy, and the meat easily detaches and falls into my taste buds without being stiff and not brightly colored.Generally, I'm all about giving second chances because I realize one-offs and isolated incidents do exist. So I "might" give Suburban Fish Fry another try one day.Dessert was available at a designated table. It was cash only for a really low cost. I've never heard of this organization, Job's Daughters International (JDI - Job is pronounced as Job in the Bible), but they were selling the home baked goods for a 2019 trip.

This is the best fish you can get other than a good old fashion fish fry at home. They only have fish, fries coleslaw and bread. Buy it by the pound or sandwich. Rainbow girls are usually there selling desserts. Remember this place is cash only!!!Almost forgot you must get the onions to eat with your fish. They are only open on Saturdays March through November. This place you must try. Nothing fancy just great fish.

I have been going there since I was 3 years old. Almost 70 years ago!!! Of course it was located at 3rd and Central then. Right next door to the Cozy Theater. My mother and grandmother and me would walk to the fish fry and then go next door and watch a movie! Wonderful memories!

If you have a hankering for fried fish on a Saturday afternoon, this is the place to come. The hand dipped batter is deep fried just right and the fish is always flakey. As I remember from my previous visits, it is cash only and it is closed in December, January, and February.
