Not bad. Mac n cheese has an interesting blend of cheese that is different and flavorful. Definitely some parm in there. Nice crispy tater tots. The pork is tender and wonderfully smoked. The prices are very reasonable as this is a non-profit establishment. Three things held back a 5th star. The condiments ketchup and bbq sauce are served from the refrigerator and I prefer them warm or at least room temperature. On a personal note none of the sauces appealed to me the basic sauce is a little to lively for me and I hate mayonnaise so white sauce is out. I don't do spicy either. Lastly during the week they close at 2 pm. Which is when I get up. Very clean and fun atmosphere. I fully recommend this place they just aren't the Kansas City sauce cooked on the meat style I like.

This is a hard one to rate. The food to me was just ok. I had the pulled pork, which was tender, but lacked real flavor. The sauce wasn't my favorite, but that's ok. I feel sauces aren't needed if the 'que is good enough, which this was good enough but if the sauce was better, I would've went on and poured on my pork. My sides were the macaroni that was recommended by staff and it was, for me, below average. My other side was potato salad, I thought it was the best part of my meal. The atmosphere was unique.. a lot more laid back than most restaurants and definitely family friendly. I'll give them another shot at some point and hope that I can upgrade to four stars!

Located on a mostly residential street in an old church facility, Porkland is easy to miss if you aren't looking for it. The banner out front, commanding "Eat Here" and announcing "Open Now" is the only outward indication of a restaurant inside, and even that could almost be mistaken for a church festival banner, if you didn't take the time to read it.Inside however, Porkland is clearly a restaurant. There are plenty of tables and quirky decor, ranging from the expected (pigs, a mural map of Portland) to the unexpected (model Twin Spires, a giant Rubik's cube, the front end of a Volkswagen bug). You order at a counter straight back from the door. Choices include pulled pork or chicken sandwiches, "Churched Up Tater Tots" with all the fixins, deep fried corn on the cob (seriously) . . . there's more but just know that none of it is health food. The items are affordably priced: $5 or $6 for the main items and $2 for sides. For to-go orders, there are church pews to the left near the pick-up counter. We ate in, so we received a number and took a seat.Matt had the pulled pork and I decided on "Pops" Porkland Round Steak. To be clear, this isn't steak. It's a super thick slab of bologna fried, then topped with nacho cheese, two kinds of sauce, and Grippo's, all between two surprisingly sturdy slices of bread. We ordered mac n cheese and green beans to share. I really liked mine, which I thought I would have to fork-and-knife, but we received forks and napkins only, so I picked it up and it actually held together really well. The green beans were good and the mac n cheese was okay--light on mac, heavy on sauce.I do have one complaint--the drink selection is limited to canned sodas and bottle waters and Gatorade. I would love to see some iced tea on the menu. I think a sodium-laden sandwich like the one I had calls for some sweet tea to wash it down. Obviously it's not a deal-breaker though.Porkland is a really nice neighborhood spot. Best of all, Porkland is part of the non-profit Love City Inc, whose programs include homework help for middle-schoolers and a community gym for teens.

Wow, wow... Amazing!!! And I'm not only talking about delicious food!!! It's the whole concept, the energy, the people, the community, the story but Most of all THE LOVE... This is a community based restaurant which charges on donations. Even if you do not have any money you can work it off by helping out around the restaurant and/or the community! This is far bigger than something to eat!!! It's a MOVEMENT!!.. Porkland Bar-B-Que is in conjunction with Love City which is a community based movement who's main goal is to get Neighbors to Love the Neighbors... That simple Yet that powerful!!I'm most impressed by the soul guiding this movement, Shawn Arvin, This guys spirit, soul and humble mind is instantly addictive! All he preaches is LOVE!!! ... Doesn't want credit for anything but showing Love!!I know this was supposed to be a restaurant review, so with that said .. SIMPLY DELICIOUS HOME COOKING!! I had the Rib Tips, Green Beans and Baked Beans!!!! Yes, to all of the above.. my favorite was the Baked Beans!!!! Mmmmmmmmmm.. We was in a group so we all had different things and not one person complained! Everything was delicious from Pulled Pork, Pulled Chicken, Fish etc...... Great food and helping out the community all in one! Please be sure to ask about the story of this movement and I guarantee you'll want to be a part of the movement!!

Porkland BBQ is literally a hidden gem: it is hidden in a church in a Portland neighborhood and the food is awesome! My friends and I decided to come over for lunch because we heard about Porkland by word of mouth and I am so glad that we did. The process of ordering and receiving our food took no longer than ten minutes. It was insanely fast! As busy as they are though, I am sure that they have most food premade. I ordered a pulled chicken sandwich with white bbq sauce (which was divine), coleslaw, and potato salad. I also bought some chocolate chip cookies on the way out. Everything was awesome. The pulled chicken was tender and the white bbq sauce was creamy and vingegary- I know it doesn't sound like a great combination, but it just worked. My only complaint about the coleslaw was that it was a bit too watery. However, the flavor was good. The potato salad was also good but it had a bit too much mayo/mustard for my taste. The cookies were awesome. No complaints there! I'd love to come back to Porkland and try some of their other sides. I am also curious about their tater tots. I'll be back!

In Louisville, you can throw a rock from anywhere in the city and hit four BBQ joints. Everyone has their own spin on it to keep it fresh. Porklands stands out from the crowd for two simple reasons:- The food is ~*damn good*~- They are all about their neighborhoodI had a fish sandwich and it wasn't greasy and gross, it was light, fluffy, and full of flavor. The fries have nice heft and a great seasoning. And that white barbecue sauce... hell yeah. The prices are very very good. You could feed a 4 member family here for like $30.It's also a really cool community space. It's big and roomy and great for meeting friends and hanging out. They employ people from the local community which provides some much needed cash flow to this area and I know they do special arrangements for hungry folks who've fallen on hard times. So many hipster districts are adding faux-authentic restaurants these days, but Porkland is a legit part of the neighborhood which adds to the character. My one critique? No unsweetened tea as far as I could tell. If they add a big ol' tureen of tea (maybe two since I know you people love your sweet tea out here in KY), this is a five star joint easily. I know, I know... y'all don't ever come west of 9th... well, just do it one time and try the white BBQ sauce. I think you'll be back more often than you might expect!

My department at work held our quarterly mtg at Love City and we had Porkland BBQ for lunch. Porkland BBQ is part of Love City and their mission is clear! Their food is delicious and made with love! I got the pulled pork sandwich, baked beans and a canned Coke. The pulled pork was piled high and served with red BBQ sauce, pickles and onions. It had a great smoked flavor and the baked beans were awesome! The menu offered other items like fried fish and the Porkland round steak. Our group ordered a variety of items from the menu and there was not one complaint. Everyone liked everything! The restaurant is bright, clean and quirky. Lots of art!! There is a rocket hanging from the ceiling, vdub beetle you can take pics in, twin spires and even a larger than life rubix cube. You gotta check this place out!For our meeting space we chose the one below the basketball courts and it was a perfect creative work space. Art is everywhere at Love City! Our mtg space was very cool, it looked like a neighborhood! Along the back wall there are houses with actual doors that lead into other rooms. Another wall features a really cool tree art piece. The A/V provided was what we needed! We had; Wi-fi, large tv screen and sound bar. The space was perfect for our group of 15. I highly recommend Porkland BBQ and if you need a mtg space for your team Love City is a great option.

Decent place in the heart of the Portland neighborhood. Don't go here if your on a diet though! Everything I had was covered in grease but tasted good. The service was very nice but the atmosphere felt like a high school lunch room. Outside of that it was a good experience. The BBQ sauce was nothing to write home about but the fried fish is fantastic.
