If you want a more authentic German food and beer experience, you'll have to fly to Germany. This small restaurant is literally a Bavarian dream come true. We had potato soup, a pretzel, jager schnitzel, and a sausage plate. Everything was absolutely amazing. The service was 5 star and the old brick interior takes you back in time.

Decided to try this place for lunch on our way to Nashville, Brown County. When I called, I asked if there was a possibility to get perogies or potato pancakes at lunch...nope, but since Louisville has lost ALL German options. We stopped anyway. Wow...the service and atmosphere are great, but the food was amazing. We ordered the pretzel and beer cheese, potato soup, a brisket and sauerkraut sandwich (Reuben), and spatzle with Parmesan. Every bite was mouth-watering delicious!! The pretzel was slightly overdone, but the cheese was awesome. You could taste the beer and it had a good consistency. The potato soup was more like delicious mashed potatoes. There were red potatoes, some skins, sour cream, cheddar cheese, and chives. What made it even more tasty was a secret flavor. It was like a savory dessert in my mouth. The spatzle was like the most delicious mac and cheese you've ever tasted, and then the sandwich...yum! The brisket was cooked 18-19 hours (per the server), but it was juicy, but had some crispy edges. The sauerkraut was tangy and the rye bread was yummy. Overall... fantastic, and we'll be back.

My wife's family are German immigrants. The food here is what I had become familiar with her family's cooking. Food was great. Service was excellent. Our server came back to our table several times to ensure all was well. It was. We stop at Seymour regularly on our trips back to Chicago. Schwatzer's will be added to our schedule.

I hate to post this because I want to keep it a secret but I can't. It's just so good. The history as the previous Chatterbox in downtown Seymour is fascinating. The food is obviously made from scratch and finish your plate worthy! I had the knack worst box lunch. The bun was no regular bun- toasted and hearty that stayed together with sauerkraut. The coleslaw was creamy and a perfect pie with the salty chips and pickle. My husband got the ham and cheese- no thin sliced deli meat here. It was a thick slice of ham and caramelized onion. The service was top notch. Erik showed the lay of the land so when we bring our friends we can share. Next time we'd like to come for dinner and try some of the many libations! The bathrooms were very clean- the mark of a well run establishment.

What a lucky find!!! We loved our lunch here...from bratwurst to schnitzel to beer cheese soup in a bread bowl! Wonderful service with a friendly, super efficient, kind server. Ambiance is full of exposed brick, German theme decor, great rural photography. Lunch menu and dinner menu are quite different so make at least two visits to try each one. Large tables accommodate groups. Free parking all around in this quaint small Indiana downtown. Great beer list - Hefeweizen on tap! Tried a great berry hard cider type beverage too - lovely tart zing. [Fun fact: Schwätzer is German for Chatterbox which was the Bar & Grill previously housed at same location. ]
